  1. Sure, get a crappy player just because they used to give trouble. Remember Jeff Blauser? How about Aaron Miles? Sarchasm The sad thing is hed be a legit upgrade to what we have now.
  2. 0-3, failed to even show up for an inning in the NLDS. That's a very strong indicator that they were flukey, or lucky. So a 3 game losing streak makes a 162 game season "Lucky or Flukey' That is not solid logic. Your suggestion to Fire Hendry and it will be a step towards fixing the problem. Okay, who do you replace him with two thirds of a season remaining. I think there needs to be a realization here that there is still a Majority of the season left and the Cubs still have a winning record. Adding up the variables here, it is more likely that the Cubs are in contention now then not in contention. I want Hendry gone as well, but realize it can't happen during the season. Hendry is a problem though. If you get rid of Hendry, you dont want to do it mid season. A. it does nothing, its more of a punishment and it doesnt help us. B. Hendry is a wiz at mid season trades.
  3. Sorry if this has been covered, but the Texans signed Rex Grossman to a $620,000 deal, presumeably as a back up. I guess Im glad hes getting another chance somewhere.
  4. Wells is due for a rough start and a win. I know I said that last time, and it didnt happen.
  5. Two comments: 1 - What's the incentive for the Rockies to trade a guy (Barmes) making just over $1.5 million unless we offer more than he's worth? 2 - Phillips would be fantastic, but I can't imagine the Reds dealing him, especially to us. Nice thought, though. And of course the pesky fact that the Reds are ahead of us in the standings.
  6. I agree with this basic idea, but at the same time I just don't realistically see anyone available that can truly turn this offense around. I'm hesitant to start doling out prospects for guys that ultimately aren't enough to turn around an offense that will potantially have this many holes for most of the season. I think Branyan is the guy. We can use him when Ramirez comes back, and he shouldnt be too expensive. Granted, we'll be buying high, but were pretty desperate at this point. We could probably offer a few major league ready guys like Fox/Hoffpauir and Hart and mix with a few AA or lower prospects. hes a guy who can be planted at the 4 or 5 spot, and move everyone else up a spot.
  7. It always seems to come back to the stupidity of trading DeRosa in the first place. DeRosa over the past 28 days: .308/.378/.508/.886 His current season OPS is .777 and rising. But he hits from the wrong side of the plate, and in the end, thats all that matters. The key is the first three words in your post. With the way the offense is going, who cares which side of the plate he hits from. As for worrying about the playoffs, let's get there first. My failure to use green font strikes again.
  8. Sure, get a crappy player just because they used to give trouble. Remember Jeff Blauser? How about Aaron Miles?
  9. You're a moron. I'm not interested in talk radio anger. Thanks for the reply though. You keep spouting the "radio talk" line at other people but yourself only offer suggestions along the lines of firing Hendry as if that will automatically fix the team. My response to your analogy was because I was surpsised at how simplistic and incorrect it was. Does Hendry have his faults? Of course. Has he made a lot of mistakes? Hell yes. But to compare him with something that does NO good whatsoever is just completely faulty and kneejerk pessimism. In any evaluation of Hendry you have to take the good with the bad: you cannot simply focus on the bad and act like everything else does not exist because that's of course going to make the "anyone else would probably better" line of thinking you seem to be supporting seem like the right move. It's the same perspective you have to take towards this season so far: yes, there are parts of it where Hendry clearly dropped the ball. There are also key aspects of it that are out of the control of any GM. It's not as simple as "Hendry [expletive] this up and needs to go." Whenever he brings up the radio talk, I get the impression that hes one of those callers that Boers nand Bernstein are constantly going off on. Did anyone else catch that Dennis guy a few days ago? Hilarious stuff. Sometimes I wonder if these callers are guys that they pay to call in and say crazy things to get those 2 going.
  10. Theres no question we need help of some kind. This isnt a few bad games mixed in here or there. Its a whole bunch of bad offensive games with a few good ones mixed in here and there. All teams can put together a good game here and there. Basically, at this point, the game is to try and hang in there for the 3-5 weeks or whatever until Aramis comes back. The wat things are going, thanks to a steller starting staff, the answer to that is we probably can. However, the offense has been too consistantly bad to go as isn for any lenght of time, and we need something.
  11. Screw it, were desperate. I suppose the big question is are we desperate enough to trade Sean Marshall for a rent a player? Im going to say yes, for the simple fact that for some reason, Sean will never be good enough for Lou as a regular starter for some reason. He'll always fine something supposedlt better.
  12. I guess if Derrek did nothing else, he spared Dempster a very undeserved loss.
  13. So is there anyone left out there in NSBB land still pretending that this offense is anything else but brutal? no? good, just making sure were all on the same page here.
  14. un-be-lievable. Wait, no its very believable. We're bad.
  15. Good job losing that 3-0 count. What a team.
  16. Dont look know, but a fake rallies a brewin.
  17. Have you seen the lineup Ken Machas trotting out today? Counsell SS Catlanotto RF Braun LF Fielder 1B Gamel 3B McGhee 2B Gerut CF Kendall C Sadly, Id take it over ours.
  18. You would think there is somebody that can be found to play a little 3rd until Aramis comes back. Hendry's awful. 3B is hardly the only problem on this team. very few players are hitting up to their abilities. Very few players are hitting up to my abilities.
  19. Jokes over Jim, you can announce that big trade you've been keeping secret for the past month or so.
  20. *sigh*, I gues we just have a bad offense. A well paid offense, but a bad one non the less. Yeah, we put some runs on the board from time to time, but even bad offenses can have a big game sometimes. As the Padres showed, they can even have a 10 game hitting streak, but when the dust is cleared, they are what they are. Hopefully the rotation can keep us in it until Ramirez returns.
  21. Dempster is such a joke. When will he finally realise that you cant give up a run with this offense behind you.
  22. I think this will be one of those games where we all end up hoping that changes are coming, but sadly, they never do.
  23. So is it safe to say that whatever Koyie had going for him at 1 point, its pretty much run its course?
  24. If the Astros fall out of it, it makes more sense to trade him to a division rival than any other team. Tejada helps the other team like the Cubs for 2009, but then the loss of prospects hurts the Cubs every year after 2009 (when Tejada is probably not re-signed). Since the Astros wouldn't care about 2009 at that point, it's in their best interest to weaken one of their division rivals for upcoming seasons. Even if the Cubs won it all in 2009 because of that move, why would the Astros care? They weren't going anywhere anyway. I dont think its about weakinng the rivals, if a team is out of it, it doesnt really matter anymore if he goes to someone in or out of their own division. You just want the best offer possible. I tend to agree, with the only exception being a young stud player who could help his new team for many years to come. If, for example, the Brewers traded Ryan Braun to the Cubs. If the Cubs knocked them out with an offer then they'd probably accept, but it'd likely have to be more than they were demanding from others - primarily because Braun would help the Cubs for 10 or so more years so they'd have to make sure they did some damage to the Cub farm system in the process. But for a rental like Tejada, I don't think the Astros would think twice. Thats pretty much what I meant. Its in regards to rent a players, where you just want the most you can get, and it doesnt matter who he goes to. As far as young players, any team would be crazy to trade a player to their own division who could be a star for years to come like a Ryan Braun, Joey Votto, or Aramis Ramirez.
