  1. So I take it the newest member of the Cubs will soon be the newest member of the Cubs DL.
  2. If the Indians are the Cubs Castoffs, then the Orioles are the Cubs Dumpster
  3. Im not saying that they'll be creating a super star, or even a guy who will ever make it past single A, but I like the concept, and it could be worth watching in the off season.
  4. Speaking of remembering guys: Havent heard that name in quite a spell.
  5. I dont know, there are these kinds of shows for everything from cooking to dog grooming to dating aged rocker stars and rappers, so I could see this getting a green light.
  6. He needs to try his luck in Japan or at least some indie league if he ever has hopes of baseball relevence again.
  7. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090510&content_id=4656872&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Sounds like Who Wants to be a Career Minor Leaguer
  8. No I said it exactly how I wanted to say it. Had we had a RH hitter on the bench to face Stetter there is a very good chance the game turns out differently. Stetters numbers against rightys are alot worse than his numbers vs LH hitters. If the Cubs tie that game up, or take the lead the game would have turned out very differently. We wouldnt have seen Fox, or Patton in that game, or had to throw Heilman to the wolves. Lou was hoping Demp could get 1 more inning since we were still down, but had it been tied or we had the lead, Marmol would have been used. Yes there is a lack of trust in the 5-7 guys in the pen, but thats why you dont play your bench a man short so you can tie it or take the lead and skip having to use Fox, Patton, or Heilman. Fox was unavaliable for Iowa yesterday due to being hit with part of a broken bat, meaning he wouldnt have been available for us either so the bench man would have been Brad Snyder, whose a lefty or Jason Dubois, and weve been there and done that.
  9. In other words, Mark DeRosa. Way to go, Hendry. That would have been a good start.
  10. You keep talking about bringing Stevens up, and I have no clue why. What part of his 13ip and 7 walks do you think Lou is going to like? He has command issues, and we have enough of that already in our bullpen. My philospophy is I prefer the guy who has yet to prove he can do the job over the guy who has proved he cant.
  11. Fine by me as long as we trade for a quality thirs baseman.
  12. Its not hard to find guys in the minors that are RH and can hit LH pitching, but struggle vs Rh's. Also thats all we need is a bench player as Hoff will take all the starts vs rightys anyway. Had we had that "bench player" last night, there is a very good chance the game turns out differently. Maybe Fridays game, but yesterdays was pretty much doomed the moment Dempster went out for the 7th. Demp wouldnt have went out for the 7th had we scored in the 6th with bases loaded 1 out. Marmol would have been used more than likely to face the top of their lineup in the 7th, but Lou left Hoff in to face a Lefty who hold LH hitters under .100 because D Lee is hamstringing this team right now by not going on the DL. You should have said theres some chance the game turns out differently, not a very good one. It comes down to the complete lack of trust in 5/7 of the pen.
  13. Can we get Bob behind the plate while were at it?
  14. Id like to think that Stevens up, Patton gone isnt too far behind, but after kicking both Gaudin and Vizcaino to the curb in his favor they're going to ride him out to the bitter end out of principle.

  16. Steroid like substances have existed since the 30's and 40's, so whose to say that players didnt experiment before the 80's. Im just saying, who knows whose career could have been tainted and we'll never know.
  17. Seriously, if we want to remain in contention through this crud storm, there going to have to make a trade for someone, and a quality player at that. Even at this point in the season there will be available guys, but yeah, you're going to over pay for someone, but thats just the way it is, unless we want to wait til another next year. Cantu, Huff, and Atkins can all play 1st and 3rd. Huff and Atkins would be much cheaper, but at this point, I say go all out and see what the Marlins want for Huff. We could also look into Beltre. The fact is, Hoffpauir is doing well, but he cant hit lefties to save his life, and we cant afford to bring up another minor leaguer. The only ones who can hit anything are outfielders. If Lee is on the DL you play Hoff at 1st. That's all there is to it. You're not wasting even more trade pieces when they're likely going already have to do that for Ramirez. The situations at 1st ad 3rd are vastly different. . I didnt suggest trading for both. I suggested trading for a player who can play both 1st and 3rd when need. Yeah, Hoff is good, at least vs. righties, but the point is, once Ramirez is back, you have a guy who can also hold down first at times. It would be sily to trade for a slugger who will be nothing more than a pinch hitter once Ram is back.
  18. So wouldnt he be able to see the signs better than anyone? Im sure he wasnt shocked by McGwire and Ankiel, and he wont be shocked if and when Ludwick and Molina come up.
  19. Lee for Greinke! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ Maybe if we throw in Heilman the'll throw in Teahen or Jacobs.
  20. Nobody to call up that would be anything more than a bench player. Trade time.
  21. Im not calling TLR credible by any means, but at this point, there are very, very few sluggers in the game at this point that I would be surprised to hear linked with PEDs of some form.
  22. We just need to sit back and take a deep breath. With the starting staff we have, coupled with a now respectable, but not great lineup, I cant see us not entering the ASB without an above .500 record, and while Milwaukee, St. Lou, and even Cincy are better than we thought, none of these are teams capable with running off with a division. When we get everyone back, and finish with a solid second half, even if were fighting for a wild card, were still a contender. Yeah, I would trade foe an Atkins or Huff is the asking price is semi-reasonable, but other than that, I think we'll be OK. Not that Iv gotten the positivity out of the way, is there any chance TLR ws right about Geo last year? You know what Im talking about.
  23. Keith Moreland will sit out of with an ankle sprian. His condition is day to day, and Mike Bielecki just heard a pop in his elbow.
  24. Have they said this since the James Andrews talk came up?
