  1. Sounds like it will lead to more accurate fielding statistics in the coming years. Savvy retirement decision, Jeter.
  2. For some reason I thought recovery time for position players who get TJS was like 4-6 months, not 8 months. It's unfortunate, but for some reason I find myself rooting against all the guys that the scouting world said was better than Javier Baez this past season, so this news makes me feel oddly smug.
  3. Kris Bryant Home Run Video http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/41332114/v31404685/chclaa-bryant-goes-deep-in-the-seventh-for-two-runs
  4. Should've traded him for a roided up catcher who has no defensive skills while they had the chance.
  5. http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/02/27/rumor-teams-checking-in-on-darwin-barney/
  6. And so it begins... http://i.imgur.com/EYPULUH.gif
  7. Looking at about $23-$25 million a year. Good deal for the Angels. It's crazy that if he keeps doing what he's doing, he'll be vastly underpaid for his performance at that rate.
  8. Josh Reddick makes maybe one of the best catches you'll see all year on the first day of spring training, and also steals a 2nd home run later in the game. Both robbing Michael Morse. http://nesn.com/2014/02/josh-reddick-makes-unbelievable-catch-to-rob-michael-morse-of-home-run-video/
  9. You would think, but it seems like players in the past who were notorious for being fat or heavy and had a lot of power, who then went on to lose weight and get in better shape before a season, would often have lower power numbers. But then again I'm only really recalling Prince Fielder when he took on that vegetarian diet after his 2007 breakout year, lost weight, and then lost over 100 points to his SLG and OPS, so I really don't have a lot of frame of reference. There haven't been a lot of "fat" power hitters out there. Off the top of my head I can only think of David Ortiz, Mo Vaughn, Cecil Fielder... and I'm drawing a blank now. Do you have any examples of people who have actually lost significant weight and seen a noticeable power decrease? Only one I know off the top of my head was the Fielder situation, mostly because it became a topic of conversation throughout the season when he stopped hitting home runs with the frequency he had hit them the year before (when he had 50). There were a lot of "Should Prince fielder start eating meat again?" articles, IIRC, which is kind of hilarious.
  10. The food options in the minors are pretty brutal. Really odd that teams don't spend more on nutrition at those levels. The clubhouse for the Mobile Bay Bears was constantly stocked with peanut butter and jelly, soda, and cheetos.
  11. If they can stick a three truth's guy like Adam Dunn in LF who has cataclysmic bad defense and they still get a positive WAR out of him, I'd be morbidly curious to see what we can get out of Vogelbach considering he's actually a good, well rounded, and balanced hitter who will hit for average and not strike out 220 times a year.

  13. Good
  14. The joys of being ambidextrous. I'm the same way. Write left, throw/bat right. I can swing a racket with either hand. My left is more dominant, but my right has more power. This is all useless information.
  15. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10512206/mlb-bans-home-collisions-1-exception I don't like it. If Buster Posey's leg didn't collapse, this isn't an issue.
  16. I'm upset about that, too. Boys of Spring did a whole "Prospecting" post today and Vogelbach isn't in there either http://boysofspring.com/prospecting-cubs-park/ But this is:
  17. Rizzo, Baez, Olt, Bryant, Soler... we could have 5 guys in the future lineup capable of hitting 30HR a season. Some of them 40+HR. 4 of them will still likely be under the age of 25. Swoon.
  18. I'll be honest, the only reason I'm in favor for the NL adopting the DH at the moment is Vogelbach. If he's traded I'll probably reverse my stance.
  19. Super happy I traded for him in my keeper league a couple years ago. He holds a special place on my bench.
  20. I thought this was a poorly typed sentence about journalists until I dug up the story.
  21. I know the Cubs won't land either of them, but I would prefer either over Darwin Barney.
  22. Perhaps it's been discussed, but out of curiosity if Brett Jackson were still eligible, where would you guys have him in your rankings?
  23. That was with Tanaka at #4. So they are really one higher. I hate it when they include a big time Japanese player on their prospect lists, despite them being within the technical limitations to do so
