  1. Okay I'm far from a professional writer but I've always been under the impression a writer adds things in parenthesis to provide further context to attributed quotes when people say things like someones first or last name only. What the horsefeathers is going on in this paragraph? What he probably said: “It’s one thing to say that, but it’s another thing to just hit as many home runs as Theo hit. It’s the Addison Russell trade... Incredible. It’s getting Arrieta and Stropy for Clevenger and Whatshisface. Bam... Fortunate enough to get Kris Bryant after the Stros took Appel." That is a fair assessment, and I lol'd at Whatshisface
  2. Even better if they can get Quintana without giving up Glasnow. But considering the Nats gave Giolito up for Eaton I'd suspect Glasnow is a must for them. If they do a straight up Glasnow AND Meadows swap for Quintana, itd give the White Sox 4 of the Top 10 mid season top 100 prospects after having only one on the list originally (Carson Fulmer at like #74 or something). And they still have yet to move Frazier, Robertson, or Abreu.

  4. The Brian Matusz game was victory #1 of the 11 game winning streak, just FYI.
  5. Not sure they would for just one year of Abreu who, at this point, is pretty unremarkable. Only a 1.6 fWAR, preceded by a 3.0 fWAR, preceded by his 5 win rookie season. He is not trending in the right direction, and moving from a hitters haven to a pitchers park isn't gonna help his value. Bell's offensive profile based on his admittedly SSS seems to be more valuable than Abreu in a sabermetrically advanced era. Bell's BB% and K% were fantastic, while Abreu's weren't as good. You can probably dream more confidently on Bell's 2017 being closer to Abreu's 2015 than Abreu's 2017 being close to his 2015. I just don't see much value in Abreu at this point unless he's a DH.
  6. Would imagine Glasnow and/or Meadows is a requirement in that deal. The White Sox are gonna be horsefeathering stacked when they're done moving all their guys.
  7. Did you have the right to go to those games? The Cubs would disagree. is that why you went to those 9 games, to make sure the tickets still worked I'm now picturing a guy begrudgingly taking 9 sets of tickets to Wrigley throughout the year and having them scanned at the gate, entering the turn style, and then walking right back out to go home Grandpa Simpson style.
  8. Scratch Derek Holland off the list. He signed with the White Sox. One year $6 million.
  9. If there's Cubs personnel looking at this forum and this thread specifically... Hi, my name is Logan and I'm currently 47,751st in line and I was just wondering if you'd be so kind as to jump me ahead of everyone else? This year I was responsible for an 11 game winning streak. Me and me alone, no one else. Imagine what the Cubs could do when I'm in attendance! KTHXBYE

  11. Congrats to the Dodgers on treading water.
  12. Paging We Got The Whole 9. Paging... It's your time to shine, bud.
  13. One of the things I'll always remember Boyz II Men for had nothing to do with them. In the mid 90's on my local pop radio station a person called in and requested a Pearl Jam song because his friend had just died and the song he requested was his favorite song and he wanted to play it in his honor and the DJ said "What? That's a terrible song to play for someone who just died! Here, we're gonna play Boyz II Men instead, here's End of the Road!" Even as a 12-year-old I was like "That was a real dick move, man"
  14. I'm just happy to be here. A month later.
  15. At 42 Uehara put up the 2nd best K/9 of his career while also putting up the worst BB/9 of his career. His 2.1 BB/9, however, would've ranked 2nd on the Cubs, behind Hector Rondon's 1.4 and tied with Kyle Hendricks' 2.1. The next lowest BB/9 in the pen belongs to Travis Wood at 3.5. So yeah... EDIT: His 12.1 K/9 would've been 3rd on the entire pitching staff of player with 25 or more innings pitched, behind Chapman and Edwards. Of pitchers with 40 or more innings, he would've been 1st
  16. I shall henceforth refer to him as Yukon.
  17. I know cleats aren't exactly built for style, but I wonder if they would sell to a casual market if they just replaced the spikes with a cross trainer tread of some type? That way, for example, you could buy those Kris Bryant Adidas shoes for an everyday environment.
  18. The press conference will be on MLB Network at the bottom of the hour, apparently. EDIT: Nevermind, it's happening now. Joint press conference
  19. I know we wouldn't have gotten it with Desmond in the fold, but even if Desmond didn't sign would we still not have gotten the 11th pick?
  20. wtf? There's literally no news about Fowler anywhere, where did he get that information? Also I wish he did sign with the Rockies so we would've gotten the 11th pick.
  21. I think the Rockies line of thinking is A) Acquire Desmond, give up 11th pick B) Trade Blackmon or CarGo and get real value to win now and replace Desmond at their position. Both Blackmon and CarGo are garbage defenders while Desmond proved to handle the OF effectively enough this season (and much better than either Blackmon or CarGo). Getting talent back to fill holes in the pitching staff for them > losing the 11th pick, I suspect C) Still make a play for Trumbo for 1B If they can get Trumbo, and take advantage of Blackmon's big year to get the pitching they need, their lineup will look something like: LaMahieu Desmond Arenado Trumbo Story Blackmon/CarGo Dahl Murphy/Wolters That's a sneaky good offense. Desmonds AAV is $14 million, it's not going to be difficult for him to fulfill his end of his contract unless he just falls off a cliff. He's rehabbing a torn ACL still. He probably won't be 100% for 2017 when he comes back a couple months into the season, so 2018 will be his "make good" year.
  22. Well the Nats apparently only wanted Sale and are now no longer interested in acquiring a SP. Turning focus to closer, center field, and possibly a SS. Their 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th SP on their depth chart are Joe Ross, A.J. Cole, Reynaldo Lopez, and Lucas Giolito. That's nice depth to deal from. Any chance the Cubs try and deal for one of them while dangling Almora or Baez or both?
  23. Pablo Sandoval is getting svelte
