  1. Yeah, Z, you're gonna have to strike everyone out tonight.
  2. This might be less scary than most of the bullpen.
  3. Iowa State isn't exactly a team that can expose those weaknesses. If KU can get a decent pass rush ISU will be in trouble, since they haven't shown the capacity to run the ball yet. The defensive line has a few pass rushers, but is pretty weak against the run. If the team that played the 2nd half against UNLV shows up it could be close, but if the team that had 38 total yards in the 1st half of that game plays, Kansas can name the score.
  4. Was I the only one hoping the article was announcing his resignation?
  5. I'm torn between feeling bad for Mets fans and laughing uncontrollably at their team.
  6. Looks like a low, basically no risk move. I assume he'll be starting in AAA next season while Pie replaces Johnson and/or Edmonds on the ML roster. I doubt he amounts to much as a major league contributor, but if the cost is DFAing Harben it's worth a shot.
  7. From what I can tell, direct snaps to Ronnie Brown = automatic TD.
  8. I just got in, is the NE-MIA score a misprint? 21-6? I didn't think my Dolphins were capable of playing that well.
  9. ISU just put the Cubs fake rallying skills to shame. Totally outplayed and down 21-0 at half, come all the way back including a 98 yard TD drive with 1:34 and 1 TO remaining, and lose by 34-31 in OT on a TD pass on UNLV's first play. Not that they really deserved to win when they were outgained by 148, but **** that sucks.
  10. Agreed, the last 2 minutes were filled with awful clock management, but that decision was obviously the right move.
  11. I think Pujols should be a lock this year (dominating in SLG and OPS), but it's probably going to be a close vote since Howard leads the league in HR and RBI. Sabathia and Ramirez could have a claim if they put up these numbers for the whole year, but I can't justify it when they've only played a third of the year in the NL. And where is this Carlos Delgado love coming from? I understand (but disagree with) the media's reasoning for CC, Manny, Howard, and a few others, but Delgado makes absolutely no sense to me.
  12. Hopefully Iowa State can rebound from their awful red zone performance against Iowa. Outgaining Iowa 325-244 doesn't matter much when you get 0 points from two trips inside the 5 yard line. The playcalling there was terrible. Oh well, @UNLV is next on the schedule. Looks like a pretty even matchup on paper, though UNLV did just upset Arizona State. Ultimately I hope UNLV gets their butts kicked for the bush league protest stunt they pulled 2 years ago in Ames. For those who missed it (probably everyone), UNLV was down 6 on the last play of the game. UNLV's receiver caught the ball in the endzone, but came down about a yard out of bounds, not a very close call at all. That didn't stop UNLV's coach from trying to track down the refs in their locker room, attempting to get a replay. The play was, in fact, quickly reviewed in the booth like every other play that year, a memo the coach obviously didn't receive. Here's a (nsfw) of what happened after that. Took them about 15 minutes to finally give up and leave the field.
  13. This. Or at least on ESPN Classic tomorrow night so I can record it. I've been waiting for Z to get this since I was at his near no-hitter against San Diego last year. Great job Carlos.
  14. I distinctly remember Kruk having a similar conversation with Brian Kenny a few weeks ago about the MVP. Can't remember the players involved, but Kenny mentioned OBP and/or SLG and how RBI were a partially function of batting order. Kruk pretty much ignored him and went along making his argument. It's ironic that guys like Morgan and Kruk, who were valuable because they were great OBP guys, downplay its importance in their arguments.
  15. That didn't matter last year... Since Iowa State was outgained by Kent State this week, I'm not too confident. The rushing attack (outside of Bates) needs a lot of work, and the rush D is still awful. On the plus side, the pass D is much improved, and our kicking game looks better. Arnaud has been efficient passing, and Phillip Bates is easily our most athletic QB since Seneca Wallace (just needs some passing accuracy). If Iowa can do what South Dakota State and Kent State couldn't and limit their turnovers, they should be able to win with superior talent at home. A win by ISU wouldn't be too surprising though considering the recent history of the series. Go State!
  16. I only get WGN during the school year, and I've noticed the number of wins I get to see drop as well. I blame the change to WGN America for the difference in records.
  17. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AnEMvfvaqjl61QdTr4S03WZDubYF?slug=ms-bradyoutforyear090708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  18. Nope, just teasing me.
  19. Wow, the Dolphins driving for the win here.
  20. Iowa State had an unexpected burst of offense and beat Kent State 48-28. ISU is still awful against the run, but the pass D seems to be improving over last year. 2 QB system seems to be working so far, but we'll see what happens when they take it to Iowa next week. Also, USF just took an intentional delay of game at the UCF 20 with :15 left. I can maybe see giving the kicker a better angle, but it was 2nd down and they had a timeout as well. Run the ball to the middle of the field. Kicker missed, in OT now.
