    Wouldn't do the trade. Lee isn't much of an upgrade and may end up not being an upgrade at all. You have good depth at OF but not at SP. Pedrioa to Roberts is an upgrade but it's not enough of one to give up a great SP for what would be a 3rd-to-back up OF. You should trade Pena for an upgrade at 2B.

Highly likely it will never ever happen because it mostly ignores the academics part of the equation but is interesting to think of the possibilities.

    What if a loss here would mean more wins in the future because we would have a better pitcher going every fifth day? What if a great outing by Silva means he can be a good fifth starter and the team is thus better off for the whole season with Marshall being one of the view proven reliable arms in the pen? That is the best case scenario and should be the one you root for. One great outing by Silva will not change what he should be expected to do for the rest of the season no more than one terrible one would. Sean Marshall would be more valuable in the rotation than in the bullpen, especially considering the way he has been used. And, I dont need da Bum telling me what I should root for. Then don't post saying that you root for our SP to suck. A fan rooting against his team's own players is contradicting himself.

    Not enough info. What's you OF like, what kind of SP's do you have other than CC, what's the leagues scoring like ... etc.

    Well obviously it is not going to be his last, but why couldnt I be hoping for a 16-14 type of win (with all 14 coming in the first 2 innings from Silva)? Because that would mean one of our SP's had a horrible outing. He's a Cub you should be rooting for him to do well and not for him to totally suck and by some miracle the Cubs win anyways. You should be rooting for him to have actually figured something out and be able to be a decent 5th starter. What if I realize that no matter what happens in this start that Sean Marshall is the better bet to do well in the future? You should still root for our SP's to have a good outing because you know the object is to win and that is very hard to do when you SP gives up a bunch of runs. Also, yes Marshall is almost definitely the better SP but he has a lot more value in the bullpen as of now because he likely wouldn't be that much of a better SP than Silva or Gorz meanwhile Gorz and Silva would be complete question marks as RP's.

    I much rather have Gorz as our 5th starter than Silva when Lilly comes back. I would rather have who ever is doing best be the 5th starter. People rooting for a Cubs player to fail is moronic. Silva is a Cub deal with it.

    Wishing this is Silva's last start for us is dumb. That would mean he absolutely and utterly blew and we thus lose. I personally hope Silva starts the whole year because that means he is doing well (otherwise Gorz or Marshall would start at some point).

    I think we will shortly be at that tipping point where we must decide to go real young and see if all our top prospects pan out or stick with aging vets. The next year or two should be interesting. A team with the Cubs resources never needs to go all in with youth like that. Obviously which is why some may be traded away. We have Vitters, Castro, Jay Jackson, Cashner and Brett Jackson who will all within two years be at the normal age and experience level that they get their shot. Do we keep Zambrano or get rid of him (or one of the others) in the next year or so to make room for Cashner/Jackson. Do we let ARam go to make room for Vitters? Does Castro come up this season? When does Brett Jackson come to the majors? All those decisions will have to be made within the next year or two except perhaps Brett Jackson.

    He is ridiculously strong. Not the best at getting contact but with the relatively easy left field fence in Wrigley he should have a good amount of HR's. I remember DLee in 2005 when asked what the difference was said something about having the realization that if he just turned on it a bit more he could loft the ball down the line for a HR rather than trying to power through it and have a warning track hit to left-center.
