  1. James Shields is guaranteed $21MM per year in 2016-2018 and he'll be 35 years old by opening day 2017. He could have the greatest season in modern baseball history in 2016 and would be a fool to opt out.
  2. Anyone been tracking Carlos Gonzalez lately? Past 30: .327/.360/.692. Past 15: .421/.459/.930. I know this would be the very definition of buying high. But maybe we should look into buying high.
  3. The Rockies scored 10 runs in the 3rd inning yesterday. We scored 8 runs vs. the Phillies over the weekend. And Carlos Gonzalez has been absolutely out of his mind the past month.
  4. I know that after his last start it was said that the leg was still nagging him a bit.
  5. Hardly in love with the guy. Just figured that flipping him for Olt would be...I don't know. A thing that could happen.
  6. Kimbrel would be a wonderful acquisition. I still like the idea of getting Upton, too, but that probably won't happen. Kimbrel seems like a plausible target, though. I still like the idea of Kemp. He's owed 87,000,000 over the next 4 years, but the Dodgers are paying 14,000,000. I'd be willing to take on about 50,000,000 of the remaining 73,000,000 if the Padres would take a lesser prospect package: We Get: Kemp Kennedy Maybe Casey Kelly: somehow, he's only 25, so why not. They Get: -Villanuva or Mendy -Edwards -Some combination of Rule 5 eligibles (2-3 of Candelario, Paniagua, Torrez, Pineyro, Martinez, Jensen, Francescan, Bruno, Jeff Baez) Salary Relief Maybe Olt if they want.
  7. this is WSR-levels bad I wouldn't have Castro and Gleyber. And I'd probably ask them to throw in something stupid like Dom Brown, just for shits and giggles.
  8. Why would they banned instead of the meatballs? With the over the top madness that's been the past 3 gamethreads, I would have expected you them to be all over it like a pack of vicious, gif happy jackals.
  9. Nah, you like him. I believe the phrase we're looking for is a "happy in-between."
  10. The Cubs are playing the worst baseball of the year. They're a chore to watch. They've fallen to 2 games behind for the 2nd Wild Card in a single weekend. And they don't appear to be getting any better. This being said, they're still only 2 games out of a playoff spot with over 2 months to play. If anything, we should be more aggressive as buyers, because October is very much within reach. And I don't want to head any of the "it wasn't supposed to be our year anyway" nonsense. We're in contention. Let's contend.
  11. He's a [expletive] 21 year old rookie! And Starlin's a 25 year old, 3 time all star with a career line of .284/.325/.410. So maybe we shut the [expletive] up and give them both the benefit of the doubt.
  12. FWIW, MLB.com's fantasy projections have Castro hitting .276/.317/.400 the rest of the way. Don't ask me how they come up with that though.
  13. Are certain posters on timeout? Those who would be feverishly lashing out at the weekend's meatballery? Just curious.
  14. Carlos Gomez is not in the Brewers lineup. Knowing him, he could be nursing a sore who knows what. But then again, maybe not.
  15. Yes, this is rock bottom. And I suppose if you have to hit it, this would be a good time; still right in the race with plenty of time to right the ship.
  16. Jeebus F. Crikies, we're getting swept by Lou Brown's Clevleland Indians just to spite their bitch owner.
  17. That doesn't make any sense? Doing what exactly? I'd take our team over the next 10 years over theirs I bet Astros' fans would take their team over the next 10 years than ours. The vague future of unending awesomeness as some magical trump card in all franchise comparisons is as tiresome as [insert whatever you find really tiresome, me included]. Vague future? We're 5 games over .500 and we're in year one. It's called take what we have, which is a lot, and build off it. And we have the resources to do it. We're not in a position to sell anything, but on the other side of that coin, I wouldn't go overboard for a rental, no matter how shiny. If we see the right fit for a deadline trade, we make it. If not, we don't. And there's a hell of a free agent class coming up, and we should be major players for a lot of these guys. And I can assure you that a lot of them are going to be attracted to go what we're putting together here. Short answer: #wearegoodbutnotyetgreat
  18. Super gay? Yeah, someone should probably lock this thread before a ginormous can of worms opens up and consumes us all.
  19. This team has been not at all fun since June. They've been doing a lot of things wrong and appear to be running out of gas. During this stretch, which has felt like an early death march, their record is a putrid 25-23. It feels good to care again, doesn't it? Then again, it kind of doesn't.
  20. Gleybar Torres 3-4 with a double. So that's kind of like a baby aspirin to take the edge off a spinal tap.
  21. It's funny because you are one of only two posters I have on ignore, but I always get curious and click on it anyway. Not that you'll see this. *shrug* Truffle's way of "ignoring" people is not unlike that of my 5 year old.
  22. No. We're going to win 21-3 and then score 5 runs over the course of the next 2 weeks.
