  1. Yea, fair and foul down the line and home runs in play are doubles. I heard that a week ago.
  2. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many of those. Leave it up to the teams to decide when to challenge. Or simply have an ump watching the replays on EVERY play and correcting the calls that are obviously wrong from a booth. If you can pull that off, great... then why not make an automated rulebook strike zone too?
  3. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many of those.
  4. Hard to compare the eras they played in. Santo's era was pitching dominated while Ramirez's was hitting dominated.
  5. I agree... but I don't believe WBC or Olympic Baseball should even exist... it's a pointless risk for injuries. It doesn't mean anything at all, either. 10 years from now any Latin American team would wipe the floor with any American team. Just play MLB.... stop trying to make more money, that's all the WBC was. It's also a great way to promote baseball around the world. More countries get interested in it, become better at developing players, and a greater talent pool becomes available. True... but we don't really have much room for people coming from all countries... unless we expand the league. What?? Did 1940s baseball not have room for black players? Latinos, Japanese, Chinese, Europeans, Australians, and possibly Africans. Little bit more than blacks don't you think?
  6. /drool Wish Soriano was healthy all season, he would be having a beast of a year.

  8. At least some of these guys were not washups at the time including the likes of Willis (coming off of a cy young runner up year and heading into a sub 4 ERA season), Damon (wbc was sandwiched between a couple of decent years), chipper (still not washed up, just a constant injury risk), and Barrett (coming off of a silver slugger campaign and going into another nice year). This is not to say that there certainly were better players out there, but every team was missing some of their potential stars. Canada didn't have Dempster, who was becoming a solid closer, Gagne, and others. I'm sure that many teams had a mix of this, but the truth is that in a tournament like this, much like the playoffs (but there to a lesser extent), hot and cold streaks affect the outcome. If I remember right, Japan also began preparing for this much earlier than other countries, which clearly aided them. This is not to say that I didn't love the last tournament and can't wait for the next. I was talking Todd Jones who had ONE good season with a 2.10 ERA and 40 Saves in 05 and was selected. Still washed up.
  9. I think Sac Bunts shouldn't count as a PA or at bat. However, Sac Flys can a lot of times happen on accident, and the hitter isn't penalized for it. Moving someone over on a ground ball for sure should counted as an AB because I don't know many hitters that go up to the plate hoping to hit a ground ball right at someone.
  10. Well I understand the "purposeful out" thing... but regardless... not every time does a player go up there TRYING to Sac Fly... Purposeful or not, it's still an out. I think an RBI should be awarded and that's it.
  11. Hart K's the side! Iowa Clinches!!
  12. It depends on the level and league, each is different. Looking on Wiki for how AAA playoffs work... couldn't find anything... is it 5-7-7 or something shorter like 3-5-5?
  13. Raisin, How do the ML playoffs work? I don't know the system at all. EDIT: McGehee K's... inning over. 3 outs to get for them to make the playoffs. 5-3 Iowa
  14. This is one of the scoring things I have never understood. You are still making an out whether its deep or not... just because it gets a run home, you're making an out. So why doesn't it count as an at-bat? Don't know if there is an easy explanation or not, just trying to learn.
  15. Pie Sac Fly.... 5-3 Iowa. Torres steals second, Hoffpauir up! EDIT: Hoffpauir Walked. 1st and 2nd 2 outs.
  16. Torres gets the lead in the Top of the 9th with a 1 run single! Runners at the corners, 1 out.
  17. Samardzija 1.06 17 2
  18. wrong, you celebrate the playoff berth, as a division title doesn't mean much more. Care to wager which will be the bigger celebration? I agree that a playoff berth is a significantly more important milestone but tradition alone dictates that the division title will be the bigger celebration. I agree. Also, this cubs team wants not only a playoff berth but also a division title AND home field advantage. Anything less to them will be a disappointment.
  19. Nice stats LOL!

  21. Dempster has been consistent all year and has maybe 2 bad outtings in his 30 starts. I would go with Demp, hands down.
  22. Wash ups that are risking injury for playing for a pointless reason. Griffey Damon Winn Schnieder Barrett Jones Willis Leiter Lidge Timlin Wheeler Majewski AMONG OTHERS Among a bunch of other pitching wash ups trying to make a name for themselves. The only thing that matters is the MLB, why should a stupid summer/winter league matter to anyone?
  23. There are quite a few excellent prospects on the team. That's great... but what if our ACTUAL player played? Then we'd call it the WBC and get crushed? Nope, WBC doesn't have our best players.
  24. "Best 5th Starter in Baseball" as you guys try to tell me. Anyone ever heard of: Clayton Kershaw John Garland Jered Weaver Edwin Jackson Glen Perkins Jesse Litsch ??? Hope he has an open mind to be traded as well as shoved into the bullpen for being TERRIBLE and NOWHERE near a top 5th starter.
