  1. Angel Guzman could easily be the player whose injury history Jim Hendry was upfront about. I dont know about moving DeRosa. The main focus of the off season was supposed to be offense. Pitching wasnt even really on the radar until Paevy entered the picture. If we do end up moving DeRosa in such a deal, I hope theres a real possibility that we can get someone like Bradley or Abreu as well.
  2. Angel Guzman could easily be the player whose injury history Jim Hendry was upfront about. Guzmans inury history shouldnt be a secret to anyone.
  3. It's pretty clear nobody really knows what is going on with the ownership stuff, some reports say a Peavy trade has to be approved by a new owner and others say the sale has no influence on whether or not Peavy is traded, so I am going to take all reports on the sale affecting Peavy as a moot point, but the Phillies part is interesting. When it first came out a month or so ago about a third team I thought the Phillies might be a fit with Utley out for some time, Fontenot/Cedeno might be interesting targets for the Phillies to replace Utley, the Pads/Cubs could maybe send another prospect to the Phillies and they Phillies could then send Kendrick or Happ to the Padres to add in the pitching that is desired on their part. Isnt that conflicting with the report that they need him delt by Thursday? We all know that the ownership situation wont be done by then. Then again, there was no way that the Zambrano extension would happen before we had a new owner.
  4. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/12/cubs-keep-pitch.html Meaning I will be glued to NSBB all night. 6:30PM $15 and change for a full tank of gas 7:30PM How I Met Your Mother 8:00PM Heroes 9:00PM Peavy trade announced What started out as a run of the mill Monday could turn out to be awesome.
  5. Actually it was Lou Piniella, and its wasn't "Suck it Lou" it was like "I wish Lou was here to see this" or something like that. I'd probably hate Lou Piniella if I was Scott Eyre too. Yeah. Damn him for trading Eyre to a team that won the World Series. Damn him straight to hell! Yes, because we all know that the reason they traded him was so he could win the World Series with another team It was a sucky thing to do, but business is business. Eyre was the odd man out. Cotts and Marshall were his lefties out of the pen, both of whom had futures with the team. Eyre would have been gone after the season.
  6. A. Aurilia=not that good B. Aurilia=old C. Aurilia D. If we did end up trading Marquis, Aurilia would probably cost whatever money we saved by trading him, thus defeating the purpose.
  7. By the sound of it, A. We have what the Pads want, be it by oursleves or with a second team, so JH just needs to give it to them, unless its Soto. With the kind or rotaion wed have with P/Z/H/L/D, we could afford to slap togethe the right side of the outfield between Johnson/Fuku/DeRosa/Hoffpauir. B. Peavys being a pain in the Howry hole about this. He demands a trade, but will only accept it to 2 teams.
  8. It sounds like things are pretty serious, but I wouldnt expect a done deal for a little while.
  9. Heres why we arent moving Marquis: Because we need to for the salary space, and every GM out there knows that if they want him , they can get him for virtually nothing, just a low level prospect and take on a chunk of the salary. Meanwhile, Hendry is asking for something in return, other than the salary relief. JH needs to realise that he will not get a quality player in return for Marquis, simply because of the fact that the other GMs know that they'll be doing him a favor by taking him off his hands.
  10. Ronny is in aleague with the likes of Don Mattingly, Andre Dawson, and Dave Parker among others who are teetering on the border.
  11. If were going to sign a guy pushing 40, Id just assume take Edmonds, who would at least fill a need.
  12. The only one of those guys who Id miss would be Vitters, and even with him, you never know what he'll be, or when he'll be it. Sure, I like Marshall, but 3-4 years of Peavy will more than make up for him. Maybe Rich Hill will come back and take his place. or not. probably not.
  13. Meh that's a bunch of BS IMO. Towers said yesterday that he planned on meeting with Hendry today and said that they would talk to the othe teams in the 3 way, so I doubt that's already been done and completed by 1:10. This same thing has been going on since day one. one day its on, next day its off. Im sure tommorow, it will almost be a done deal, and then Tuesday, all talks will be off, and Wednesday, the discussions will still be going on.
  14. I don't know about that. CC's contract could cripple the flexibility of a small-market team for many years. I'd never tie up that much cash into a player that's one pitch away from uselessness if I were the GM of Milwaukee. Especially when you have guys like Fielder, Hardy, and Weeks who will be FAs in the next few years, and all of the sudden they're left either replacing them from within or with cheap alternatives. Perhaps they can learn from the Padres that you need more than 1 ace and a few quality bats to put a team togther.
  15. I think its pretty safe to say he'l be living comfortably in either city.
  16. Has Theriot even been mentioned in the trade talks? I know on this board he has quite a bit, if Hendry did offer him up, he would fit in well with the Padres in a field like PetCo. Obviously it wont get the deal done alone, but he should be a lot more attractive than Cedeno.
  17. When you're dealing with that kind of money, you're really not oing to notice it that much. He wont anyway. His agent on the other hand... As for playing for the Yankees, its a high pressure situation, and if you dont perform, you're going to hear about it, more so than any other team. Especially when they put that kind of money in it. Some guys prefer the small market team, be the big fish in a small pond so to speak.
  18. If this much is true, the Brewers could have a decent shot. Its clear at this point that if CC wanted to play for the Yanks, hed have signed by now, as nobody will match that offer. I know that the reason hes taking so long is that hes waiting for one of the Cali teams to match the offer, or at least come close, but if they dont, he could choose Milwaukee, as he enjoyed his time their, and was treated like royalty, where as with the Yankees, as soon as he has one non quality start he'll be booed out of town, and he could take a $30 million bath to be in a lower pressure environment, as long as the players union and his agent dont intervene. If this does happen, we need to step it up for Peavy.
  19. If Hank wants a job, he'll get one. hes still one of the best backup catchers in the game offensively, and defensively hes one of the best period. However, the way the Cubs financial situation is in limbo, Im thinking Koyie Hill or another cheaper option could be the way to go.
  20. So there we have it, Jason Marquis is the Screech of the Cubs. Sure, hes somewhat of an outcast, and people mess with him, but the cool kids still like him and hang out with him.
  21. This is just so annoying. 1 day its off, 1 day its on. I wish there was a way for me to just get the thought of it out of my head. Its going to drive me insane.
  22. Did they learn nothing about over the hill relievers last year?
  23. Dont quite see the point. Hes a quality reliever, who can spot start, plus hes only like 25 years old. I say keep the guy/
  24. Interesting, last I checked, they Pads were moving Peavy becasue he wanted no part of a rebuilding team, not because of salary issues.
  25. As of now, we really dont need another starting pitcher. If we can get Peavy, thats not the kind of opportunity that you pass up, but if not, move on, and focus on something else, namely a LH bat for the outfield. Zambrano Harden Lilly Dempster Marshall/Marquis is more than sufficient, and far superior to any other rotation in the division, and one of the best in the league. Peavy Zambrano Harden Lilly Dempster would be legen....wait for it...dary, but if not, theres really no use using our resources for a second tier pitcher, especially when our resources are limited, and we have bigger needs.
