  1. Hopefully they can start and Arrieta isn't wasted in a 2 inning performance followed by a long delay. I think he's better off staying on normal rest. The Cardinals didn't have much luck when they gave Lynn, Wacha, and Martinez a break. Hard to believe Arrieta has been as consistently dominant as he has been for so long. I'd hate to mess with that.
  2. I too was there for Game 3 in 2007 to see my favorite pitcher serve up the meatball on the first pitch of the game. Even being down 0-2 in the series, Wrigley had such a great feel to it. Well, until the first pitch of the game. I figured this was coming soon. I had to have my Season Ticket order placed by Tuesday afternoon.
  3. "Some guy on the radio" isn't credible enough for you?
  4. Gordo says no way on Hamels due to budget reasons. Kaplan says Cubs are strongly pursuing Hamels. Both posted their stories within a couple hours of one another. I wonder if they can both be wrong?
  5. A friend of mine who works for the Reds is convinced that the Reds and Cubs are talking about Marlon Byrd. Personally, I don't see how he fits on the roster. He has a vesting option at 550 plate appearances. He is currently at 283. Denorfia has done really well in that role so I don't really think it is likely. Byrd would bring more power for sure, but the OBP is sub .300 Again, this is not a rumor, just something my "thinks" is being discussed.
  6. Well, and then there is that tweet from Muskat. Hmmm...Have to think they are bringing him up to play and not sit around and watch Teagarden.
  7. Looks like Montero is expected to be out longer than 15 days. Schwarber is going to have to catch, forget LF or any other position for a while.
  8. Claimed by the Reds. Maybe he will get one of the starts in next week's DH? That would be interesting.
  9. Posted this in another thread, but 14th rounder Jake Kelzer out of Indiana is returning to school.
  10. Jake Kelzer, 14th Round pick out of Indiana tweeted that he is returning to school.
  11. Arrieta is sharp today. What a trade. Still under control for two more seasons. He is looking at a nice arbitration raise after this season.

    Castro

"The problem is, is he's not clutch! If you excuse the few times he's been clutch, of course.." Im as frustrated with Castro as anyone and am ready to bench him for other options, but that sentence is pretty ridiculous. I just mentioned it because it is honestly the only highlights I could think of for him this year. It wasn't a reference to however you want to define "clutch." He's been bad, maybe I should have just left it at that. I was just trying to think of something positive that he has done this year.

    Castro

It's hard to watch Castro right now. It's more than just not getting hits. It seems of late that in situations where he just needs to make some contact, like the 8th inning against St. Louis Wednesday night, he just can't do it (a few walk off wins not withstanding). His is dangerously approaching a sub .600 OPS for the year. If you want to get really depressed look up Theriot's time in Chicago, his OPS was never that bad. It's frustrating because he is much better than that, but really isn't showing a single sign of it this year. Hopefully he can turn it around after the ASB. They are going to need some productivity from that spot.
  14. Castro...wow. The definition of scuffling. Never thought I'd long for Theriot like production at SS.
  15. Coghlan had .434 OBP in June. 3 more walks today.
  16. I'm about to walk into the Myrtle Beach game with my son. If something remarkable happens I'll be sure to pass it on.
  17. Cubs drafting some Indiana University buddies of Schwarber's. RHP's Jake Kelzer and Scott Effross. Kelzer is 6-7, was also in the IU swim team.
  18. Motte had some nice velocity that inning. Consistently hitting 97 mph.
  19. I've been to 3 games at Wrigley this year and witnessed a grand total of 1 run. I attended Opening night..0 runs Friday... 1 run Yesterday...0 (had to leave to catch flight before Rizzo's HR) Happy to report that I am no longer in Chicago and am watching from home today.
  20. Yogi Ferell will be back for his senior season. I'm not sure what real option he had otherwise. Indiana will return their top 8 scorers and add a 6-10 McDonald's All-American. Crean won't have any excuses this year.
  21. If only his fastball was 111 mph too.... http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2013/07/video_red_sox_prospect_drake_b.html
  22. Denorfia has quietly crushed Lefties in his career, that is the good news. The bad news is that he was pretty bad against them last year. He can play all OF positions, but I would assume most of his time will be in a platoon with Coghlan in left.
  23. Rosenthal just confirmed it. 1 year deal for Denorfia.
