  1. Excellent game by New Zealand. Those guys deserve a couple of beers tonight.
  2. Not really; they just argue amongst each other to lose games.
  3. Front page news even for Le Monde ETA: Domenech didn't resign, some French FA official (head of the delegation) did.
  4. And the diving gets rewarded.
  5. Italy looking to get a Kiwi sent off for elbow use. We're in for an acting performance by the Azzurri At least the NZ goal forces them to play forward.
  6. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100619&content_id=11351940&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Sounds like he's coachable; that is a good sign, imho.
  7. This shouldn't really come as a surprise. FIFA tries to "diversify" the referees by origins in the WC, but given the stakes and the number of people watching, they should just use the semi-professional refereeing teams that are used for officiating high-pressure international games in Europe and South-America. They too will get wrong calls occasionally, but it won't turn in to a PR disaster like this one.
  8. It is the best group, but not in the way the Sun had in mind. 8-)
  9. FWIW Belgian TV has no clue why the third US goal was disallowed either. Looks like you guys got screwed.
  10. Dunno. I'd say you need a win against Algeria to go through. Having seen Algeria today, the US has it's work cut out.
  11. Until a couple of years ago, British referees didn't use cards, just a notebook - that's what that turn of phrase "booked" is referring to.
  12. If Algeria plays against the US like they did against England in the first half, you guys have a serious problem.
  13. The French press is fun to read this morning. 8-) France-Soir is pulling the old "disgrace to their uni's" card.
  14. Some non-WC news: http://www.sporza.be/polopoly_fs/1.804192!image/1234004220.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape470/1234004220.jpg
  15. Wait ... what? Isn't soccer supposed to provide the violent hooligans and religion the peaceful mediators?
  16. http://www.stubru.be/sites/default/files/vuvuzelaanti100616.jpg ETA: to be fair, there's also a Facebook group that wants to ban soccer from vuvuzela concerts.
  17. Champion's League is better, imho
  18. Of course the US has to win. The question is will Slovenia hunker down and try to grind out a tie. I don't believe they can afford to do that. Slovenia can afford to do as they please - they have no expectations of advancing whatsoever, contrary to the US...
  19. I'm confused by the reasoning of you guys - if anything, the Slovenia game is one the USA has to play to win. The draw against England gave you a shot at winning the group. Or do you really relish the thought of a second round tie against Germany? I'm expecting a bunker-and-counter game from Slovenia, and a (tentative to begin with) play to win one from the USA. This, if anything, will be the true test for your best eleven.
  20. Someone just earned himself a nice extra ration.
  21. Nicely worked second goal.
  22. And the Inter player gets the goal 8-)
  23. they have their entire team back to play defense. obviously this is the right move given the massive gap in talent, but it's just not interesting to watch. Care to comment on the way Inter handled Barça at Nou Camp? I bet the Northkorean coach was paying attention and taking notes.
  24. To me, North Korea is providing the interesting side of this game - they play better than I expected (regardless of Brazil's lethargic showing).
  25. Is someone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to watch? I sympathize with your plight.
