  1. I dont know about the rest of you, but when this is all said and done, and Peavy is still on the Padres, I'll never want to hear the words Peavy or Towers again.
  2. Maybe Jon Lieber wants another go. or Kevin Tapani if we really want to travel far enough down that road.
  3. So will the official announcement be made this week, or do they want to wait until the convention?
  4. Jake Peavy, if not, Sean Marshall Angel Guzman
  5. Berras way too old to play for most teams, and the White Sox already have a catcher.
  6. Sean Gallagher is a table scrap? Considering what you usually have to give up to get an ace caliber pitcher via trade, yes.
  7. So they save $4.875 on this one, but are down one starter and up one more mediocre reliever. Exactly. Marquis has never been lights out, but I have a feeling fans will regret this trade later this season. I am going to wait to see who the 5th starter is and how he does before I will see if I may regret the trade. It's not the fifth starter I'm worried about. It's the sixth starter when Harden gets hurt that worries me. I really think we need one more good (to great) starter. Would be nice. I'm not sure finding a 5th starter to eat innings needs to be all that difficult though. I think Sean is fine in the #6 role if we can keep him there. For the most part, Marquis was never as bad as he was made out to be. He was certainly one of the better #5 starters in the league, but I really can't imagine any scenerio in which we regret this trade.
  8. Are you effing kidding me? What a stupid comment. Spoiled? The occasional division championships is by no means spoiling fans. Maybe "spoiled" wasn't quite the right word, though some people around here sure come across that way at times. I totally stand by the "neediest" comment, though. Uh, yeah, spoiled was wrong. Neediest? Well maybe that's because they've never seen a championship. Seriously, Yankees fans are far more spoiled and needy. They bitch when they don't get 5 all star free agents an offseason. Mets fans are more needy and spoiled. Red Sox fans are far more spoiled, and the only reason they aren't as needy is because they've won recently. But listen to Red Sox fans when they miss out on a free agent to the Yankees. Seriously, that was a horribly ridiculous accusation. Its different for Cubs fans vs. Yankees or Red Sox fans. In their cae, when your so used to greatness every year, mediocrity wont do. For us though, we've never seen a World Series win, in most of our cases, a World Series in general but we've come so damn close, its gone from saddening to maddening. The Yankees and Red Sox will always be able to buy whatever they need, but for the Cubs, we dont know how much longer the window will be open.
  9. If it were up to me: 1. 1B-Lee 2. 2B-Fontenot 3. SS-Theriot 4. 3B-Ramirez 5. LF-Soriano 6. CF-Fukudome 7. RF-Bradley 8. C-Soto 9. Bench-Bako 10. Bench-Cedeno 11. Bench-Miles 12. bench-Johnson 13. Bench-Gathright 14. Bench-Hoffpauir 15. SP-Zambrano 16. SP-Harden 17. SP-Lilly 18. SP-Dempster 19. SP-Marshall 20. BP-Marmol 21. BP-Gregg 22. BP-Gaudin 23. BP-Beimal 24/25 BP 2 of-Vizcaino/Guzman/Wuertz -Sign Joe Beimal, give Mrashall the 5th rotation spot -Keep Samardjia if Iowa as a starter as Harden insurance. If Hoffpauir does anything close to what he did last spring, theres no reason for him not to land that 25th spot, especially since we wont have any power on the bench otherwise. Id prefer Pie over Gathright, but its not at all realistic to assume he'll be on the team However, the more likelly scenerio is that We aquire a starter as a FA, or some kind of trade involving Pie. Marshall gets a BP spot, and 1 of Vizcaino/Guzman/Wuertz get the last spot, unless Lou opts for an extra pitcher and Hoff gets the shaft again, leaving 0 power on the bench.
  10. God save the any ump soul who is brave enough to make a bad call to which both Lou and Milton are furious about. May as well unleash Zambrano on em too just for good measures Im guessing thats some kind of inside joke from his Indians days? I dont know about Cleveland, but around here, Hungry Hungry Hippos don't grow on trees.
  11. I just hope these are guys who want the team because the love it and they want to be winners for years to come, not one of those investment groups who want to spend as little money possible and let the team sink to the bottom of the heap.
  12. Is hendry pretty much done after Bradley/Marquis? Is another SP after the ownership situation is resolved unrealistic? The Peavy thing, from what I've been told, probably can't happen until the ownership situation is resolved. However, Hendry will try to add a starting pitcher not named Peavy before spring training opens. So are you saying that Peavy is no longer an option, or are you saying that until the ownership situation is resolved, Hendry will try to find someone else for SP? Peavy is not an option for now. The ownership situation will have to be resolved first. Hendry has had no serious talks with SD lately, but he will continue keeping an eye on the situation. Until then, I fully expect the Cubs to obtain another starting pitcher. Wouldnt it be cheaper to just go out and sign Joe Beimal if they really dont trust Cotts as the only lefty in the pen, and give Sean Marshall the 5th rotation spot that he spent the last 2 years earning, meanwhile, keep Samardzjia loose as a starter in Iowa for insurance if/when Harden gets injured, or needs a break?
  13. This thread ends one of 2 ways: 1. The usual suspects come in and tear it to shreds before Outshined One locks it 2. Outshined One locks it before the chaos begins
  14. Whats he hitting, leadoff? Youd think hed have more RBI with those kind of numbers.

It would be like...awesome. I agree, for the week or so, that be some freak occurance that they both end up healthy at the same time. He had about 200 IP last year If we did have Sheets, hed have to be one of those guys you pull after 6 innings or so no matter how hes doing. Yost did go nuts with him, knowing his history.
  16. If he really were that cheap, I suppose it would be sweet to have them alternate starts, each getting a week or so off, of course then your essentially giving up a roster spot, and thats never a good idea.

My bet is that if Peavy were to become a Cub, it would be closer to July than January.

  20. In a perfect world, Bradley stays healthy and Fukudome re-adjusts to the majors. That would be a beautiful thing.

However, Hendry will try to add a starting pitcher not named Peavy before spring training opens. I doubt that Lowe will be affordable, especially since hes reportedly seeking 16 mil/year. Is there anyone else left who could be even considered an upgrade over Marquis? Why not just give Marshall the last spot and give Rich Hill a look see as a loogy?
  22. Hopefully soon or right after the Marquis deal becomes offical. I think clearing his salary is holding up the Bradley signing. I dont get whats holding it back. Last I heard, Marquis was out of town, but it's not like he has a NTC, or at least I hope he wouldnt. Why not just pack up his locker, ship it to Denver, and be done with it?
  23. I wouldnt be surprised if the Pads took another gamble with a minor league deal. That teams in shambles anyway, whats the worst that could happen?
