He's just trying to ensure a just result. Mizzou won 2 more games than ISU, beat them head to head, have better TV potential/star power, have a better recent history, and all evidence points to them bringing better numbers to the game than ISU. There's no logical reason for the Insight to pick Iowa State. I really don't have a problem with Missouri going to the Insight over ISU. Obviously Missouri is more deserving than ISU. That's not even debatable. I would debate that Missouri would bring better numbers, because they do travel pretty well, are more excited to be in the game, and the Insight wouldn't be considering this if they thought they'd lose money on the deal. Now publicly supporting one conference school over another aside (awful), I have no problem if Bebee wants to encourage the Insight to take a more deserving team. I mean, he's said similar things about 7-5 Oklahoma likely jumping them for the Sun Bowl, and the potential for 6-6 Texas A&M to jump them for the Indy Bowl, right? If he was really worried about this he could have done the same thing the Big 10 did and stipulate in the bowl contracts that they can't pick a team unless they're within one game of the best remaining overall record. That hasn't happened, probably because it would hurt Texas/Oklahoma/A&M/Nebraska more often than the Missouri's, Iowa State's, and Baylor's of the conference. In fact, just one month ago Bebee proposed changes to ensure 6-6 teams are treated equally in the bowl selection process. He may be fighting for a just result this time, but it's not because he's overly interested in seeing teams with better records go to better bowl games.
