  1. I guess I'll just agree to disagree. That said, Wood was supposedly willing to take that risk to sign with the Cubs for 1 year. To put himself in position to make a multiyear deal possible. Lets use our brains for thinking, folks. What are you talking about? According to KW, he would have taken a 1 year deal for the 2009 MLB season with the Cubs despite having the ability to get a 3 or 4 year deal right now. So what the hell are you talking about?

  3. And that's my point. Why would Wood want to sign a 1 year deal with a team, which could inevitably be the last contract he ever signs, if he can likely get a 3 or 4 year deal for much more. Why would anyone do that? It would be great if he would do that, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Because he doesn't want to uproot his family, likes his teammates, likes the city, etc. I know players don't do that, but I don't really understand why they don't. For example, I'm going after a clinical pharmacist job that will likely pay $20,000-$30,000 less than what I could make if I wanted to work as a community pharmacist. Relating your life to an MLB player, especially in terms of salary, isn't the way to make good points. Why not? I know the circumstances are completely different but I just don't understand why players uproot their families, leave the teammates they've grown close to, and leave the cities they love so that they make $12 MIL per year instead of $9 MIL.

But it's not like he'd make $25 million less by accepting a 1 year offer unless he suffers a career ending injury. In which case he takes the $50 million he's made in his life and uses it to wipe away the tears of regret for not taking that 4 year contract.

  6. Yeah I know. He's made only $50m in his career. Sarah and the kids must really be struggling to put food on the table. Yeah, I forgot that baseball players have no interest in big money and will happily play for free for the right team. Thanks for bringing me back to reality. That's not the point. You said for his family's sake he should be going after a long term deal. That's not true. His family would be fine if he never made another dollar in his life. I think if I was Wood I'd tell the Cubs to give me a 10 year deal making like $5M a year and put mutual options in there every couple years. No player would ever do that though.
  7. we're gonna lose Gordon and get nothing back or have to way overpay. pretty crappy situation to be in.
  8. lol i had a higher opinion of ssr before just now Dammit. I don't have sigs or avatars and I'm watching 3 football games. yeah not having the added benefit of imb's okc thunder avatar and tupac/obama sig definitely hurts
  9. Involving the Red Sox seems unnecessary. The Padres could use a sharp young catcher as well. All they got is Nick Hundley and/or Michael Barrett. Padres get Ramirez, Marshall, Pie, Cedeno, Beavan Cubs get Peavy Rangers get Greene, Veal, and... Screw it I suck at this It has been said that the Pads want young pitching back. That's probably why he involved the Red Sox and Bowden.
  10. That's actually not too bad of a proposal. However, I think if we're willing to deal Vitters then a 3rd (or in your proposal 4th) team would not be necessary. I would think Vitters, Marshall, Cedeno would get it done. If not, then they are expecting way too much for Peavy when they really have no leverage.
  11. Then state it as the deal is: Gregg for Ceda + Wood and a 4 year guaranteed high dollar contract. How about: 1 year of Gregg as closer four first round draft picks $35M to spend elsewhere over 4 years vs Ceda + Wood Does that make anyone feel any better? you stole my exact post. :( Yeah. Honestly, letting Woody go was the right move, as much as that pains me to say. I also think I'd rather have a year of Gregg + 2 draft picks over Ceda. Gregg isn't that bad. As long as we just leave him in the closers role and let Marmol handle the real tough situations, then it's a good move. I'd also think about adding Juan Cruz if it doesn't cost too much (and I'm typically against signing relievers as FAs).
  12. If a mod replies or PM's me within the next few minutes I will gladly share my information with them, in exchange for a simple "I believe him" or "I don't believe him" statement that you guys can then choose to accept or dismiss. Is this too late? do it do it do it
  13. I just can't imagine the Cubs acquiring my 2 favorite pitchers within about a 6 month period. That's just too ridiculous. Hope you're right though Donnie.
  14. I'm going to sleep and not waking up until Peavy is a Cub.
  15. Truth. He's THAT good. It's unbelievable to me how awesome he is so quickly. Question: When they announce the starting lineups why do they say for him "from Chicago" instead of from where he went to school. I don't know if they've been doing that the entire season but I noticed it tonight.
  16. Wooo! Only one game behind the division leaders too! TGJr is looking great. Raiders should obviously be a win, but we better not look ahead to the Patriots and get upset.
  17. It's like $10 or something on yahoo. Really not that expensive.
  18. And once again I'm sucked into the Chicago Cubs. Damn it.
  19. Well you gotta give up something. Samardzija isn't much of a centerpiece. Please get this done!!! 1-2-3 of Peavy, Z, and Harden is just disgusting. If this is done I really, really hope Dempster is NOT brought back. That money is better spent elsewhere. Unless Marshall is also included in the deal, then I'd probably look to bring back Dempster. Well even if it's Samardzija and Marshall we still have Gaudin, Guzman, and possibly though unlikely Hill for fill in starters. I agree just let Dempster walk take the picks, it would help weaken the blow of trading for Peavy by being able to recoup 2 extra draft picks next year. Plus if Samaradzija is included he does have a higher contract than normal and though it isn't huge it certainly helps to shave some salary and may allow for an extra sign/trade elsewhere. If the Shark and Marshall are gone we'd have to keep Marquis around this year as the 5th starter and then rely on Gaudin to be the backup SP (which we all know we will need). You can't rely at all on Guzman or Hill unfortunately. I hope we can find a way to not include Marshall. While it's always important to have good options for backup starters it shouldn't hold Jim back to give up both Marshall and Samardzija if that is what it is going to take. I think we can/could rely on Guzman if needed to start a few games along with Gaudin. Marquis would need to stay as you said and that is fine he is a above aver 5th starter. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it. Hell I'd give them Marshall, Samardzija, Guzman and Gaudin. I'm just saying that there are big health concerns with our starting rotation and if we could give up prospects like Ceda, Veal, and Hart (I don't know why they even appear to be interested in him) along with Pie and Samardzija, then I'd much rather do that.
  20. I agree I think he could win 12-15 games pitching half his games there. With that offense, or lack of offense, I'm not sure about that. Maybe 12. But wins don't mean anything...he'd likely give up a relatively small amount of runs pitching half his games there. He's a very good pitcher even without that park.

  22. Whaaaa? We should be thrilled if Samardzija was the centerpiece of a trade. That's robbery While it wouldn't be ideal to give Samardzija up, if he was what was stopping a trade from getting done then you have to include him. Marshall, Samardzija, Pie, Cedeno and possibly a lower level prospect would be a pretty good and fair deal IMHO. COME ON JIMBO!!! :yahoo: Anyone with any idea what the "limited" trade clause is are the Padres one of the teams listed or not for Shark? That is a lot to give up. Not to say I wouldn't do it, but that is a lot.
