  1. I'm trying to follow here, but you are just not making any sense at all. Is this one of those Cleverbot things? he's calling you an ass
  2. A lot of smoke this morning...or is it everyone rehashing a false rumor and spinning it as their own reporting? it's probably a bunch of people trying to ape one made up report. people make fun of the heyman and rosenthal types, but at least they wait until there's a reason to say something since their reputations matter.
  3. These threads are so fun to re-read. for you
  4. i can't believe anyone thinks a veteran player would give much of a [expletive] about the cubs' farm system ranking. these guys aren't idiots. a veteran player like lester is more likely to come to a team that's on the upswing with a lot of positive buzz (cubs right now) than go to the cubs of 3-4 years ago, who were just as lousy but were almost completely bereft of young talent. sure, but that wasn't the original point. the guy was saying the cubs are a more attractive destination than the giants, who win the world series every other year.

  6. That's some major Heyman style nothing right there.
  7. Why are you so gullible? That's revealing nothing. Give me a name or it's a mindless rumor. No one names sources. What is wrong with you?
  8. McCarthy is going to be one of the best signings this offseason depending on price. hahaha. thanks jon heyman.
  9. So based on this, Lester's arm might die in 4 years. I'm fine with that.
  10. Because no one actually wants Jon Lester for 6 years, that's just the cost of doing business. In a fantasy world where you can name your duration, most people would probably pick 4 years. This isn't a fantasy world, so most people were hoping for 5 but understanding of 6. When you go to 7 you're now facing a pretty significant chance that Lester is nearly useless for half his contract. Useless? That's not a very strong likelihood. The phrase was "nearly useless," and it's not like it's unprecedented. Look at CJ Wilson. Wilson didn't have nearly the same sustained level of success as Lester has had.
  11. is this like a scheduled tweet you accidentally posted here?
  12. i saw a report saying the prospect cost would be more than heyward, but i'm not really sure why that would be. The Cubs are on his (short) no-trade list ah, i see that now. along with cleveland, toronto and milwaukee. interesting list.

  14. Less likely that the FIL passing on information we already know, or less likely than the FIL yanking his buddy's chain, or less likely than any number of possibilities I haven't thought of. Of course Lester's father-in-law is interested in what contract he'll sign, and of course he would like to know. It simply doesn't seem likely to me that the guy has an real inside info that he would then pass along. The negotiations are taking place without the FILs direct knowledge or input, and despite being related to the Lesters, it's not clearly obvious to me that he's any closer to the process than a well-connected reporter would be. What did the text say? Lester could be a Cub? Say whaaaaaaa- It seems pretty likely to me that the FIL would be aware of which way the family is leaning. He doesn't need up-to-the-minute status reports on negotiations to have a pretty decent idea which city his daughter thinks she will be living for the next half decade. yea, it does seem weird that people think the guy wouldn't be heavily interested in where his child and grandchildren are moving. every family is different, but it's not crazy at all to think he's getting regular updates.
  15. get more info, screenshot it, become an internet legend
  16. If you thought it was so great you could at least give him the benefit of a link back to the piece.
  17. Because he's better than two of those guys and would cost less $$$ than the other two.
  18. I don't think the Cubs can get Stanton at this point without giving up Russell or Bryant. Too many questions about Baez after his time in the majors.
  19. the catcher aging curve isn't as bad as people think: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/catcher-aging-is-a-curve-not-a-cliff/ So you also have a bad understanding of survivor bias. This is addressed in the comments by the author.
