  1. Come on Soriano, for the love of all that is good, please do the opposite of what the Cobs usually do in these situations.
  2. clutch hits really arent Fontenots thing, so the best we can hope for is to avoid the DP and hope Soriano does something.
  3. And here comes Fukudome to do something awful.
  4. Loaded bases, the krytonite of all Cobs hitters.
  5. Mike Fontenot should not be a starter on a major league baseball team of any kind.
  6. I stepped out for a minute with 2 on and 0 out, and knew that 0 runs would be on the board when I came back, and sure enough.
  7. Fox at 3rd and Hoff at 1st should be interesting.
  8. Freels been doing very well in his sample size in Iowa. Im not saying he'll be the answer to our problems, but Id like to see him get some starts at 3rd. He was a very soluid player until around 2007 when injuries started taking over, and who knows, maybe he can do for us what Podsednik( I refuse to refer to him as "Pods") is for the Sox.
  9. I think a lot of people are coming to the conclusion that if we hang on every single game of both our own, The brewers, and the Cardinals, between now and September, we'll go out of our minds. Many times Ive told myself Ill sit the game out, and I always fail.
  10. Not a surprise. I know, but until now, there was at least the small glimmer of hope that Id check MLBTR in the next few weeks or even days and read about the Cubs aquiring someone like DeRosa, Teahen, Branyan, or Lopez.
  11. He signed last summer and received a bonus of $725,000 (the third highest bonus of any international free agent signed by the Cubs this decade behind Jae-Kuk Ryu and Larry Suarez). Way more on him here and here. Sounds impressive. They say hed be a top 20 pick in a big league draft. At age 18, I doubt he even cracks Iowa before 2012 though.
  12. Would a 6th rounder sign for more than a 1st rounder?
  13. OK, Im not going to say hes the answer to our problems, but hes really raking in Iowa, be it a small sample size. Id rather have him than Miles, or at this point, Fontenot. He was a very solid player until around 2007 when he started getting injured, as opposed to Miles whose always sucked and capitilized on 1 respectable season in 2008. Just bring Freel up and see what he can do.
  14. What do we know about Lee? Ive just heard of him in the last few days. Is he a recent IFA signee or was he from last year? Hes defintiely off to a nice start though.
  15. Lineup prediction, not so much what I expect, but what Id like to see. Soriano LF Theriot SS Lee 1B Bradley DH Fox 3B Soto C Hoff RF Blanco 2B Fukudome CF
  16. I actually didnt hear this first hand, but a friend of mine heard on the radio that while a trade is possible, it wont happen until closer to the deadline after Aramis is back and they can evaluate how much he can contribute, and at then decide what there main needs are, so I guess we can forget about anything in the next few weeks. Hopefully we can just get Fox in as much as possible. ETA: Here it is in writing
  17. Rich Harden is due for A. A good outing B. To stop being the weak link in our rotation. If hes hurting or whatever, thats fine, DL him and Marshall is a more than capable replacement. If hes not hurting, theres no reason for him not to look like he did when he first cam over. I fully expect to see Fox at 3rd today, and I really wish that Johnson gets well soon and he can get the regular CF job and we can bench Fukudome until next April. Sorianos starting to pick it up. Theriots Theriot. Bradleys and Lee are doing well. That gives us a solid 1-4, and then Fox or Hoff are going to be solid #5s, but when you're 6-9 is complete garbage, thats not good. not at all.
  18. I would stay far, far away from Tavarez at all costs. Id see what the Royals want for Cruz though. I doubt that Bell or Meredith will be available any time soon. Bell is Trevor Hoffmans heir apparent and is arb eligable in 2010 and 2011, and Meredith isnt a FA until 2013, sot theres no reason to move either.
  19. Tyler Colvin, Wellington Castillo, and Jake Fox for Mark Teahen and Juan Cruz, yay or nay?
  20. If we want to take a cheap risk that could pay off, the Twins DFAd Luis Ayala.
  21. Gregg has been very solid as of late. On the other hand, while Bradley, Lee, and Theiot have been doing well, and Soriano is showing signs of picking up, and the occasional hit by Fox and Hoff, the offense has been pretty useless. Betweem Fukudome, Soto, and Fontenot, these guys need to really pick it up, or Hendry needs to find someone who can.
