  1. Kendall-pinch hitter-Weeks-Counsell/pinch hitter. Come on Gregg, you can do this.
  2. Now that its not a save, does Gregg stay in? I know good closers oftn have trouble in non save situations. Hopefully the opposite is true for bad closers
  3. If Jimmy didnt want to play hed have filled out his retirement papers by now. He was looking for a team during ST, I dont know why hed change his mind now. Still, hes not going to be ready to go just yet as hes had no spring training. It will come down to Fox or Fuld depending if Lou prefers a better bat or a capable defensive player.
  4. Theres little doub inmy mind that Marmol will one day be one of the elite closers in baseball. I just hope hes still a Cub when it happens.
  5. Ive never heard Morgan and Miller go ga ga over a Cubs player like they are about Marmol.
  6. Hopefully Carlos can go 1-2-3 and leave Gregg with the scraps. Id hate to see Gregg vs. Braun and Fielder with the game on the line.
  7. Runners at the corners 1 out Derrek Lee to the plate. Any question where this is going?
  8. beautiful inning by the lanky left hander. I see no reason not to send him out for the 8th, but Im sure Lou has a greater plan that will blow up in his face.
  9. So would the chances of our pen not making the tail end of this game a thrill ride be more slim or nil?
  10. There have been better home run robs...but unlike a lot of supposeded robbings of HRs, this one was clearly over the fence and brought back. Then you also have to consider the situation, the fact that it was going to be a grand slam, and the fact that it would have tied the game. It was a pretty fantastic catch. According to Ron, the look on Fielders face made it all the better.
  11. Anyone have a video of the Johnson catch? I was listening on the radio until now, and they made it sound like the greatest play ever.
  12. It is a groin strain. I was listening on the radio. Jake Fox, your table is ready. If its more than a 15 day minimum DL stint, Id say bring Back Jimmy Edmonds, and ditch Gathright when Bradley come sback, but Jim will need an extended spring training+some time in Iowa for conditioning, so if Milton wouldnt be out loing, there woukd be little point in that move.
  13. Last year I called it and was mercilously attacked for it. Kosukes strategy was when he was down to strike 2, hed try to foul off every pitch until he got something he could hit or coax a walk. It didnt take the league long to figure it out that once he was in his foul everything off grove, just throw something out of his rach and hed go after it with a massive Fukucopter. He doesnt seem to be doing it this time around. Hes being more agressive earlier in the count when he sees something he likes he jumops on it. Obviously, Kosuke looked this good early last season, so we'll se where he takes it this time around.
  14. If they are in contention in a close race come July, Melvin would likely change his tune. The question is, are they expecting to lose Fielder, Hardy, and Weeks in the next few years and build around Braun, Hart, Gamel, and Escobar, or are they going to try to keep their current window open and try to resign at least to of F/H/W. If they are in that second frame of mind, I could see them going after Peavy.
  15. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-12-cubs-brite-chicago-apr12,0,2712558.story Speculation that the Brewers could rear their ugly heads again for Peavy. Would Peavy waive his clause to go there though is the question? And what would the Brewers have to give up? probably more than they did for Sabbathia, as Peavy is more than a rent a player. They could end up giving up Gamel, Escobar, and Parra. Then the next few years, what would they do about Hardy and Fielder? I really cant imagine either of them in the Brewers future.
  16. drink everytime a name is comically misread or mispronounced
  17. Perhaps it's time for that joke to die ? Or not. http://www.watchdigest.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/254312inpm_w.jpg
  18. Between Hart, Fox, Samardzia, Ascanio, and hopefully Papelbon, we have the pieces in the system, and they'll probably give some of these guys a shot before looking elsewhere, unless of course theres a mass exodus to San Diego.
  19. How much longer is he under contract? Through 2010.
  20. I dont understand why they refuse to give Papelbon a shot at Iowa to see what hes made of. Maybe he could be that loogy we're missing. Hes a career 15-7 with a 2.68 ERA and a 1.147 WHIP in 3 years in A-AA. At the age of 26 which is in his late 40's-early 50's in prospect years, theres no reason not to make that move. ETA-Just for fun, I took a look at his big brothers minor league stats. He also spent 3 years in the minors, skipping from AA to the big leagues. 19-13 3.05 ERA 1.075 WHIP.
  21. -If Jake Fox keeps it up, he could earn himself a roster spot over the expendable Gathright. We already have an above average 4th outfielder in Johnson, so I wouldnt mind another righty bat on the bench. -Papelbon has looked good the past few years. Im thinking its time to at least bump him up to Iowa and see what hes really made of, as the big league club could really use a solid loogy.
  22. Also, while I wont argue with TLR as manager, Ozzie should at least be on his coaching staff.
