  1. They already have 5 outfielders in Iowa......what roster need was he filling?Maybe Scales. He was called up today to fill Zambrano's roster spot until Wells is called up for Friday's game. I'd think Scales would go back down then. I would think there is at least a chance that Gathwright is the one who leaves on Friday. I can't believe they went a month without a 2nd backup middle infielder. And now that their only 3 guys have played for like 2 weeks straight I would think Lou would tire of the situation. Definitey. If all Lou wanted was an extra bat until friday, it would have been Fox called up.
  2. The theme of the game will be more Gathright vs. Scales than Cubs vs. Giants.
  3. The sad but funny thing is that it still looks better than the Giants regular lineup.
  4. I hpe Ramirez is OK. I know its normal to rest your starters, but when its a guy who had over a week of rest, it puts up a red flag. On the plus side, we'll have one hell of a bench.
  5. If your refering to Cubbiebum, it is both frightening and seizure inducing.
  6. Wrong sterotype dumb arse(not the poster, the guy in the shirt). May as well have one that says Fukudome runs my Korean grocery store.
  7. That's exactly what it means. Since Wells won't pitch until Friday he doesn't need to be called up before then and basically waste a roster spot for a few days. So they decided to go with an extra position player until then, and on Friday someone (probably Scales or Gathright) will go to make room for Wells on the roster. Hopefully, they'll at least give Scales a chance to prove that he can do the job.
  8. Colvin went 4-5 with 2 doubles. Good for him.
  9. He should be lucky it wasnt at Wrigley, or he might not be amongst the living.
  10. There are only 2 men who can save Pawalek now http://images.stltoday.com/stltoday/resources/duncan329flash.jpg
  11. For what its worth, if anything, Channel 5 news just reported that Randy Wells will be called up to replace Zambrano, but does that mean the Scales will be called up for now and they'll deal with that on Friday?
  12. Do we not have a third base option in the entire bloody organization between Ramirez and Vitters? Sure we do.....Bobby Scales is his name. Well done Hendry, et al, well done. Scales seems like more of a 2B/SS
  13. Id prefer Fox over either, but whatever.
  14. Do we not have a third base option in the entire bloody organization between Ramirez and Vitters?
  15. This makes sense in 2 scenerios: A. Ramirez is not as ready as they thought, but hes still too close for a 12 day DL stint, and the want another infielder B. Scales is auditioning for Gathrights roster spot, and if he does well between now and when Zs spot would come up next, Gathright goes and Wells comes up, and if Scales cant cut it, he goes back down for Well. Rotoworld seems to think that Wells os Ascanio will be called up Either way, when Zs spot rolls around, one of them will be called up and Scales or Gathright will be gawn.
  16. Assuming both are healthy, there kind of the opposite.
  17. Japan. Dominican Republic, via a detour through Japan. Obviously hes originally from the DR. Anywhere where I could find his stats from Japan? He only got a cup of Sake with the Hiroshima Carp: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/Esmailin--Caridad.shtml He spent most of 2007 at Hiroshima's Dominican Academy where he posted a line of 1-2, 4.02 ERA, 17 BB, 30 K in 31.1 IP. Fixed. Seriosuly though, None of those numbers seem particularly impressive, but our scouts must have seen something in him.
  18. This at least sounds good, like even if he does miss a start, that will be about it.
  19. Its not gonn' rain.
  20. Rotoword said it would be Ascanio. I guess it depends if they want to bring up a reliever and give Shark or Heilman the starts, in which case Ascanio, Fox, and Stevens are all well deserving of the shot, but if he wants to bring up a starter Wells or Caridad(probably Wells since Caridad isnt on the 40 man) would be the way to go. Of course Kevin Hart is always a possibility until the organization finally gives up on him.
  21. I think Lou had originally called for Jason Marquis to pinch run, except that he forgot that Jason was traded a few months back. That and the fact that he hates Joey Gathright as much as the rest of Cubs Nation does.
  22. Suprisingly, no. Youd think someone would take out a flyer on a 22 year old left former 1st round pick/high school phenom.
  23. Im happy for him, but to the White Sox really need another old slow guy?
