  1. two of them are outfielders and one is an atrocious fielder anywhere. the cubs don't need outfield help. plus let it go on dubois, he's AAAA. do we need to call him up and watch him not hit again? but yeah, freel sucks and is overpaid, so this would be a terrible idea. i don't really believe it unless the orioles ate a bunch of money. If we have to be stuck with garbage, Id just assume it be our own garbage that we can pay league minumum. If you're going to go after Freel, why not just re sign Edmonds? Freel makes 0.00 sense even if the O's picked up the whole bill.
  2. Yay, a guy we dont need. Sorry Fox, Dubois, and Snyder
  3. The catch 22 is that even if these guys do have the stuff to get it done, but Lou feels ore confortable with Gregg and Marmol, the rest are going to rust away in the pen and get shellacked when their time comes.
  4. You do realize we were only up by 2 with the meat of the Astros order coming up, right? When? They were up four when Gregg came in, no (Gregg gave up one run on the sac fly)? Anyway, that's not the only time he could have been used. He could have been used in the eigth instead of Mormol. Look, at some point guys like Guzman and Heilman (he did finally pitch last night) have to be trusted in a tight game. Mormol and Gregg simply can not hold up at this ridiculous pace. edit: you were talking about the eighth when you said up two, i guess. As you recall, Gregg didnt come in at first, cue near disaster.
  5. This was exactly my though as I read this. Either that or some team pick him up on waivers..(haha!) Anyone but the Cardinals. Id just assume he not become the next Rickey Henderson.
  6. It seems that we have a pretty decent crop of pitching prospects, for the first time in a while. It remains to be seen how each will perform once they get promoted to the next level though Iowa Jose Ascanio Jeff Stevens Greg Reinhard Shark Tennessee Jay Jackson John Gaub Im still up in the air on the 2 Caseys Daytona Dan McDaniel Ryan Searle Andrew Cashner David Cales Marcus Mateo Peoria Chris Carpenter Chris Archer Chris Huseby Ryan Buchter Mark Perconte The best part is these are actual prospect prospects, not minor leaguers in their late 20's finally finding their way.

  8. Success. If the entire Cubs organization were in a building, and that building were hit with a giant meteor, the only survivors would be the cockroaches and Chad Fox.
  9. Someone in the game thread tonight posted a report that he heard that said that Soto is more hurt than the Cubs are letting on, and to not expect 2008 numbers from him this year at all. At this point, I'm not expecting anything remotely close. I'd be happy with .260/.330/.450 at this point. He's still a pretty good catcher behind the plate. People have to remember that after May 18th of last year, his stat line for the rest of the year was .269/.336/.459/.795. This is more likely the type of pro Geovany Soto will be, not the Geo that lit up the NL in April 2008 before pitchers figured out how to pitch him. I haven't been expecting superstar Soto. I'd settle for a tolerable Soto at this point. He's got to shed the blubber. Id settle for tolerable Michael Barrett at this point.
  10. Interesting. I thought for sure Lous refusal to bat Scales at any point last night meant the end of the line for him. Top of the 9th when Miles batted would have been a perfect opportunity. Granted Miles got the job done, setting the table for Sorianos bomb, but still.
  11. Hopefully Randy can do to the Brewers what guys making their first major league start usually do to us.
  12. That was quite an ending to a game that started out with 8 very dull innings.
  13. I wonder why? Could it have something to do with the 4 pitch walk and giving up 2 triples to bad hitters?
  14. Whatever happens this year, guaranteed we invite him to spring training next year.
  15. were you honestly expecting something different? I know AAA stats often dont mean much, but in spring training, he was looking very sharp.
  16. Wasnt Henry Blanco his mentor last year, keeping him in line and in shape? Maybe for that reason alone, we could have given Hank another year or 2. God knows Lou doesnt care much for Koyie.
  17. Its been that long? They used to do it on a regular basis last year.
  18. Nice low pressure situation to see if Soto can do anything.
