  1. Why? Marshall and Hill will be fine. Don't worry about it. But Marquis wont, so there is reason to have concern about our rotation. Show me a team in the NL that doesn't have at least 1 or 2 question marks in their rotation? There are better options than Marquis starting is my point. With where the Cubs are at right now in the race, they cant afford to be giving a game away every 5 days. The Cubs are not going to release/DFA Marquis. Get over it
  2. Brower is average at best, and is 34. Why the heck would they call him up over one of their top pitching prospects, who is ready to contribute in the majors? Their pen isn't good and just got worse. HENDRY'ED!

  4. i have a feeling that had I been there live, my reaction to his entrance would have been completely different
  5. By all account I've read (besides fans here), DeRosa is an above average defensive outfielder. he has seemed a little overwhelmed the last couple of games Based on what? based on bad routes to balls, misplaying balls off the wall, etc.
  6. if only it was 2000 (cirillo) or 2002 (kim)

  8. actually, many of these guys would have to play DOWN to expectations, as they are playing above their heads right now. do not want Who exactly is playing above their head besides Fontenot? derosa lilly marquis howry marmol
  9. No, Fontenot is the new Augie. pagan is the new neifi
  10. DeRosa in RF pains me. He hasn't looked any better out there recently than Floyd
  11. a) you're speculating on Soto's ability to hit major league pitching (see: Dubois, Pie, etc.) b) it's never going to happen anyways, so I guess we're screwed a) Yes I am. b) Didn't we know that coming in? a) I can't b) yes

  14. As far as the Jacque Jones thing, did you really want to burn Jones there? With the Soriano injury, they had already used Fontenot. If you burn Jones without even an at-bat, now you've used your top 3 hitters off of the bench in the 7th inning. When the pitcher's spot comes up again (which might be in a big spot), you only have Ronny Cedeno and Koyie Hill left on the bench. this is true. Jones was announced before Randolph went to the pen
  15. it wasn't so much a need than it was just a natural occurrence. I simply haven't relied on Wood or Prior for 2 years I haven't relied on him either, but I don't see how that translates into feeling creepy when he does return. just telling you what my initial reaction was. It was just weird to me
  16. you'd have some really lively debates with yourself I guarantee you some people on here would love to see me debate with myself. maybe if the debate involved daggers or pistols
  17. Epatt? We have to be nearing the record for most people added to the 40-man in one season. And we clearly have a shortage of middle infielders. we only have two, right? DeRosa is an OF'er, right? Cedeno who?
  18. did I mention that he'd get 4 AB's a week for the Cubs?
  19. The team is 58-52, with a Pythagorean W/L of 61-49, so this is pretty much what the team is supposed to be doing. A little underachieving, but otherwise, playing to expectations
  20. if he continues to pitch well, i'll get over the creepiness, believe me.

  22. Go Cubs. Was it really necessary for you to take a shot at Vance? Is it really necessary to so explicitly buck the rules of the site? I'm not trying to slam Vance...he's an awesome guy and brings a ton to this board, but it baffles me how he's able to get away with that. Total posts: 34253 Membership: Premium That's how. I hate how the system works, too. How the system works is that the moderators take care of rules violations, or you report a rules violation to a mod if they don't see it. They don't need 15 other people trying to enforce the rules for them.
  23. That's a pretty poor extrapolation. First of all, Ramirez missing the rest of the season in that case is 5 weeks. That timeframe puts Soriano back for the last 15 or so games plus the playoffs. Also, the Cubs were way out of contention by late August of 2005. There was no reason for Ramirez to come back to play 5-10 meaningless games. Yeah, but 4 weeks is probably just for the injury. Then there's the rehab, the warmup assignments (probably not in the minors in Sori's case). That'll take a couple weeks too. Then you can't expect him to be real productive the first couple weeks back, because he's rusty. I dunno, I don't think it's as poor an extrapolation as you do. where are you getting 4 weeks just for the injury? I think when the team says "out for up to 4 week", they're including everything. Really? I never think that. It's almost always longer than the timeframe they give, and it's usually because the player still needs to work up to MLB-ready form after the actual injury. I do. When they say "out 2 to 4 weeks" I assume that after that time period, he'll be back in the lineup
