The players know the zone better than the umps. They shouldn’t have to expand their zone (which almost always ends up a weak grounder or a pop up) to adjust to a bad or inconsistent zone.
On the one hand, Penn State can't have another "beats everyone but OSU and Michigan" season (because they aren't playing Michigan).
On the other, they'll probably have a "beats everyone but OSU, Oregon and USC" season instead
You're creating a situation where the manager and trainers have to make a real-time decision about sending a guy to the IL in the middle of a game. How is that a good thing?
That seems like a dumb rule considering that you aren't running an MRI or X-Ray on the guy on the mound mid-game. Pitchers leave games all the time for shoulder tightness or a blister or whatever without having to go on the IL
