  1. You clearly haven't experienced his official website NPC linked to earlier
  2. He'll probably amount to nothing in Oakland. Seriously, who was the last Oakland hitting prospect who actually fulfilled any sort of hype they had attached to them? Chavez? Giambi? Oakland is kryptonite for hitting prospects.
  3. I wonder if this will light a fire under Hendry's ass like the Sabathia trade did last year
  4. Who's going to give up good young pitching for Adam Dunn? THis offseason MLB GMs practically blackballed him because he can't play much defense. To put things in perspective, would you be ok with the Cubs trading Marshall, J. Jackson and someone else (Cashner) for Dunn? Probably not. An offensive starved team like the Giants. Pablo Sandoval's OPS+ is 140. The next highest on that team is Aaron Rowand at 102... Dunn's currently is sitting at 150. He would instantly be the most productive hitter on that team, and a 1-2 of Sandoval and Dunn looks nice. The Giants have the pitching to be able to make it to the postseason, they don't have the offense. Dunn should look like gold to them, and they probably would be able to part with just one top pitcher for Dunn (i.e. Alderson), not several mid-level types. The Giants have Bumgarner in the wings with him. Sure a 1-4 of Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, and Alderson looks sick in the future, but a 1-3 without Alderson can do them just fine, and the Nats need good young pitching, and the Giants can afford to part with some (or one). Dunn isn't worth a whole crop of pitchers, but I do believe he's worth one very good one (and maybe a couple of toss-ins), especially when he'll still be under control for another year, albeit at $12 million, but that's still below the average salary of players who are OPS'ing around the same numbers for what he is right now. The Giants need a power bat. The Nats need young pitching. It's a no-brainer.
  5. From 7/8: They're stupid. Let's not trade a guy who a) won't be here after next year and b) won't help us win a championship because our pitching is terrible even though he is their best trading chip and would likely bring in at least one top pitching prospect, maybe even an extra mid level prospect as well. Stupid, stupid, stupid. They can still trade him next year. They might also draw more than 10,000 fans a game the rest of the season this way. This is true, but his trade value has never been higher than it is now. His AVG isn't atrocious and his production numbers are fantastic, combined with the fact that he'll be under a teams control for an extra year, he should be traded now. If they trade him at the deadline next year, they get a couple mid level guys for him instead of a top tier guy that they can get now. I want to punch the Nationals in the face

  7. They should be targeting a team in dire need of an OF who is desperate enough to give up one of their top pitching prospects. They need young pitching, if they go after more hitters they're morons. Personally, I'd try and see if the Giants would part with Tim Alderson. He's still a couple years away and the Giants are potential contenders with the need for serious offense.
  8. I stepped in a batting cage not to long ago that was tossing something like 88-92 mph heaters and I hit them with no problem... that being said, if a real person were to be throwing them it'd be much more difficult since the machine throws them in the exact same spot almost every time whereas there's always a chance for wildness against a person.
  9. Walk years boosts are a myth. Milton Bradley disagrees. But yeah I agree, they're a myth. "Teach me, Milton!" - Rich Harden Count me in on the "Meh" for Freddy Sanchez boat. I'm not completely opposed to getting him, I just don't think he's what the team needs to be put over the top. Personally, I'd like to see them go after Figgins. Sure his defense at 2B would be worse than Sanchez, but he's drawn 30 more walks than Sanchez this year and that .380+ OBP would look mighty nice near the top of our lineup. Not to mention he could spell Aramis and Milton in a pinch if he had to. That being said,m I don't think Figgins is going to put us over the top either, but I think he'd be more beneficial to the team than Freddy Sanchez would. I couldn't really disagree more about Figgins I don't blame you. He's a like him or hate him type of player. Me personally, I like him and the skillset he brings, which is a .300 hitting, high OBP utility guy who can play virtually any position on any given day
  10. Screw the Reds, I'm concerned about this Rickie Weeks guy and his 30-30 potential

  12. Dave Bush, since he insists on showing the batter what he's going to throw in his delivery
  13. Littlefield doesn't work for the Pirates anymore... he works for us
  14. Hoffpauir has no business in the lineup every day with his .286 OBP. Unless regular AB's will make him play like he did last year, I don't see a reason to play him every day. Fox, yes. Hoffpauir, no. We need Fox in there daily.
  15. Sanchez is grossly overrated. He's not bad, I know he's been one of the better offensive 2B in the majors this year, but people treat him like he's a God amongst men. He's not. He hits for solid average, plays solid D, and has fluky power, IMO. It's not bad, but it's not going to put us over the top. He's not Chase Utley. With the way Fox is playing right now, if we trade him, we trade him in a package for something better than Freddy Sanchez, or we keep him and ride his bat while we still can. He's can do more for this lineup this year than Sanchez ever will, IMO That plus he's not left handed, so that right there means he'll never play for us (sadly, I'm only half joking). Sorry for going off topic
  16. Yeah, I don't understund this. The Red Sox don't need a 1B. Lowell is back and performing well and Youkilis is Youkilis. Only reason is like you said, to play him while Lowell sits. Seems like a bit much for such a minor role. Laroche isn't the greatest but he's decent enough to be a starter on several clubs. Unless they got him for dirt cheap I don't see the point, couldn't they have gotten someone a lot cheaper or promoted someone from within for such a menial task? Lars Anderson maybe?
  17. No way they trade him, he's cheap, he's solid, he's under their control for the next few years at an affordable price, he's in his prime, and he's also one of the faces of that franchise now. No way they trade him when they don't have to, let alone to a division rival
  18. Here's another link on ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/news/story?id=4344929
  19. Aramis is my favorite player, but next year, depending on certain circumstances (i.e. we're not in it, we didn't trade away Vitters, etc), I'd like to see the Cubs shop Ramirez around. He can opt out after 2010 and maybe if they can get a verbal agreement that he won't opt out his trade value could skyrocket. It'd open up space for Vitters in the future (or who knows, maybe at that time depending on how he develops by then) and he'd bring in some serious prospects and/or players in return. Depending on whether or not he's willing to waive his no-trade clause, which he might because he gets an extra $1 mil if traded, Ramirez could be our biggest bargaining chip next season at the trade deadline. However if we're still in it obviously we'd need to keep him as he'd likely be a big attribute to that. That's just my opinion though. If we're out of it I don't see the harm in shopping Rammy next trade deadline
  20. That's disgusting. He looks so miserable. Poor guy. He's like a lost dog trying to find his way back home but he got captured by the pound
  21. Just read in a comment on MLBTR that he's allowed 7 of 10 inherited base runners to score, making his ERA look deceptive. That was probably a contributing factor
  22. Too rich for my blood... I might know someone who would do that though. I'm gonna pass the info along to him
  23. Tyler Walker was just DFA'd. 11IP 1.64ERA 1.00WHIP. 100%WTF? Must've been something about his personal demeanor. Don't know why they'd DFA a guy with those numbers so far this year... maybe it was a Luis Vizcaino type situation?
