This doesn't make sense. The guy who has spent the most money is suddenly not going to be all in on Ohtani? Because I'm pretty sure saying you plan to take a step back, a year after not making the playoffs, isn't a selling point for a guy who wants to win

PCA, Shaw, and Horton are the only ones I would make off limits. Alonso is a difference maker in the lineup at a huge position of need for the Cubs.

Had the hardest time coming up with a Cubs 3K hit guy... had to go in the way back machine. After I got it, I was shocked that didn't ever get to 3000 hits. It's a much smaller club than I realized

That's a fantastic idea... he's a decent ML player, which the Pirates need, and somewhat superfluous to the Cubs' lineup needs since they need power and the only position available to Madrigal is 3B.

I'd love to have them both (assuming Candelario replaces Wisdom), depending on the cost and Candelario's health. Not sure Jeimer moves the needle that much, so I don't know that I would want to give up what they'll likely want for him

There's no reason they would move Alonso if they're going all in on Ohtani (which they will and should). They're moving Scherzer and maybe Verlander only because they're old and making tons of money in what has become a lost season for them. They actually saved money overall by paying $35M of Scherzer's money, because they end up saving even more in luxury tax dollars. -

I'd do it for Wicks and Alcantara, maybe a low-level pitcher too? I don't want the Cubs FO to get too in love with guys just because they developed them.
