  1. Id be happy with mediocrity at this point. This season just needs to end and these losers need to not show their faces until next spring.
  2. Too bad we couldnt get this kind of run suppot when our starters were shutting down the Dodgers. What a crappy team.
  3. I wonder if theres anyone more baffled than the Cardinals at the absolute bed wetting of the Cubs and Brewers.
  4. Much like this season, this game just needs to be over.
  5. I suppose if ever there was a pitching staff you could make up a 5 run defecit in 3 innings, its that of the Washington Nationals. Not that it matters.
  6. losers. this series is about as meaningful as far as the playoffs are concernder as the A's/Mariners series.
  7. Their situation is unreal. They lose Their starting 1B, 3B, SS, CF, 3/5 of their starting rotation including their ace as well as their set up man and a handfull of backups, not to mention their starting RF may b e joining the party.
  8. If anything, his first have was a fluke.
  9. It's been done. Dave Trembley currently in Baltimore. And Joe Maddon never played in the majors. They both played in the minors, be it a short time, and thats still considered pro baseball.
  10. Listening to Mully and Hanly this morning, they went through every manager possibility from Steve Stone to Ned Colletti, but what got me was to hire a Kenny Williams deciple to run the Cubs more like the White Sox. They said to clean house and bring up a bunch of ex Cubs, like the White Sox do, Sandberg as manager, get Larry Bowa in there, etc. Now if given my choice, Id much rather have the team run like the Red Sox, who have been contenders every year under Epstein as opposed to the White Sox who had 1 great year and a whole lot of mediocrity other than that, in an aful division no less.
  11. Starlin Castro has his AA avg. up to an even .300 after going 2-2, both doubles, and Tyler Colvin 4-6 with 1 double. I really see no harm in having Colvin finish the season in Iowa just to see what he can do at that level.
  12. The black jellybean that nobody likes yet they never eliminate it from the assortment.
  13. Are you reacting to the reaction of fans, the media, or Bruntlett himself? Either way, no one's really saying it was an amazing play (performance-wise). It's simply incredibly rare, and is impressive for that reason. It is very rare, but for every unassisited triple play in baseball history, you'll probably find that some kind of baserunning gaff as much to due, if not more so than the fielder himself.
  14. Hopefully Z can continue the trend of strong starts, and the offense can stop their trend of of sucking. Lilly and Wells deserved to win their games, and Gorz was very strong as well, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices to Aaron Miles up to the plate.
  15. Id defintiely offer Grabow and Harden arb. Gregg, not so much.
  16. The Dodgers offense has been nothing to speak of lately. I wouldnt be surprised if they took a dive in the 1st round. Our starting pitching held them in check all the way.
  17. You can protect anybody who you're willing to put on the 40 man roster. If Gaub and Parker were put on the 40 man in order to be called up in September, they would be protected. But that would also take 2 of the available spots on the 40 man for other players that might need to be protected before the rule 5 draft. There's no separate list for Rule 5. At the time of the Rule 5 draft, anybody who's on the 40 man roster is protected. Anybody who hasn't had enough minor league experience is also protected. Everybody else who has been in the minors for long enough is eligible to be picked. Keep in mind, by the time the draft rolls around, there will be others off the 40 man, such as Johnson, Heilman, Gregg, Chad Fox, Cotts, and hopefully Miles.
  18. I like Grabow, but if hes an FA, Id just assume Marshall be the main lefty out of the pen and see what Gaub can do as well. If not, Im sure we can trade for another Grabow type when needed.
  19. I trust Jake Fox will get the start in left and Soriano remains on the bench where he belongs. Other than that, I have little doubt we can at least take 2 from the Nationals, but the games will mean as much to us as they do to them.
  20. So from what I understand, of the eligible players, we can protect 5 from the draft. However, when September rolls around, if we were to add a few to the 40 man and call them up, would the no longer be eligible for the rule 5 and we could protect a few others in their place? Say Gaub and Parker are called up in September, and why not, would the no longer be rule 5 eligible?
  21. Realistically, I dont expect to win this one, but it would be nice for the players not to go in with that attitude.
