  1. I'm much more worried about his sucking at the age of 31 relative to that deal. Maybe he will. But on the other hand, maybe this is a sign that he's learned his lesson relative to guys that seem to have an injury bug following them around re: JD Drew. Soriano and Drew were the two guys that gave us the best chance to win now, and getting one of them would be a great accomplishment. So you are ignoring Sori's 2004 and 2005 seasons, yet harping on Drew's injuries from 4+ years ago? If Sori does not reproduce his 06 season then he isn't going to give us the best chance to win now, definitely not as good as if Drew reproduces his 2006, 2005, 2004, etc. And you are ignoring Soriano's 2003 and 2002 stats. He still couldn't get on base then either. just because he doesnt get on base too good, doesn't make him a bad player. I think they are paying him too much (and I would have prefered Drew) but Soriano is a good player. He helps your team score runs, which is the ultimate goal in baseball.
  2. I'm not being sarcastic. He isn't worth 8 figures. Hell most players in baseball are not worth their contracts. He is overpaid, and probably overrated, but still, match him up with Lee, and Aram...and we have some major thunder in the lineup now. No, he's not major thunder, that's the point. For crying out loud, Barrett is probably just as good if not better offensively after they both regress from their career years. One more time: Soriano 2004: .280 .324 .484 .808 2005: .268 .309 .512 .821 2006: .277 .351 .560 .911 Why leave out 03 and 02?

  4. I think that the Braves are actually giving up quite a bit. Marcus Giles had a bad year last year. He also gets injured quite often. Salty is a good prospect, but useless for the Braves except as a trading chip. Horacio Ramirez is also another injury prone player. He has some potential, but doing that trade from the Braves perspective is a no brainer.
  5. The only way the "set to sign" part is true, is if Drew really wants to be in Boston. I'm pretty sure if he waits, someone (hopefully the Cubs) will offer him more than that.
  6. Per the Philadelphia Daily News     :x :x :x :x :x
  7. This is a good trade. If we did this trade after the 05 season, everyone would be laughing at how we ripped the White Sox off. Cotts had a good first half, but lost it in the 2nd half. I'm not really sure why. I know a lot of Sox fans were hard on him, kind of like their LaTroy Hawkins. Maybe that affected his confidence or something. Either way, I expect that he will either be given a chance to start or Ohman/Eyre is on their way out for a pitcher like Jake Westbrook.
  8. This is practically my ideal situation. I'd also like to see Izturis and Dempster traded for anything. Lugo possibly signed for SS too, if there's money left. I like Theriot, but I just don't see him continuing his success. Yeah, I dont think Theriot will continue to have numbers like this year, but I think he could definitely be a .270/.340 hitter. And with that lineup we could easily get away with that from the 8 spot. But getting rid of Izturis and signing Lugo would be better if we have the money. My lineup was already pretty unrealistic so I decided not to add Lugo to it. I don't think its too unrealistic money-wise. I think we can definitely fit it in if were able to trade Izturis, JJ, and Dempster without paying any of their contracts. I agree though. I doubt we get Soriano and Drew. That would be insane though.

  10. All things considered, I'd rather have Murton. He'll cost MUCH MUCH less and he's much younger. I don't see why you couldn't have both though. Murton's OBP in his first 2 years is .370. Very solid. In case you didn't look it up, he hit .319/.390/.522 (.911 OPS) after the all star break. Please explain how Pierre had a solid year? Since when is a .330 OBP (especially for a leadoff hitter) and a .717 OPS "solid"? JJ had a good year last year, but Murton's was better. I believe people give Murton a little more slack because he's young. Young players are often very inconsistent. And just so you know, Soriano's career OPS is only .004 points higher than Murton's. Murton is only going to get better and Soriano is only going to get worse.
  11. I don't know much about Huseby. Anyone care to give me some info on him?
  12. I guarantee that tomorrow will be colder than it was last Thursday in Chicago.
  13. Ok, first of all, major league baseball teams pay different players different amounts of money. I know, I know, you're thinking, "but they're all baseball players, shouldnt they get paid the same?" But it doesnt work that way. Matt Murton makes at or close to the league minimum and gives great production for that money and is likely to only get better. Drew has always had an amazing OBP, the thing this team needs the most. I have never seen anyone on here that would not want ARod if he did not cost half our farm system or Zambrano. Same with Manny. Vernon Wells and Soriano, I dont know anyone who wouldnt want them on the team, but it goes back to the fact that different players get paid different amounts of money. And in Wells' case, we would have to give up a lot of talent. Some people wonder if they are worth the money/talent. But Murton does have red hair, you're correct there, keep up the good work. That made me
  14. Considering we refer to physical chemistry as p chem, it would make sense to call it o chem. Oh well, we're weird.
  15. Yeah that's just plain wrong. Haha, I don't know where to begin. Well I'll try. The reason JD Drew is more appealing than ARod and ManRam is because he won't cost nearly as much in money or in players. You cant just make the Yankees trade you ARod for Jacque Jones. You'd have to give up Zambrano or some package that blows them away. Besides, ARod says he doesn't want to be traded. Same goes for Manny. Soriano and Wells aren't nearly as good as Drew. Look up the stats. Soriano will also cost more than Drew and to get Wells we would need to once again trade players. Plus, he'll be a FA next year and he'll command big money. Drew has been relatively healthy the past 3 years and he still outproduces most outifielders when playing in fewer games. As for Matt Murton...look up his second half stats. You might be surprised by how good they were. He's going to provide solid production at minimal cost. He's also very young (25) and is going to continue to develop into a VERY good player.
  16. Good lord me too. It's hell on my schoolwork, especially with the ginormous essay I have due tomorrow. :? Its 2:30 and I still can't stop thinking about JD Drew in a Cubs uniform. I really should be studying for this orgo test tomorrow.
  17. Where's the option for Mark DeRosa? He doesn't deserve to be an "other"!
  18. Good lineup, but there's really no reason to keep Izturis. I'm fairly certain you could move him for a minor leaguer and then sign Lugo to a contract not much larger than Izturis's. In that case, I'd hope Soriano would accept hitting 6th so that Lugo can lead off. Lugo Murton Lee Drew Ramirez Soriano Barrett Lugo DeRosa wow... If Soriano NEEDS to leadoff then let him, put Lugo 2nd and move Murton down to 6th or 7th.
  19. http://www.juneauempire.com/images/100602/crow.jpg You'll eat it? I was thinking more along the lines of sending me $10 or somethin.
  20. So what happens if he doesn't sign anyone by Friday?
  21. I don't think instant replay is necessary.
