    due to bruce's stellar game, i think i may have this one. however, i've gone to bed on sunday night thinking i had won before. if i lose to HBC by less than two points for the second time this year due to the sunday night game, i'm going to be pretty pissed.

    duch went to the DL, so i picked up suppan, who pitches tomorrow. duch was scheduled for a second start this week, so i'm pretty sure this move is OK (as suppan is just replacing the start i lost from duch). if not, somebody say something.

    and i never undersand how grown (?) men (?) literally act like five year olds denied a lollipop when their first place, slam dunk to make the playoffs baseball team gets behind 6-4 in the sixth inning of a virtually meaningless baseball game. yet it happens. Have you never watched a game with you buddies or at a bar, no matter how unimportant the game is and got pissed off when the team strokes it? It happens. no. that sounds like a miserable time.

    I mentioned in my post that I don't always agree with sportswriters (especially about Santo), but I would hope that posters ought to agree that any player elected on the first ballot was a great player (and usually a great hitter). If posters can't agree that players like Carew, Boggs, Brett, etc. were great hitters, then I think their definition of a great hitter is skewed. my goodness, dude, what on earth are you talking about? who the hell said george brett wasn't a great hitter? your posts in this thread have been beyond awful.

    roosevelt brown? seriously, hoffpauir's not the answer to anything. but there may be some complacency from fukudome. am i sensing complacency? yes, i think i am. Hoffpauir has been hitting the cover off the baseball all season long. He also did well in his short time in the Majors. Something needs to change. Fukudome has an OPS of .631 the 2nd half of the season and has been awful since May. yeah, because this season is quickly spiraling out of control.

    That really has nothing to do with it. I think he finally adjusted to his loss of velocity and now is back on track. I agree. I think it doesn't matter to him if he is the '#1' or the '#5' He just goes out there to get a W for his team. I highly doubt anyone went up to him after the Harden trade and saidyou are now officially #4. there was actually a ceremony.

    why are you guys using logic to argue with this guy? he a) made up a term and b) made up the standard that you need to meet to qualify for this made up term. it's idiotic. guess what...i only like hitters that i deem "ultra mega-hitters." to qualify for this standard, you have to hit at least 31 doubles, 17 homers, wear your pants high and be from east of the mississippi. let's have 8 pages of message board argument about how dumb i am.

    see...right there...you had to look up stats like some kind of scientist with a pocket protector. you shouldn't have to "look up" stats to know someone is a great hitter. YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT.

    i'm amused that hitting "the sweet spot of the ball" is a trait attributed to guys not named adam dunn given that i think adam dunn gets a pretty good chunk of the sweet spot when he hits it to the moon, and i question how many singles flipped the other way off the bat of rod carew were truly the result of striking the ball on the sweet spot.
