  1. Home run race was fun, but to me, 1998 is always going to be defined by Kerry Wood and his back to back strikeout games. He made AZ look as bad as he did the Astros in his following start.
  2. You know its not your night when Joblert Cabrera cleans the bases. Isnt he the guy who's brother in law shot him in the ass?
  3. With the Cubs history and all the heartbreak over the years, I will be cautiously optimistic until the moment the last out is recorded and the Cubs are WS Champions.
  4. Same could be said for Albert Pujols.
  5. If the same thing happened with Harden people here would be taking about how Lou abused Harden. Were you rooting on Dusty as he "rode his horses" with big leads in '03? Learn anything from that? Why as a Cubs fan would I care whether or not Sabathia gets a no hitter or not? If Sabathia had given up 6 runs and the Brewers had won 7-6 it would mean exactly the same to me as if he threw a no hitter and they won 7-0. I don't think the Cubs fans around here care so much wether ir not CC pitched a no- hitter, nor do I think there is any jealousy on our parts. We are just sick and tired of Yost and his constant whining and griping all season long. The man has no integrity and no sense of preofessionalism. You know--In '98, Riggleman was a man about it. Orie botched that easy grounder to 3rd and the 20 K Wood game ended as a one-hitter. I didnt Riggs complaining about the official scorer that Wood got screwed and how it should have been a no hitter.
  6. Talking Heads--- Once In A Lifetime.
  7. I can't disagree with Van Halen (except Jump!) "Summertime sit back, need something to keep you cool?"...... :-)) http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d98/rejano/David_Lee_Roth04.jpg
  8. The Angels and perhaps Tampa are going to be the Cubs worst WS nightmare. They seem like they would be a lot harder to beat than the White Sox.
  9. Sometimes stealing third is just a matter of taking advantage of an ideal opportunity when it presents itself. Big lead at second and the pitcher isn't paying attention to the runner, maybe a fake bunt on pitch 1 has the third baseman running in on pitch 2 and opening up the bag for the runner. Maybe you have a catcher with an injury behind the plate that slows down his footwork or his throw.
  10. Cubs fans can be absolutely brutal. I've been to games in the last 10 years where if you had your eyes closed and listened you'd think you were in Philly. You've never been to Philly then. Cubs fans can be bad, Philly fans openly boo their best players while they are playing well. I go to 1-2 games every year in Philly, and several in Chicago. It's no comparison. You know you've entered a new chapter of Cubs fans when a group of them jump the fence, charge the players lot and try to beat up Latroy Hawkins.

  12. My guess is that he is finished either way. I don't get Ricciardi or the Jays at all. How many times has a Blue Jays team of his been 3/4 complete(in terms of bieng good enough to contend), and JP either sits on his hands and does nothing at the deadline, or does nothing in the offseason.
  13. Ring, ring.... BC:Hey Carl. All set for the weekend? CP:Not really Cash, my-- BC:Arg! What is it this time Carl? I want my 40 million dollars back. CP:It's my (fill in the injury here) man, I can't stand the pain. BC:Doc says you're fine, teammates say your fine, agent says your fine. It's your psyche that's bad. CP:Yeah thats it Cash. I sprained my psyche. I cant pitch this weekend.
  14. I wonder whats going on with BA that he has become so ineffective. Maybe he has lost all will to pitch since he is now with the Reds and is playing for Baker.
  15. Harden is awesome. That was textbook pitching right there. What a way to set up a hitter.
  16. 9 K's 2 hits for Harden. The man is hitting his spots all over the zone tonight. Setting guys up, putting them away with high heat. He's making these Reds hitters look really bad.
  17. You know you suck when Paul Bako is hitting better than you are.... I'm especially bitter because I ate off the VineLine in my youth. I remember Corey Patterson walking twice on Opening Day in 2002. I stomped around and said his jersey should read "G-O-D". I asked how cheap a flight to Cooperstown would be if I bought it 15 years in advance... yes, it was $1 pitcher night. It's a long shot, but never say never. CP is still young enough to get his head out of his arse and eventually unDustify himself. I was this close to turning my Kerry Wood rookie card into a beer coaster at the start of last season.

  19. Had Greg gotten enough run support from some bad Cubs teams those early years (or in 2005 and 2006 for that matter) he probably would have been able to get 400 wins.
  20. I am in total concurrence with this. He was one of my all-time hated Cardinal players. But as a Cub, I love what he's done for this team. Bizarro world indeed. Same here. I have probably been the longest and most stubborn holdout on the site. Not anymore. He deserves team MVP consideration.
  21. Somehow he managed to strike out Chipper Jones last night. Chip must be feeling sorry for him and purposely watched that pitch to make ol' Howry feel better about himself.
  22. My hero! :) Let me add to the list, swinging and striking out on the high pitch. Arg!
