  1. You guys need to calm down.
  2. Hmmm...I guess I don't get the game.
  3. That last drive was a thing of beauty. 80 yards and took up something like 8 minutes. The defense, especially the secondary, played out of their minds today. I still can't believe we shut down Marshall and their running game. If we win 2 out of 3 of our remaining division games and we'll be in the playoffs.
  4. At every opportunity, Soto's taken time to talk extensively about how Blanco mentored him on the art of catching even when Soto was in the minors. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/awards/pa/rookie/nl;_ylt=Ar5QmQcWHBRpYQ.T_wM0WrLavrYF http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081017&content_id=3627473&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080926&content_id=3554084&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Blanco should just mentor everyone in the system. I'm down for a 24 man roster (Blanco can't mentor himself, can he?) and minor league system full of Geovany Sotos.
  5. I'd like to have him signed if the deal is smallish.
  6. I get the MIA/DEN game! \:D/
  7. I can't wait for the regular season to get started and see Rose in action for real! Too bad I had to get rid of my tickets for the game, though (thanks UMFan for taking them off my hands). At least I should be able to catch about half the game.
  8. That's a good point, but their losses were against good teams. The Steelers, Titans, and Jags on the road and the Colts at home. They also had big leads against the Jags and Colts that they blew. They got a pretty tough schedule the rest of the way and will probably end up with 7 or 8 wins only. Their offense has been very impressive the past 5 games though and they have the best WR in the league IMO.
  9. Yeah, they put good drives together, but they haven't been finishing them off lately. Then again, the Broncos can't stop anyone. I think we're going to put up a bunch of points on them. Unfortunately, our pass defense blows and throwing the ball is the Broncos strength. Brandon Marshall is a lock for 150+ yards and at least one TD. Should be a fun game to watch. If we get back to .500, then we're right back in contention. Our (out of division) schedule after the Broncos is ridiculously easy. We really shouldn't lose any of those 5 games (Seahawks, Raiders, Rams, Niners, Chiefs).
  10. If anyone wants to go to the opener on Tuesday I have 2 tickets that I can't use. They are the cheap $10 seats. I paid $36 for them, but would take less if necessary. Send me an offer.
  11. What did Vernon Davis do?
  12. I really hope he can keep it up.
  13. I've been to Notre Dame and Ball State football and basketball games probably upwards of 80 times between them and have yet to lose the excitement out of any of them... I do think 81 Cubs games would probably make it slightly less exciting though. That's because you can't compare going to 80 combined games between 4 teams over your life to going to 81 games of one team in 6 months.
  14. Preseason basketball? Yuck. Wake me up in a week. I agree...but I'll take whatever I can get. I really enjoy watching Rose play. That said, I'm watching more of this random exhibition baseball game than I am Derrick Rose. I miss the Cobs.
  15. what are you guys talking about? baseball has been over for weeks. derrick rose is amazing.
  16. The pen will be fine? You're taking Marmol out of the most valuable role for the team and you're losing Wood. Who'd be the primary set up man? The highly inconsistent Samardzija? Bring back Bob Howry? I wish they were more worried when they were giving Soriano 8 year contracts. My thoughts are that we need a guy. Without Wood, we still need a guy to be at the back end of our bullpen. Regardless of whether you are deploying Marmol as the closer or using him in higher leverage situations that aren't the nineth, the bullpen, without Wood is down one good arm. Now, I think the issue is that the Cubs are concerned as to whether or not Wood is that guy. This is most certainly a defensible position. Wood is a guy a year ago that nearly quit because his shoulder was so screwed up. Then one day, miraculously, it was better. With no rhyme or reason his shoulder didn't hurt anymore. You have to take the position that anything you got from Wood this year was gravy. Hes pitching on borrowed time. Just as easily as his shoulder miraculously one day went from terrible to functional, the opposite can happen. We are fortunate that it didn't happen this year and of course, the more time Wood puts the bum shoulder behind him, the more we can put creedence into the idea that he's healed, but the fact remains that he is one very normal bullpen pitch away from being done and those chances are one thousand fold more for Wood than the average pitcher. Conversely, it all depends on years and money. If Wood is willing to take a discount (which I contended he DID NOT do last offseason), then maybe that risk will be worth it. Additionally, you need to look at who his possible replacements could be and how much they would cost to see if the risk is worth it. Those will ultimately be the questions the cubs will have to ask themselves. I wish I didn't like Woody so much. Then I would just say get rid of him and sign a Juan Cruz type reliever or two for much less.
  17. TT with 5 blocked shots and 5 offensive boards (12 total). If nothing else, this team (mainly Rose and Thomas) should be pretty fun to watch.
  18. it's close and my butt hurts.
  19. Would you give up Soto for Peavy? Say they wanted Soto, Pie, and Theriot for Peavy and Greene. Would you do that?
  20. I'm already regretting it.
  21. Either that or Furcal is a closet Phillies fan. Again, that booing is music to my ears. He even has the sympathy of Shane Victorino, who told Furcal to keep his head up.
  22. http://tickets.shop.ebay.com/items/Event-Tickets__cubs-season-ticket_W0QQ_nkwZcubsQ20seasonQ20ticketQQ_catrefZ1QQ_flnZ1QQ_sacatZ16122QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em282?_trksid=p3286.c0.m282 Anywhere from $9,999 to $24,000 The 24,000 one does include free shipping... Yeah, that free shipping almost has me tempted! But seriously if I had that extra cash I would totally buy one of those packages off Ebay. The only way I would is if it came with a guarantee for playoff and WS tickets. Otherwise, I really have no reason to go to 81 games.
  23. Are you in a 6 team league or something?
