Rose betting on baseball, on his own team, could have had a HUGE effect on games. did he bet on games he played or on games he managed? and betting doesn't tarnish the fact that he was statisically the most accomplished hitter of all time

And the team is................................the Cardinals! They are relocating the New Jersey Cardinals here to Happy Valley. I'm so conflicted! On the one hand, i'm thrilled to be getting a minor league team (in a brand new stadium) just 3 miles from my house. On the other hand, it's the frigging Cardinals! -
Now that you mention it, there are criminally few division games in September. WTF? I hope this gets sorted out.

How is this typical? Can you site other incidents similar to this from the White Sox this year? Every year for the past 4 years, the Sox telling the media that they're better than the Twins. "Magglio Ordonez is a Venezuelan #####! He's got an enemy (More ##### and more hateful obnoxiousness)" Buehrle's whining about the Rangers supposed cheating from a team whose fans would gloat for years about what a great sign stealer Nossek was. Guillen's whining at every single oppurtunity possible about everything and anything. If Podsednik's mediocre year didn't appeal so well to old-schoolers, I can't understand why anyone would root for this sham of a team. Sham? 99 win sham? C'mon, I know people hate the Sox, but a crappy team doesn't luck it's way into 99 wins. All those things you listed are inexcusable, but I could got item for item with the Cubs actions the past 2 years as well.

I'm conflicted on this issue. Sometimes I think you need to separate the misdeeds from the good deeds in times of celebration. For example, I would have applauded Pete Rose at the "100 greatest players" celebration simply because of his baseball accomplishments. Remember Jim Gray getting killed by the players because he chose that moment to bring up the gambling again? Sometimes you need to let it go and give them their due for their on-the-field accomplishments. That said, Rose's gambling didn't affect his ability to hit the baseball or amass records. Andro/Roids could have done that for McGwire.

Anyone think that Penn State can beat Ohio State this Saturday? OSU is coming off a bye week, but PSU is at home. If PSU wins this, holy christ is it going to be nuts here.

Francouer will win because of his hype, while Howard actually had better numbers (and filled in for an injured superstar in Thome). I don't follow the AL enough to even know who is a candidate

I agree with the idea that Pujols will win on a "make up call" for the last 2 seasons where he lost to Bonds. It's also about perceived value vs. cold-hard stats. Pujols (and even Jones) are perceived as being more valuable because they play on winning teams. Jones will get quite a few votes since he really excelled at a time when there were 47 rookies on the team. You all give the voters WAY too much credit for statistical analysis. Many probably don't even know what OBP is much less Win shares or VORP

Hey, I'm in that picture! And again MSU finds itself way behind a team they beat in the polls. I'm pretty sure that they erase the memories of the pollsters every week to make sure they are only judging their picks based on yesterday's games.
