  1. both play baseball both wear uniforms both have 25 players both play in the midwest both have a guy named Ryan on the team
  2. 2003 style. I am still trying to figure out which one is Mark Guthrie and which one is Dave Veres. Cotts=Guthrie Vizcaino=Veres Gregg=Alfonseca
  3. Fontenot has 39 PA's and has a .775 OPS with a .385 OBP(numbers rounded cause I closed the calculator window) Bradley has had 25 PA's. Soto has had 15 PA'S. We haven't even played 10 games yet. I agree. What I said was, people that came into the season worried about regressions for those players haven't seen anything so far to calm their fears. My whole post was based on a premise that its way too early to worry, but these are trends I'm seeing. If the Cubs played these 10 games in July, no one would make a big deal out of any of this. Through Soriano's first 86 PA's last year in 18 games, he had a line of .177/.233/.316/.549. From that point on, in 417 PA's through the end of the year, he put up a line of .302/.367/.578/.944. His next 11 games after the first 18 (during which people were surely complaining about him daily), he had an OPS of 1.639. In Lilly's first four starts he had an ERA of 9.16 and a WHIP of 1.71 in 18 2/3 IP. The rest of the year he had an ERA of 3.58 and a WHIP of 1.18 in 186 IP. Soto's OPS is .282 right now. If he comes out tomorrow and goes 3-4 with two singles and a homer, it will go up to .833. You've got to give these guys at least a month to work things out - Soriano needed almost 20 games last year before he finally started hitting. Agreed. I'm not worried about any of the guy's who have track records, even if it's one year like for Geo. I don't trust these bullpen guys besides Marmol, though. None of them have really accomplished anything. Gregg was decent for a while but he's been absolute garbage. He's picked up the gas-can baton left behind by Howry. When you have a hitter like Geo in the 7 spot, you really cant expect him to get much to hit with Theriot or Miles and the pitcher spot due after him.
  4. But he took a walk, so all is well in the Tyler Colvin world.
  5. The difference being, the 2008 Mets weaknesses didnt rear their heads until toward the end of the season when it was too late. We're already seing weaknesses in our pen, and if they continue for the next month or so, the situation can be rectified.
  6. The only thing we might need is a solid backup middle infielder/platoon 2 bagger, and Ronnie Belliard would fit the bill perfectly. I highly doubt that the Nats would ask for too much in return. Other than that, were set. If a starter goes down, or Peavy ends up being waved in ur face again, then it would be hard to say no to that, otherwise, I have no problem with our rotation. If we could get a better loogy, that would be super too. Again, The Nats could have the answer in Joe Beimal. I dont know why Hendry didnt think about him to begin with when he was avalable at a bargain basement price.
  7. Guzman is about the best bullpen guy we have right now outside of Marmol I keep hearing that, but at some point the man should, you know, get some people out without giving up hits and walks. As should, you know, everybody else in our bullpen outside of Marmol. Our bullpen options right now are garbage plain and simple I, for one, would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim Hendry for assembling the best bullpen ever. =D> =D> =D> All of our relievers have their little shortcomings Heilman-he sucks Patton-he sucks Guzman-he sucks Cotts-he really sucks Marmol-theres only one of him Vizcaino-he sucks Gregg-he sucks
  8. With the state of todays economy, its a travesty that someone would spend 5 million dollars on a product as inferior as Aaron Miles.
  9. You can blame a reliver who has no business in the major leagues and a crappy ump all you want, but when your supposed best hitters come to the plate with the bases loaded and 1 out, and get nothing out of it, you're not going to win a lot of games.
  10. I this team wins the World Series for us, I say retire the whole lot of em. from Ramirez and Zambrano all the down to Miles and Cotts.
  11. Absolutely not true. The three pitchers who are interesting who started today all did well. Maestri also had a good outing. It wasn't a good day for the hitters, but it was a pretty nice day for pitching. And Colvin has turned once again back into the person he was for the first few months last year, and this year's version is even more patient so far than last year. Hopefully this time he can integrate the two parts of his game together and start getting some XBH to go with his walks. I was just trying to put Jake Fox over. Its a shame that we have wastes of space like Joey Gathrigth and Aaron Miles on the big league roster and hes rotting away in the cornfields. I understand that since Miles was given a 2 year deal for some ungodly reason, he wont be going anywhere, but Gathright is quite expendanble, and Fox and Hoffpauir would be like a younger, not quite as injury prone Cliff Floyd and Daryl Ward.
  12. Not a great day for the Cubs organization as a whole unless your name is Jake Fox. And Tyler Colvin moves another step close to Luis Montanez/Ryan Harvey territory.
  13. Cedeno is garbage with an upside. Miles is just plain garbage. Upside? Yeah right. I thought the kid had potential but he's proven to be a miserable hitter. I hate Miles but I'm also glad Cedeno is gone. If we have to have a worhtless player on the team, Id just assume he be making league minumum and not on a 2 year 5 million dollar deal.
  14. Surely the Nats would be willing to part with Ronnie Belliard. Angel Berroa would be a nice plan B.
  15. Hes always been good until the 5th or 6th when he collpases.
  16. Just have to wait it out until the 5th or 6th when Marquis traditionally falls apart.
  17. When I opened this thread I was thinking Delmon Young and thought it was a pretty good pick up. Still, Delwyn is a pretty decent bench player.
  18. There really arent a lot of pitchers in the league Id rather have on the mound than a fully healthy and effective Rich Harden.
  19. A billion dollars is a lot of money.
  20. What if Tampax were to make a Billion dollar bid for the naming rights?
  21. I wonder if Jeff Samardjzia would be enoug of a deal breaker with Vitters and Marshall to get this thing done. I know Shark has that NTC, but would he be willing to waive it if the Pads promised to start him off on the big league team and maybe even a shot at the rotation?
