  1. Good man. Test cricket and first class all the way for me. 8-) One day games are sometimes ok to watch, I guess, but when the side batting 2nd gets off to a slow start it can be boring. I'm not in to this 20/20 fad at all.
  2. =D> =D> =D> Well done. Hope it works.
  3. This makes no sense. Unless it's for off the field stuff.
  4. The first move I'd like to see is trading away Miles (and I don't really care what they get in return)
  5. I agree - the basic point is indeed that it is very hard to compare both sports. To get back to your initial analogy: the fielding of a side made up of a starting rotation (minus the one that is pitching) complemented by first basemen would be entertaining (especially at SS and CF). In traditional test cricket, defense simply isn't that important. A couple of more runs doesn't matter much when an inning totals between 300 and 500. That may evolve in a 20/20 format though.
  6. A good MLB middle infielder would probably show you his middle finger if you'd ask him to field at silly point 8-) And "hit a little" does injustice to the ability of people like Imran Khan and Wilfred Rhodes, imho
  7. The great allrounders of cricket history are laughing at this post.
  8. You can count on me to be one of the other 99. 8-)
  9. I think he's just about ideal as an emergency catcher, but not good enough to be the backup (every 4 to 5 games, day game after night game, half of a doubleheader version). if Hill needs a rest, I think nobody would even notice if Robinson took his place (skills-wise)
  10. Nice. :) Has anyone heard about Chris Weimer? He hasn't played in a few weeks, but I haven't seen any transactions on him. No. The problem is Mesa's roster has so much space that there's no point in DLs. That could also explain Kemp's prolonged absence.
  11. Sven-Goran Eriksson to manage Notts County, the oldest league club side in the world (est. 1862) They also haven't won anything since 1894 (the FA cup) - and Cub fans complain about a drought.
  12. So do I - I think those guys were intrinsically better than the ones that play today. But my guess is a good - or as wild - as yours on this matter.
  13. Two, apparently. And there's also the possibility of moving Chad Fox to the 60-day DL.
  14. Cubs.com says it's a minor league contract. That makes it a good move, imho: no risk - possible upside later this year. It's not like the Cubs have many other lefty options (realistically) available to call up.
  15. How about Cap Anson? (although technically he didn't play for a team called "Cubs" )
  16. Dovydas Neverauskas is a 16yr old RHP who plays for Sporto Vilkai in Lithuania. The Pirates don't scout there (I think), but spotted him during MLB tryouts in Prague, where about 40 players from all over Europe participated (six of them from Lithuania) 23 yr old Czech LHP Jan Rehacek was signed by the Twins after those same tryouts, but he pitched in the Dutch league in 2008, a league that is scouted by MLB organizations.
  17. You being in the middle of your holidays = you sticking around for this game?
  18. A valid argument (even throwing in to games against the likes of PAOK and AEK, which shouldn't be underestimated) The way I see it, there's two ways to the top: get yourself noticed playing internationally for either your country or your team from a second tier league in European Cup competition (SPL, Eredivisie, Greece, Turkey, even throw in Portugal and Belgium for good measure) or sign young with a top team and bide your team in their youth or reserve team. Actually playing on national on European TV seems the better of those options to me, so I wouldn't worry too much about a young player going to Greece for a year.
  19. A lot, probably. Greece has about 4 teams in the top-100 ranking, but it's a big drop after Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. Olympiakos are currently ranked 34th, just below Espanyol (Ajax are 31st, just for reference) I'm sure I rate the MLS higher than you. Outside of the top teams that qualify for Europe, I don't see much difference between the SPL, the Eredivisie and the Greek Super League. So the debate seems to be: how do top MLS teams rate against Celtic and Rangers, Ajax and PSV or Olympiakos and Panathinaikos? I don't know enough about MLS to answer that question, but I'm open to your arguments.
  20. A lot, probably. Greece has about 4 teams in the top-100 ranking, but it's a big drop after Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. Olympiakos are currently ranked 34th, just below Espanyol (Ajax are 31st, just for reference)
  21. I'm guessing it was probably Z that made the offer in the first place, but the Cubs should have had the good sense to decline.
  22. He got a 3 year deal too. 8-)
