  1. i think Meph reasoning would put the Pac 10 down a peg after this week (Cal and Oregon losing to inferior teams)
  2. I think it's impossible to compare those eras. There are hardships and advantages to both eras. there are actually metrics to compare eras, i just don't have them available to me
  3. my mistake. i was thinking that a bowl could take the SEC #4 over an SEC #2 if they want (since three bowls are "tied-in" to SEC They can. I think Meph was talking about BCS bowls, which is a different story. even then, as if the Pac 10 or Big 10 champ is in the title game, for example, the Rose Bowl can go with at-large teams
  4. the '72 Dolphins a great analogy. That team gets revered for going undefeated but they wouldn't go 8-8 in today's game. Likewise, neither Cobb nor Ruth would be anything great in today's game.
  5. my mistake. i was thinking that a bowl could take the SEC #4 over an SEC #2 if they want (since three bowls are "tied-in" to SEC 2/3/4"
  6. Not a likely scenario. 1. LSU has to lose to one of two teams (teams that UF is better than so they can beat teams that good) 2. LSU then has to get an at large BCS berth, which is likely, unless they lose to Arkansas and beat UGA 3. USC has to get a BCS at large berth, but not win the Pac 10. If they win the Pac 10... 4. OSU has to get in the NC 5. USC and LSU gets BCS berths and then with conference tie-ins they have to hope that WVU gets into the NC versus a Big 12 team...and the other big 12 teams dont get berths 6. Fiesta Bowl picks both LSU and USC. Plus a bunch of other things involving Hawaii and such. Possible? Yes...likely? No. now way they play in a non-BCS game? I don't believe the SEC has a tie in with a bowl that also has a tie in with the Pac 10. They have them with the BE, BXII, BT and ACC. those tie-ins sorta fall apart if better teams are available
  7. awwww shucks

  9. LSU could face USC in a bowl if LSU loses to either Arkansas or Georgia
  10. they should have taken the "dirt path from home to the mound" idea to it's logical extreme, making paths to 2nd, shortstop and all 3 OF positions
  11. Yeah, as derwood said, People have said that for 20 years, and it's still here, and still getting stronger. It's here to stay. Getting stronger? that's what Kanye told me
  12. Meph, have fun banging your head against the wall every year. the only metric that will ever matter in college football is wins and losses.
  13. Sorry, I can't follow you there. There's something to be said for the relativity between bad wins and good losses, but you can't weight them equally like that, it's the fundamental purpose of the sport. sure you can. we're talking about predicting who is better. in terms of future performance, theyre identical. This may sound crazy, but why are we talking about predicting future performance? Ranking the teams should be a reflection of what has happened, not what the percentages are moving forward. that would ruin Meph's theory
  14. Another knee slapper from the great jester of NSBB. i laughed
  15. i can't wait until the SEC loses 3 or 4 bowl games and then Meph tells us that the games don't really tell us who is better but the computer does
  16. the SEC is a joke and will be exposed in bowl games. the only thing they have going for them is a fan base of people with no lives and and thus are able to continually spew junk about how great they are the computers? if thats all you got youre barking up the wrong tree computers don't play football
  17. The original "i have black friends". I'm sure Cobb was George Wallace's hero
  18. MORELLI'D!!!
  19. penn state destroyed canisius something like 92-40
  20. First, that isn't the right quote. I believe it was "I hit homeruns when I need to." Regardless, in 1925 at the age of 37, he told the media that he was going to try and hit homers the next two games and he got 5 of them in those two games, a record which stood for a long, long time. So he was obviously capable of doing it. But I guess that isn't the point here. The question is whether he would have hurt or helped his team more by swinging for the fences. I think considering the era that he played the majority of his career in, with its loose ball and huge dimensions, he would have helped his team more by slapping the ball around and getting on base than trying to hit home runs, which would probably end up as fly outs in those days, resulting in him getting on base fewer, which is surely lowered his effectiveness and value. We aren't talking about some beast of a man here like Mark McGwire. This is a guy who dominated the basepaths and stole home 49 times. It's not like the guy didn't slug the hell out of the ball though. His career OPS+ is 167, which is ninth all time. but you said that he said he was going to hit HR's (presumably in huge parks) and hit 5 in 2 days.
  21. That one got my vote because there was a story a few years back about a kid getting stabbed for yelling "Roll Tide!" in an Auburn frat. That rivalry is vicious. idiots stabbing each other doesn't qualify as "best" anything
  22. Mike and Mike were discussing this on their show. they wondered if Boras' reputation as a "win at all costs, never takes less than he demands" agent has taken a serious blow here.
  23. you've said that Cobb "could have hit more homeruns but chose not to." That is not a brilliant baseball mind
  24. In other news, Juan Pierre is the same player as Alfonso Soriano (w/ exception of power). Wow. Excellent comparison. Juan Pierre, who might fall into 1 HR a year and Alfonso Soriano who will typically hit 40+ HR to Cedeno who might hit 10-15 HR vs. Greene who will top out around 25 HR. Bravo. Way to go to an extreme to try to make somebody else look bad. U R awesome. cedeno might hit 10-15 HR per year? in what universe? He hit 14 in 2007. 4 in 72 big league at bats, a pace for 27 over 500 at bats. It's a matter of whether or not he can stick in the majors, not whether or not he can hit 10-15 HR in a season. really, you're going to use 72 AB's plus AAA time in a notoriously hitter friendly PCL as proof? fine, if he hits 15 HR in a season at the majors, you can bring this back up and i'll eat my words
  25. no way bradley is ready until June, right? Torn ACL AND MCL.
