  1. I love that people think that guys like Joe Buck, etc. are expressing personal bias all the time. You do realize that the producers of the television broadcast have production meetings and instruct the announcers as to what storylines/players/teams they should be highlighting, right?
  2. the only way Wrigley Gum would have had free advertising all these years is if there were huge Wrigley Gum advertisements all over the ballpark.
  3. I dunno, I would think it would be the opposite. There have been a gazillion games in Wrigley, and when it's all said and done, there's going to be a gazillion more. But if/when this transpires, it's going to be probably the only chance in you're lifetime you'll have to see Cubs home games not in Wrigley. That seems more rare and precious than just doing the stock 'trip to wrigley' that every cubs fan has done. PLUS, you get the satisfaction of completely emasculating dbag white sox (the ones that are dbags) fans. It's a win-win Cuse. Consider it. why would white sox fans be at the game that day? what? how else will you emasculate the white sox fans? you don't actually go out of your way to talk to them otherwise, do you:?

  5. i thought he said that he was going to be in town doing the DePaul game but he'd be at Opening Day. I could have misheard though DePaul game? On March 31st? Thats the weekend of the Sweet 16/Elite 8 IIRC. i guess i misheard then. when was the last time Musberger did baseball for ESPN? I know i'm in the minority, but i really like Musberger, especially for college football Didn't he do the Arizona playoff series (like 4 months ago) and was awful? that was Dick Stockton
  6. But Cuban wants to get rid of the 7th inning Take me out to the ballgame and have a Dancing with the Stars during the 7th instead. it would be an upgrade
  7. Are you telling me July 31 is still 9 or 10 months away??!?!?!? My birthday is July 22nd and I was hoping it would be much sooner than that. It's going to feel like 16 or 17 months since my last birthday by then. the new trade deadline is October 31
  8. This is one of those situations where you wish some ex-Cub player would pony up the dough to buy the naming rights. I think fans would be fine if it was renamed Ernie Banks Field or something. Sadly, with the price of naming rights these days, no ex-ballplayers have the cash to do that
  9. the cubs are the #3 draw on the road. the "most cubs fans go to wrigley to get drunk" statement is a myth. partially. i think a good number go to Wrigley to get drunk, but if you banned those people from going to games, the place would fill up with people who actually like baseball. in other words, there are a lot of good baseball fans who can't go to wrigley because of the drunk d-bags It certainly would be a long, tough year for all the bars and other businesses in Wrigleyville. but oh, how the smug neighborhood association would revel in their smuggy smugness
  10. ha ha ha. "free" advertising for Wrigley Gum. HA HA HA HA dumb

  12. yikes I know, and with such an important game on the line too what's scary is that one or two things go wrong and we're looking at that in a game that DOES matter
  13. i thought he said that he was going to be in town doing the DePaul game but he'd be at Opening Day. I could have misheard though

  15. Honestly, who didn't see this coming? Tennessee is about as convincing a #1 team as South Florida was a #2 in CFB
  16. and this is everyone's problem with you. I gave you CAREER stats, meaning Yankees/Rangers/Nationals/Cubs, showing pretty clearly that Soriano does not, in fact, hit well with runners on. Do I need to give you the numbers from last year? Fine. 2007 WITH THE CUBS w/ bases empty: .937 OPS w/ men on: .814 OPS w/ RISP: .827 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .872 OPS 1st inning: 1.038 OPS 9th inning: .597 OPS
  17. welcome to the NIT Buckeyes.
  18. i'm pretty sure you don't read anyone's responses, but i'll say this again: CAREER w/ bases empty: .868 OPS w/ men on: .803 OPS w/ RISP: .770 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .745 OPS 1st inning: .922 OPS 9th inning: .748 OPS so i'm not sure why you "don't buy" that he doesn't hit well with runners on, when THERE ARE THE NUMBERS IN BLACK AND WHITE also, since he DOESN'T hit as well lower in the order, i'm not sure why you think him doing so would "be in the team's best interest"
  19. you decide: CAREER w/ bases empty: .868 OPS w/ men on: .803 OPS w/ RISP: .770 OPS w/ 2 outs, RISP: .745 OPS 1st inning: .922 OPS 9th inning: .748 OPS
  20. Why? When people were supporting going after Roberts, their main defense to the "we already have a second baseman" arugment was about how Roberts is a leadoff hitter and Derosa isn't. Fine. I don't agree with it, but fine. But now we're discussing other second baseman that don't leadoff, just because the Roberts trade seems unlikely. What the hell is going on? Why don't we focus on upgrading positions that actually need it? Soriano will lead off Hudson could bat 2nd He would presumably come at a lower cost in terms of prospects
  21. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LINEUP. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL WITH RUNNERS ON. ALFONSO SORIANO DOES NOT HIT WELL WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION. Seriously, the mod already warned you a bout thise "I refuse to acknowledge others points" nonsense. It has nothing to do with babying Soriano or making him feel comfortable, it about making him perform best. Like badnews said, an .890 ops hitter is always better than an .810 ops hitter, no matter where in the lineup they're hitting. This overvaluing of the leadoff spot is ridiculous and has to stop. Alfonso Soriano should have never been signed by the Cubs. It was a makeup signing for not making an honest run at Beltran or Vlad years earlier. Might as well make the best of his signing, but the points you made in all caps underline why he is such an overrated POS. $18 million for a guy who can't handle the pressure of batting with runners on base? Great decision, Jim. okay. but he WAS signed, so we're discussing how to best use him
  22. Yeah there is a reason tailgating is so big before a brewers game. It's because it's the only choice. Miller Park has enough parking spots if 1.25 of the fans drive together. don't get me started on the parking. i went up there and was shocked (shocked i tells ya!) that they lot was "full". then there were cryptic signs to some off site lot that you might be able to find if you've lived in milwaukee your whole life
  23. Miller Park in Milwaukee has no neighborhood. NONE. it's in the middle of nowhere with just a parking lot, so i have no idea what that dude is talking about. Also, The Cell is a better ballpark than Miller. Miller is an abomination
