You must really, really hate the NCAA Basketball tournament That's completely different and a ridiculous comparison and you know it. On one hand its a team taking one of eight and now 10 spots versus a team taking one of 64/65 spots. It's not different if a team from the ACC/SEC/Big XII had the best regular season record but missed out on the playoffs because they were upset in the conference title game by a worse team. In the basketball tournament, regular season champs of the big conferences get in anyways, but not at the mid-majors

Isn't the whole point of adding a BCS Title game a few years ago to have a definitive champion? There would be no point to having a title game a week after the other BCS bowls pitting #1 vs. #2 if some other team could end up champion

8 team playoff, with first round games on campuses of the higher seeded teams the week after conference championship games. "Final Four" on New Year's day (in rotating BCS Bowls) and Championship on the 1/8. Losers of first round games remain eligible for bowl games.

Just guessing, but I'm assuming that's due to a lack of terrible teams on Texas's schedule, while Cincy and TCU had a handful. That's not to say it's not meaningful, but it doesn't mean as much to me as if Texas played a bunch of good teams, while Cincy/TCU were playing mediocrities. most of Sagarin's formulas are a mystery, but he ranks them thusly (on SOS): Texas - 44th Cincinnati - 63rd TCU - 84th Other BCS Bowl teams: Alabama - 20th Florida - 27th Oregon - 4th Boise State - 98th Ohio State - 59th Ga Tech - 25th Iowa - 49th
