  1. http://www.hardballtimes.com/the-legend-of-danny-goodwin/ Expected to be a power-hitting catcher, but messed up his shoulder on his throwing arm and basically wrecked him as a catcher. Sucked defensively as a 1B and never panned out as a hitter in the bigs and that was that. That's a pity. Then again, these 1st rounds are littered with wasted potential
  2. I want to know the story of Danny Goodwin. Draft #1 overall TWICE and a -1.7 career bWAR
  3. This is bWAR, not fWAR, though Fangraphs only has him slightly higher at 19.0
  4. Just for fun, the career bWAR of all the #1 overall picks since 1965 * = no MLB service time bold = still active 117.7 - Alex Rodriguez (1993) 85.0 - Chipper Jones (1990) 83.6 - Ken Griffey Jr. (1987) 50.0 - Joe Mauer (2001) 43.8 - Adrian Gonzalez (2000) 42.0 - Darryl Strawberry (1980) 38.5 - Harold Baines (1977) 34.3 - B.J. 5. I'm bored so I'm making some baseball quizzes on Sporcle. I'm looking at all the first rounds of the amateur drafts, and I don't know if there was a worse year than 1975 http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round&draft_round=1&year_ID=1975 Rick Cerone's 8.1 career bWAR is #1 in that year's first round, and all the players in the first round combined for a 10.7 career bWAR. WOOF ETA: By contrast, the 1977 draft has six players with a career bWAR over 20, with a total round career bWAR of 264.8
  6. Just watched that NLCS vid......Fowler is all over that thing. :(
  7. That dude who was bitching about this wasn't from the area, right? Because that would be hilarious if it was the same guy
  8. It reminds me of when USC had so many 5 star recruits that some of them just never got playing time (see: Matt Cassel)
  9. PSU signed Tariq Castro-Fields as well
  10. Penn State's recruiting class is a real-life Key&Peele sketch
  11. Now that's a name I haven't hear in a long time.......long time
  12. Only $1000? I'll take 10
  13. LeBron already has Kyrie, Love, Tristan and Korver. The Cavs have the highest payroll in the league. I don't know what else he wants
  14. I think it's clearly "evil". Nothing he does is by accident. It's all coldly calculated, and it's all evil
  15. Choose wisely
  16. I've basically chosen to not watch the team this year. Not out of protest, but out of disinterest. I can't imagine spending two hours watching them anymore
  17. Take the over
  18. and not that money (or lack thereof) excuses it in any way to begin with, and I know it gets said every time a high profile celeb gets pegged for DUI or dies in a wreck, but why the hell aren't they being driven around when they go out and get trashed wtf It's no fun to have someone else drive your Ferrari
  19. Someone straighten Bryant's tie for chrissake. Oh, right, he's not making "entourage of stylists" money yet
  20. Josh Gordon isn't worth the headaches
  21. That's a pose I strike a lot, so it's perfect for me
