  1. lol, at least you're taking it well. any less of a reaction (from an Illini fan) would be cause for suspicion. frankly, I'm surprised he didn't somehow blame Ed Hightower for this
  2. I hear Indiana swooped in and nabbed him at the gun if he's too good for illinois, then he's way too good for indiana. My Eric Gordon joke has failed.

  4. Do you mean on the radio? The game should only be on TBS for TV. FSN Ohio wth? I thought TNT games were national TV games and not broadcast locally. I've never seen a Thursday Bulls game covered by TNT and a local channel. dunno. didn't even realize it was on another channel. maybe the FSN's have a different contract than CSN

  6. why are the fans dumb, because they don't want their franchise to be a laughingstock? steinbrenner paid off a small-time bookie to dig up dirt on dave winfield; he was behaving like an idiot and if i were a yankee fan i would've wanted him gone too. he was acting like an ass, sure, but he was also putting the pieces together for what the Yankees became.
  7. if Hill had been good last year, they never would have traded for Harden
  8. I have the Cavs announcers and they are awful. Also, hey look, the Cavs run offensive plays and rotate on defense. I thought you were only allowed taking contested 17 foot jumpers and then stand around on defense.
  9. what i've seen of the 2nd half has had an amazing amount of non-shooting fouls while everyone is getting mugged in the lane with no whistles
  10. Even if he would be there, the Bears aren't going to take him. You've been a Bears fan long enough to know that. he'll drop to the Bears pick, Angelo will panic, trade down, and take a DB from a Division NAIA school
  11. he's amazing, and the best recruiter at the school. too bad his son his a total douche
  12. whatever it is, it's probably held by Raisin in the Minor Leagues forum
  13. Why on earth did OSU's WR Brian Hartline go pro? He might not even get drafted
  14. Really? Those groups look about equally blah to me. Nobody's seriously going to miss having bats like Blanco Cedeno and Pie available off the bench, right? The collective defensive value of those two groups seems roughly equal to me too. Miles to Cedeno is a mild downgrade. The rest is a wash. you can call them a wash, but the new bench is older and more expensive than last year's, and isn't better.
  15. After reading this thread, I've formed a few quick character judgments myself
  16. going further, a bench of Bako/Aurilia/Miles/Gathright/Johnson instead of Blanco/Fontenot/Cedeno/Pie/Johnson is pretty miserable
  17. maybe, but isn't that exactly how Steinbrenner built up the Yankees? okay sure, they're not a small market team, but he bought a crappy organization for nearly nothing and poured tons of his own resources into it. they're in by far the largest media market in the country and they had more championships than any other organization in professional sports when he bought them. also he was wildly unpopular during the '80s; yankee fans regarded him as a liar and an an embarrassment to the organization, and they gave a standing ovation at yankee stadium when it came out that he had been banned from baseball "for life." which only goes to show how dumb the fans were. just because he wasn't popular doesn't mean he wasn't good. he single-handedly made the Yankees what they are now and built up all of the related media companies, etc. to fund his team. Now all the other owners (who have been either unwilling to invest in the team at a loss for a few years to build their franchise or have lacked the business acumen to do so) are acting all butt hurt about it. I don't feel sorry for them in the least. The reason the Pirates, Royals, etc. have been bad is only partially due to funds; low (self-imposed) payroll is no excuse for the Pirates trading for Matt Morris or giving Kendall and Wilson ludicrous deals.

  19. he'll say go Pro. they interviewed him before the Rose Bowl and he more or less said that he encourages his kids to go pro if their draft stock is high.
  20. really hope this Newsome kid is the real deal at QB for Penn State, as at this point, he's going to be a 3 year starter
  21. have fun in Detroit, Stafford
  22. good stuff
  23. god I hope not
  24. i wouldn't say that so surely. atlanta is putting together a pretty good rotation. it shouldn't take a large amount of wins to take the nl wild card in 2009. i really hope we don't have to face him in the playoffs again either way though. and if we do, maybe the hitters will be prepared for the low and away pitches this time. but nothing about that lineup excites me. I love the caption on ESPN.com's MLB page: "The Braves could have made it easier and traded for Peavy, but instead they sign Lowe, who is older, more expensive, and not as good."
