  1. He's trying to figure out how to disagree with everyone here.
  2. for what purpose? I don't know the # just went from 36 to 52 buses. 16 on tuesday night, 36 on thursday night
  3. I think it's at 5 pm today... but I'm doubting myself... might be 6. 5pm CDT news conference
  4. which is why i'd be happy with a top 1/2 finish. also, who expected PSU to do as well as they did this year? no one. so with all due respect, your preseason predictions don't mean much of anything
  5. I think most of us here considered UI and PSU to be similar teams heading into the season. I know a lot of casual Illinois fans were way down on the team this year. I think you're overestimating our expectations heading into the season. I predicted NIT berths for both. but for you, and NIT berth team is a disappointment for the program, expected or not. That's my point
  6. but no one was embarrassed by PSU's performance this year. They were on the bubble and got caught in a numbers game. I'm more disappointed in them losing the finale @Iowa, which would have gotten them into the dance. Again, it's a difference in expectations. If you thought you were a tourney team (eg Kentucky) but had to "settle" for the NIT, then yeah, I totally agree with you. If no one thought you'd be better than 10th in the Big Ten but ended up with 27 wins, what's to be down about?
  7. If Cutler can hit Hester in stride on a go route once a game, I'll be thrilled with the trade.
  8. Likewise, making the NCAA tourney was far more satisfying than losing twice to PSU. In all seriousness though, there was a different set of expectations coming into the season for both schools. PSU doesn't have any history of sustained success like Illinois does. A "down" year for Illinois is usually a "good" year for PSU. So, for a school that is trying to establish a higher level of competitiveness, a 5 game run through the NIT was a more valuable playing experience than the NCAA might have been. Now, if PSU had made the NCAA and had pulled an Arizona and gone to the Swet Sixteen, that' a completely different story. Either way, I'm proud of the players for shaking of the disappointment of missing the dance and playing some really good basketball in the NIT. They'll get to hang a banner, and they'll return most of their players for another run in the Big Ten next year. If they can finish in the top half next year, I'll be pretty happy.
  9. You guys are right. Beating Illinois twice during the regular season was far more satisfying that winning the NIT. 8-)
  10. where this was really valuable was in the extra games/practice time for all the underclassmen. We lose Cornley and Pringle, but I'm suddenly feeling better about Jones/Jackson/etc. supporting Battle next year. of course, now my fear is that Ed Dechelis may be one more good year from getting offers for a better job.
  11. bitter illini face
  12. Glad PSU won, but I didn't get to see the celebration because my GD DVR cut out with a minute left in the game.
  13. Soriano on the first pitch of the season
  14. Why did I think Tebow was coming out this year?
  15. sheffield could hit 40 HR this year if he got the fulltime job.
  16. After LeBron wins a ring (this year or soon), we'll see if he chooses to sit back and ride it out for the rest of his career, or push to get better
  17. maybe not a Pippen, but Ilgauskus is way better than Cartwright/Purdue, and guys like Williams, West and Varejao are close enough to Paxson, Armstrong, Kerr or Grant to compliment LeBron. I don't completely buy the "LeBron needs to have legendary playoff games and win multiple championships" angle either. Then again, I don't buy the arguments that Dan Marino wasn't as good as QB's X,Y and Z because he never won a Super Bowl either
  18. wow, the shine's off the Angels, eh? I thought they were "stacked for years"
  19. people hate Saban because he's a liar, not because of this "mercenary" personality you've invented for him
  20. He doesn't pitch and therefore doesn't need the magic of one Dave Duncan. I'm looking for the magic of Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick
  21. Calipari is not Nick Saban. That's just silly.
  22. Glad I wasn't the only person to pick Khalil. I'm hoping the pixie dust makes him a 30 HR guy
  23. Absolutely. The team that finished tied for 4th in the Big Ten beat the team that finished tied for 9th in the Big East (who also has a history of sucking beyond belief in the city of New York), so it's settled. ha ha ha, just talking a little trash. There seemed to be a lid on the basket for ND in the first half....I've never seen so many gimme layups roll off the rim. I thought Harongody was going to eat PSU alive inside, but they suddenly came up with some interior defense in the past week. Who knew?
  24. No, it was Jay Williams in the studio for halftime, and he already predicted Baylor would win easily
