  1. I'm just gonna say "+1" to this and try to forget tonight ever happened. In order to make myself feel better: Seattle 99 - Oregon St. 48.
  2. Blyleven picked up a lot of votes, I'm guessing he gets in before he leaves the ballot. Alomar will get in next year too, but it will be a year later than it should.
  3. Boise State set themselves up nicely for the championship game next year (which is conveniently in Glendale). They'll finish this year in the top 4, and they return 21 of 22 starters next year barring defections. They have VT in Washington DC and Oregon St at home to bolster their schedule as well.
  4. Dear Iowa State, REBOUND!!!!! Getting outrebounded by a Houston team that is 3 inches shorter across the board and ranks in the 300's in rebounding is ridiculous. You somehow won in 2OT today, but if you play like this against Duke on Wednesday it's gonna be a beatdown.
  5. ESPN with predictably bad coverage of this. Among other things, Mike Patrick just stated "Adam James was punished for having a concussion." That's a pretty gigantic leap in logic and isn't supported by anything I've seen, including the trainer statement that came out today. If anything it sounds more and more like he was being punished for not following the dress code, and loafing while he was supposed walking around the track.
  6. I'm a couple of days late with this, but it's nice to win a bowl game again, even if it was an ugly game against Minnesota. Rhoads definitely has this team headed on the right track. If he can recruit (and this year should be the highest rated Iowa State recruiting class in a while) there should be many more bowl games in the future.
  7. I'm not sure how in the wrong Leach is here with the conflicting reports, but I'm guessing he picked the wrong time (when he actually had a concussion) and wrong player (ESPN broadcaster's son) to discipline for being lazy in the past. It's pretty obvious this was just used as an excuse to fire him though. Even if it's as bad as the James camp says (and the "electrical closet" is more of an interview room) making him stand for a couple hours isn't exactly an atrocity and is orders of magnitude better than some of the stuff Mangino is said to have done. It's not like the AD can take some player protection moral high ground either, he hired Bob Knight a few years ago. The school powers must really hate him, because it's obviously not a good move for their program.
  8. If we're talking semi-obscure games that should be on the list, the 2001 GMAC Bowl should be included somewhere. I'd also agree that Padres-Rockies Game 163 should be on there, along with the US>France relay and Arizona-Illinois. 2007 Fiesta Bowl is my #1 as well.
  9. His college QB coach was Ryan Leaf. What did you expect?
  10. I've been seeing these stats thrown around on a couple of sites. I'm too lazy to check them myself, but they're pretty impressive if true. Alabama D-Line Season Totals 98tkl - 23.5tfl - 9.5sk - 20qbh - 5pbu - 0int - 1ff - 3bk Florida D-Line Season Totals 112tkl - 33tfl - 14sk - 48qbh - 5pbu - 0int - 1ff - 0bk Texas D-Line Season Totals 116tkl - 25.5tfl - 15.5sk - 10qbh - 7pbu - 0int - 2ff - 0bk Suh Season Totals 82tkl - 23tfl - 12sk - 24qbh - 10pbu - 1int - 1ff - 3bk
  11. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4727426 I'm not sure I agree with Congress getting involved in this, but either way this just looks like a semantics argument with the BCS. It only prohibits promoting or merchandising a game as a "championship" game unless it's the last game of a playoff. It seems like it would be pretty easy to go back to the old system where they called it the Rose/Orange/Fiesta/Sugar Bowl, promote it as "1 vs 2" or something, and carry on as usual.
  12. Yards gained by Baltimore's offense: 145 Yards Green Bay has been penalized: 143 Total penalty yardage by both teams: 277
  13. Here's the ballots from the final coaches poll. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2009-final-coaches-ballots.htm Les Miles' Top 10: 1. Alabama 2. Texas 3. Florida 4. TCU 5. Ohio State 6. Oregon 7. Boise State 8. Cincinnati 9. Penn State 10. Iowa Head to head is apparently not of great importance to Les.
  14. Complete schedule: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4111912
  15. The bowls pick the at large teams themselves, so blame the Fiesta for this. Apparently Boise-TCU pulled in some crazy TV ratings last year.
  16. what else is new? in 2007 we beat ku, finish ahead of them in the standings, yet they got the orange bowl. in 2008 we beat nebraska, finish ahead of them in the standings, yet they got the gator bowl. in 2009 we beat iowa state, finish ahead of them in the standings, yet they get the insight bowl. really unless we ever win the big 12 championship, were always gonna be a step or two below where we should be. its not fair, but the big 12 blows and so do the bowl selection committees. It is pretty ridiculous. I'd be in favor of a rule that prevents lower teams jumping higher teams, but it's not in the interest of the bigger schools so it probably won't happen. I'm not a fan of how this conference is being run at all.
  17. MSU is going to be missing a few key players who are suspended indefinitely because of a campus brawl. That's good I guess, though apparently Minny to the Alamo isn't a done deal yet.
  18. Fixed.
  19. ISU to the Insight. Probably vs Michigan St. Would've preferred Minnesota to MSU, but ISU is lucky to be there anyway.
  20. So much fail from the networks now, at least in my area. I guess this isn't FOX's fault, but CBS sticking with Denver running out the clock instead of going to Miami or Oakland is inexcusable. Nice win for the Dolphins though. They keep pulling me back in. ETA: LOL CBS. NOW you switch over.
  21. Thanks for sticking with this awesome KC-Denver game CBS. I didn't want to see Miami-NE anyway.
  22. Do they think TCU/Boise is good for TV or something? They do know this game happened last year right? That game seems terrible for them. I would imagine a "David v Goliath" matchup would draw more people, even if David might be the favorite this time.
  23. I believe the selection order for at large selections is Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar. The Sugar is basically a lock to take Florida. I can't imagine why the Fiesta would pass up Iowa/PSU with the 2nd pick to set up a mid-major battle. If they do that, the Orange picks out of TCU, Cincy, and the last at large (Boise/VT/BYU). They can't pick VT because they already have GT from the ACC and taking BYU would be hilarious, so they take whoever will travel better out of Boise, TCU, and Cincy. I can see the last three going in any order, but my guess to how this plays out is: MNC: Alabama v Texas Rose: Oregon v OSU Sugar: Florida v Cincy Fiesta: Iowa v TCU Orange: GT v Boise
  24. Okay, this is ridiculous. ISU is losing by about 20 to Cal and getting out rebounded approximately 40-20. There's no freaking way a team this tall and athletic should be getting beat on the glass this bad. McDermott needs to get this team turned around fast or there's gonna be a push to get rid of him.
  25. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
