  1. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-kaplan-chicago-sports/2009/07/breaking-news-cubs-sale-to-be-announced-today.html The article has been updated, and the words "to be announced later today" have a line through them. Lets not hold our breath on this one.
  2. I knew youd be just around the corner with such a comment. Everyone wants to add players, we dont have the money at this time for a big name, and nobody wants to give up a lot of prospects. Therefore, the options are A. other teams crap B. our own crap.
  3. Nobody's going to claim him. Teams will wait til he's a free agent so they don't have to pay his contract. Hes already cleared waivers and a free agent as of today, so it doesnt go through each team worst-best record. At this point, its just like any other free agent and he can negotiate with whoever he wants, or whoever wants him anyway. Thanks for the clarification. I guess I don't get what happens now, since his salary is paid, and we would only have to pay league minimum - so what is it that he is negotiating? I think its more of a personal preference at this time. He'll probably have to go with a minor league deal with an opt out clause after a certain number of weeks/months.
  4. now go buy yourself something real nice Ricketts, and I dont mean a yact.
  5. Too bad the banks cant claim players as assets like they do with houses and cars. I can just imagine the repo man dragging off the entire Cubs outfield in the middle of a game :rotfl:

  7. Ill believe it when I see the press conference.
  8. I suppose at league min, theres no reason not to give him a shot in Iowa. If he looks decent, bring him up, if not, no biggy.
  9. You should be on Last Comic Standing - Calling Gallagher, Patterson, and Murton major league ready players.    They are major league ready. Ready to be good, not so much.
  10. 2009 OPS+ Fontenot 72 Cabrera 74 Ellis 66 Neither is really an upgrade over Fontenot. A Fontenot/Baker platoon should outproduce either of them. You conveniantly left out-Kennedy 115. Maybe we just picked up the wrong Cardinal cast off this off season.
  11. Im sure whoever takes over as manager of the Washington Nationals will have no problem taking them to the top where they belong.
  12. If we can get a second baseman who can use a baseball bat, great. With Soto out for a month we'll need another bat, and its easier to get a middle infielder than a catcher who can hit. We really need Soriano to get it together. If our guys play to their abilities, and the Cardials play to theirs, the 3.5 game deficit should be like a 5 point defecit at half time in a basketball game. Pujols will be Pujols, Carpenter will be Carpenter, at least if he stays healthy. Wainwright is a great #2, and Ludwick is very streaky, but when hes on, watch out but the rest of those guys are spare parts.
  13. why do you want to bring in more terrible players? if we got any of those guys you'd be screaming for hendry to get rid of them after they have one bad game anyways. Apparently, you're idea of a terible player is one whose not a superstar. Kennedy and Cabrera are not horrible players. Any manager would love either guy at the 8 spot in their lineup. Both Ellis and Crosby have the potential to be just as bad as Fontenot, Baker, Miles, et al., but they also have a high upside, which Fontenot and Baker have as well, but weve given Fontenot over half a season and Baker is showing no signs that he'll be any better. Everyone says we need a new second baseman, or a shortstop and move Theriot to 2nd, but nobody wants the guys we can afford.
  14. Sean Gallagher has been named the PTBNL in the trade.Once again, good luck Sean.
  15. Cabrera. Yeah, him. Id rather have Hudson, but I dont see the Dodgers moving him.
  16. Yeah, Bradley got screwed on strike 3, but they almost had to makeup for the Johnson trap. Baker also got shafted on strike 3, but hes Jeff Baker and no good would have come out of the at bat. Hoffs were 3 strikes, like it or not.
  17. Oakland seems to have a surplus of middle infielders. The problem is, some may or may not be an upgrade over what we have, but as bad as what we have has been, at least as far as second base goes, may as well give it a look see. -Adam Kennedy has been having a nice year with a .291/.353/.444 line, with 7 home runs. Hed be my top target, but if we cant get him we could settle for.. -Orlando Cabrera-hes Orlando Cabrera. Hes had some good years, and some bad years. This year, at .262/.299/.343, clearly not doing great, but still he could be worth a try. -And then theres Mark Ellis and Bobby Crosby. Ellis has had some good years, and Beane has shown a lot of man love toward him in the past, but maybe hes ready to move him. Bobby Crosby is similar to Khalil Greene in that hes one of those guys whose shown great potential and you wonder if change of scenery could do him good. -And then theres Nomar. I dont think any of these guys would be too costly in terms of money, but as far as prospects go, you never know when it comes to Beane. I know none of these guys are going to make or break a team, but without the finances for a Sanchez, Uggla, or Cantu, this could be our best non Ray Durham bet.
  18. Well, that and performance enhancing drugs. they prefer to call them "pixie dust"
  19. Any chance BJ played second base at any point in his college, high school or little league career?
  20. every comissioner is actually just trying to screw you over. sucks man. Bettman is the best at it. Glad you caught that comment ;) Arent the Brewers Seligs "beloved team"? Youd think hed want us to win tonight.
  21. That entire inning was absolute flipping insanity. We need to follow up with at least a fake rally.
  22. Does Miller really need to react to everything like its a walk off home run in game 7 of the World Series?
