  1. I know what you're doing here, but a Rose/Johnson/Deng/Boozer/Noah lineup would still be awfully damn good.
  2. I never understand sentiments like this at all. If someone is convinced they'll never win another WS, then why be a fan of them? What's the point? Then it just becomes being a "fan" of misery, and I don't get that at all. I suspect a lot of folks went out to Wrigley Field and cheered for the Cubs long before they really even cared if the team won or lost. In this case then, they aren't fans. Sure they are. If you say you're a fan, you basically are. There isn't an entrance exam or a requirement to provide quantifiable proof. The idea of you being a "real fan" might console you personally, but no one else really cares. If the Cubs win the World Series, there will be lots of people celebrating alongside you that you may not deem "real" fans, but again, no one else will care how legit your fandom is or how much you've previously suffered or invested to this point.
  3. It'd have to be the first option. A team with a payroll as high as the Cubs should never be in an extended rebuilding mode. A competent front office could make this team competitive by 2011 (if they were able to start making moves today) and championship-caliber by 2012.
  4. I don't know if it means anything short term, but I can at least convince myself that this could be indicative of how RIcketts wants to run the organization. No one is going to listen to Kaplan, so he won't make a difference, but when Hendry is fired after this season, maybe this shows Ricketts will get a stats-oriented GM.
  5. They can't sign both. they can, but they won't. Agreed. It's not that they can't, they won't. Agreed. They could sign both but they won't do it. Should, but shorn't.
  6. He may also just want one more shot at a championship at his age, which could mean he'd settle for less money. Shooting is a skill that ages pretty well, and he'd be a huge boost if he could give the Bulls 25-30 decent minutes a night. If this LeBron thing actually happens, I'd think Allen would certainly think about coming to Chicago. I think mock lineups are ridiculous most of the time, but I can't help myself... PG- Rose SG- Allen SF- LeBron PF- Gibson (or even Deng, depending on matchups) C- Noah That team wins 60 games sleepwalking.
  7. Yeah, it's only a rumor, but I can't help getting excited about it. I have some hope because it makes sense on several levels. No other team can offer him the same combination of a major market and surrounding talent that Chicago can.
  8. I agree. Castro should stay in AA for the next few years, then take a few years to make sure he's got AAA figured out. There's no reason to rush him to Wrigley any sooner than 2015, at the earliest.
  9. True. But there'd only be about 15 per year for you to enjoy.
  10. Yup. In almost every instance, someone running on the field is just drunk and looking for attention, but there have been enough instances of players and umps being attacked that it shouldn't be tolerated. It's really not hard to understand. If you don't want to get tasered at a baseball game, all you have to do is stay somewhere in the stands.
  11. No. Don't run onto the field and act like an idiot. It's as simple as that.
  12. That's because it's so easy to watch managers make moves, point to them afterwards and then pin the loss on the manager. It's a biased search for information. Over and over again, it's been shown that good managers can make a 2-3 game difference from bad managers. That's it. Lou probably falls somewhere in between.
  13. Is that because we can't fire all the players who suck? It's weird that people still think managers have a significant effect one way or another on baseball teams.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
  15. Not really. Pretty much everyone thinks he sucks.
  16. John Lannan is a #1. Jon Lester is a #2.
  17. Good thread.
  18. That doesn't mean they'll spend unlimited money. Every team has a budget. If they can apply the savings from Brown to getting a safety or o-line help, it could be worth it.
  19. Gordon has also played hurt the entire year. He's obviously not this bad.
  20. I'm not sure he'll have much value if the Bears say they'll release him if they can't trade him. Doesn't that sort of kill his trade value?
  21. I don't know about needing to "forgive" him, but I'd be happy if he could put up a .270/.325/.500 line. I don't know if it's realistic to expect much better than that.
  22. How so? By showing up to camp fat and posting a 5.73 ERA in 11 innings?
  23. That's the absolute worst.
  24. This statement tells me you aren't as grown as you think you are. Yes I am!!!
  25. I'm a grown man, so I don't wear sports jerseys anymore.
