  1. He won't be a prospect for long but as I see it I get a possible major roster player before anyone else can actually draft one. If you're wondering I'm talking about Samardzija.
  2. I see Sori was taken as the last keeper was wondering if that would happen.
  3. You're right. All the people I know in Miami who avoid games because of the weather must by lying. Glad that you could prove that. keyword is fans As I said before, I'm not going to cross the street to watch the Cubs play if I know I'm going to be drenched in sweat by the third inning. If there were only a handful of games, then I would probably just suck it up because I'd know my opportunities to see my team live in person would be few, but if it were just 1 out of 81 games, then I'd probably just sit at home in my recliner, watch it on TV, and drink a beer that didn't cost me seven dollars. I don't know when you go to Cubs games but baseball is played in the summer and you're normally sweating before you get there. The difference is the Cubs and most teams have tens of thousands of fans who are willing to sweat the whole game in 90+ degree weather. The Marlins have maybe a hundred. The people in Miami are not willing to sit in extreme heat to watch a baseball game. A city with people who are willing should have that team.
  4. Derek Holland SP Texas. I'm a bit worried about the park he plays in but he's a lefty that gets strikeouts so he can be a starter this year or next.

  6. What kills attendance is that they don't have fans willing to go to the stadium. I don't care if the stadium is bad if you have a fanbase they will attend the games still. It might take a few thousand away every game but not 20 thousand or more. They don't have a fanbase like all the other teams because Miami never embraced them and visa versa. Its not the weather either. Weather doesn't keep fans away and that has been proven over and over again in all sports. Loria is not a great owner by any means and surely doesn't deserve to have a team but the city just doesn't care for the Marlins and never will. They have won two world series and the fans still never showed up. The Rays had one good season and midway through the fans started showing up. The only thing to do is relocate them to a city that will support the team. Las Vegas is the sexy location that could be a big success or huge flop, while Indy is the safe location that will sell well but is close to so many teams already. Either location is better than Miami.
  7. Two days and I've yet to make a minor pick. Can we pick it up some?
  8. Interesting. Fill a position that scarce. I would be a bit worried about his injuries and that Matt Holliday is no longer around. Well that's kinda what I was going for. I'm not too worried about his injuries or Matt Holliday not hitting behind him. I think he'll be fine. Plus defense plays a minor role in this league so it doesn't hurt to have arguably the best defensive SS in the game there. That and if I'm interpreting the rules correctly, he'll be entering in his 3rd year this year (didn't reach 130AB till 2007) which means he's an exempt keeper for this one year so if he bounces back it'd be a nice cushion to have for next year just in case. That plus there aren't any other guys with that exempt status who are really gonna light the world on fire. Tulo seemed like the right pick because of those factors, IMO What are you talking about Jeter is the best defensive SS in the game. At least ESPN says so.

  10. I'm going to go with a no on that one.
  11. Nice pick. I know of one owner who will hate you b/c of his love of the BoSox. Just thought how I have Manny too hahaha
  12. Well I guess I will be switching my favorite team to the Red Sox because I take Jon Lester. That gives me ... 1. Albert Pujols 2. Dustin Pedrioa 3. Manny Ramirez 4. Daisuke Matsuzaka 5. Jon Lester 3 red sox!?! Oh well if they are good they are good. Plus all three will be exempt this offseason.
  13. It carried over from the MLB draft, so since the Bombers had the last pick in the MLB draft, he therefore has the first pick in the minor league draft. Kind of makes sense. Since he got the last pick in the major league draft and the order was done at random (I'm assuming), it makes sense that he gets the first pick of the minor league draft I just never saw that said thats why I was confused. So Aroids takes one more player and then we skip all the way down to the end with Bombers to start the first minor pick? No, the first 5 rounds are the MLB draft: So Nuke would take the last pick of the MLB draft and the first of the minor league draft. Duh. I was thinking 4 round of each forgot there are five major rounds.
  14. Oh and I take Daisuke Matsuzaka and do a jig while handing in the draft card. Thought about him as early as round two but gambled on him making it back to me in the final round. Still has two years exception giving me two Red Sox players with that distinction.

  16. Well I was hoping to make my last major pick tonight but not looking good. BTW if we continue the snake draft for minor leaguers why didn't I have the second pick?
  17. hate you, was hoping t get him considering he plays for the A's he's likely to be something
  18. Well, I can rest assured that I won't make the biggest draft mistake this year. If he starts 24 or so times this year he will finish in the top 10 for pitchers in points. You supporting Harden's pick here is interesting, considering you already questioned Liriano (called him a risk) and Halladay (because he's not exempt). There are at least 3 pitchers rated higher than Harden with exempt status after this season, and a couple of them are rated nearly 30 spots ahead of Harden. Not saying Harden was a terrible pick, but he might have been available in the 2nd round of the league draft, much less the 5th of the Expansion Draft. As a Cubs fan, I hope he's a Top 10 pitcher in the league. As a fantasy owner, He wouldn't be in my 5 man rotation right now, especially considering his shoulder questions already in the spring. Harden when healthy has a lower ERA, more strikeouts, and on a much better team meaning more likely to get wins. Wins are not a high scoring category in this league. And Harden has not been healthy in a while. He's already a candidate for shoulder surgery in 2009. I was comparing him and Liriano because you mentioned them both. Harden was fro one taken a round later, and I didn't mention injuries because both are injured a lot.

  20. So Bouldin is up (although technically not on the clock.
  21. Thinking a little more on it ... it would be worth it just to here Schilling talk back to Ozzie when Ozzie does his yearly tradition of bashing the Cubs.

  23. I would absolutely love to have Schilling but I do find a bit funny/scary that we would be getting another injury prone starter.
  24. This is the biggest reason why the tournament should be in Chicago. Its not like Indianapolis isn't dominated by Big Ten alums. My experience (and I go to both cities a lot) is Indy is more in tune with the Big Ten. Yes Chicago has the most total fans but they also have a whole lot of people who could care less about the Big Ten because Chicago is so big. Indianapolis in my experience has less non-Big Ten fans. You can go to Chicago, walk around downtown and not see Big Ten gear anywhere. You go to Indianapolis on any day you will see people in IU, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan and Illinois gear. As far as the prestige someone brought up and how if the Big Ten wants to look good they should hold it in Chicago because its more prestigious. As a whole Chicago is obviously way above Indianapolis but there is a reason Indy hosts so many big sporting events (especially in basketball). Anyone who knows college basketball towns wouldn't laugh at the Big Ten for playing in Indy. The people who do laugh because they don't know college basketball and how Indy is rated ... well I could care less what they think. The only opinions that matter to me is from fans and most fans know Indy isn't second rate when it comes to hosting sporting events.
  25. He said when he returned from the minors... when he did that he went... 11GS 6W 1L 65.2IP 2.74ERA 60K He gave up only 7 more ER and had 6 more BB in those 65 innings than he did in the 10 he had to start the season before being sent to the minors I stand corrected. I forgot about Liriano's first stint.
