  1. If I work at the hotel that the umpire crew is staying at, I send out an anonomous tip to the city of Detroit saying exactly where Joyce is staying and let them have their way with him. I hope that the image of that baserunner being out by about a foot, and Im sure it will be shown to him haunts him for the rest of his days.
  2. In all seriousness, I wonder of Jeff Samardzjia for Alex Gordon is a possibility. Much like Gordon, Shark is a former top prospect whose team has pretty much given up on him, and maybe a change of scenery would do him good. Of course, Shark would have to waive the NTC that he never should have had to begin with, but I suppose he would considering hes much more likely to get a shot with KC than with us. Maybe throw in one of our AAAA guys like Fuld, Hoffpauir, or Snyder. Maybe Theriot if it gets the job done.
  3. Maybe Gorz and Theriot plus another prospect would land us Alex Goirdon, but as for Sila, he's not exactly the type of player a team like the Royals would want
  4. Not with the way the Cubs are playing. And it's good to see the Cubs are being dominated by the New York Yankees in disguise. To be honest, there was a time when I could go to the ballpark just for a god time, and if the Cubs won, great, if not it was still a good time. Now that I have developed expectations, its just not the same. Its just not a good time when the team is playing bad. Its not like if I go to a game, and the Cubs lose, all is lost. A good game is a good game, but when they're playing flat out bad baseball, I just dont enjoy myself. Last year, for instance when they were playing their worst, I went to a game vs. the Twins. It was when they brought in some spot starter who shut us down, and was promptly sent back down to AAA. Meanwhile Wrigley was taken over by Twins fans, whose trailers might be slightly larger than those of Cards fans which made the experience even worse.
  5. The Crew had some kind of indication. I'm not sure what it was, but they knew something. And you know this....how? because they signed him. They aren't signing players who they think will automatically suck. Neither do the Cubs. See dew's post at the top of this page: they almost certainly signed him for vastly different expectations than what they ended up with. McGehee was not on anyone's radar as being this type of player. Look at almost any evaluation of him as a minor leaguer. Im sure the Brewers did see something in him, thats why they took a chance. However, the Cubs also saw something in David Patton and Mike Parisi.Thats how it works. When a player becomes avaliable, and a team sees potential, they give him a shot. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesnt. McGehee has worked out for the Brewers so far, although not much else has.
  6. that would be so awesome. maybe getting out of KC and working with a good hitting coach could help Gordon adjust to the majors. Wed probably have to give up something good for Gordon, but he may very well be worth it. The goop thing about Gordon is that even if Ramirez starts playing, and we end up keeping him next year, he could also play 1B in 2011, and then after the 2011 season we could send him back to third and go after Adrian or Fielder. Unrealistic trade proposal: Cubs get: Alex Gordon Zack Greinke Royals get Josh Vitters Brett Jackson Jay Jackson Casey Coleman Randy Wells
  7. Can the new scoreboard play 3B?
  8. Time for our offense to once again get stiffled by another bad Pirates pitcher who would be a mop man for most teams or a number 4 starter in their AAA affiliate while Garrett "Babe" Pujols-Mantle beats us single handedly. Go Cubs! Free Starlin Castro from the 8 spot.
  9. Curious about this. In the Tennessee game, Vitters is listed as 3B, going 0-0. Then, Marquez Smith is listed as PH-3B 0-4. For some reason, Vitters must have started at 3B, but never got to bat as Smith PHd for him and took over at 3rd. Anyone know what happened there? http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/components/stats/linescore.jsp?sid=milb&gid=2010_05_31_tenaax_biraax_1&cid=milb&home=t247&away=t553
  10. Castro has been w of maybe 3 semi consistant hitters on this team, so is it really wise to keep burying him at the 8 spot? Not that it matters considering how worthless the majority of this lineup is.
  11. Ive said this a million times, but Im still baffled. Until this year, Grabow has been a solid but not spectacular middle reliever, but on what planet are run of the mill middle relievers worth 7.5 mil? Thats even a lot for a good set up man, and while he started out as a set up man, he wasnt even intended to be used that way, unless they had a pretty good idea that Guz would miss the season all along.
  12. Jeff Stevens and James Russell applaud the Cubs for making the right move.
  13. Even after the less than steller Cards series, I think this team has been playing well enough that they can smack the Pirates around like they used to, and not vice versa, however, it would be quite Cub like after just taking 8-13 from >.500 teams Colorodo, Philly, Texas, L.A. and St. Lou that wed get swept by these guys.
  14. Seeing as he has joined Neifi Perez, Aaron Miles, and others as a winner of the JIm Hendry lottery, he probably has another 5 mil or so coming to him. Teams have gutted more than that on less bad players and let them walk away. If we can find I taker, and I dont see how we could that might be the best option. However, a long shot would be trading for another reliever with a bad contract. I beleive Cleveland has a righty that might be right up our alley. I think the guys name is Wood. Kerry Wood. Cleveland isnt going anywhere anytime soon, so this move doesnt benefit them as a 1 for 1 swap, however, if we could to some kind of tradeoff with contracts, it could happen. Also, he claims to love the Cubs organization so much, maybe hed be willing to either waive or restructure his very ill advised 2011 $11 million option. Boy, was that a bad contract.
  15. This has to stop. Didnt mean to offend you there A Van.
  16. Yeah, it seems as though everytime one guy heats up, another guy cools down. Pretty much every starter has had a hot streak and a cold one. Aramis is the only one who hanst put together a hot streak, and brother, that guy is due for a scorcher.
  17. He has looked very good. I say send him to the pen where all top pitching prospects belong..
  18. Dear Mr. Grabow, congrats on winning the 2010 Jim Hendry lottery, now don't let the door hit you on the way out.
  19. While I disagree with the sentiment that this will completely derail his future as a starter, I really dont think this is the right move or a rational move. The pen is not the problem it once was, and what we need is 1 more quality righty, which we could surely get without doing this.
  20. With all the talk about trades, Im surprised there hasnt been any talk of trying Wells in the pen. He was in there for a small sample size, I believe in the end of 2008 and did pretty well. As for Gorz, we already have 2 quality lefites in the pen in Marshall and Russell, and Gaub looks like he could step in if Russell falls off a cliff. If we could get something of use in return for Gorz, I would be all for it, but I just dont see it at this time. If we tried Wells out of the pen, that would add another righty with a rotation of Z, Demp, Lilly, Silva, and Gorzo, with Cashner, Jax, and Diamond all seemingly ready in Iowa if the need arrises. Then we have the new and improved pen of Marmol, Marshall, Wells, Russell, Stevens, Howry, and unfortunately, Grabow. Cashner goes back to the Iowa rotation, and maybe put Atkins in the pen just in case Howry falls apart, which wouldnt shock me. Its much better than the disaster waiting to happen of Marmol, Grabow, Samardjiza/Gray, Marshall, Caridad, Berg, and Russell. The pen really isnt a problem at this point, as long as Grabows kept out of high leverage situations. As far as pitching goes, we have the good problem of the rotation logjam.
  21. Really the only thing that Theriot has over Fontenot as of now is the maybe Fonenots better as a part time player argeuement. Otherwise, Fonts just the better player. Neither one is ever going to dazzle with defense, or take walks on a regular basis but Font has power, which Theriot lacks, and hes a lefty. Maybe Font should be given 2B with Baker as backup or platoon vs. lefties, and bring up Darwin Barney as backup SS and see what we can get for Theriot. I know the kiddies would be deestated, as all Cubs fans under the age of 18 seem to love the guy, but we really dont need him anymore.
  22. Silva and Theriot for Ubaldo and Tulo. Done and done.
  23. Some team with God awful pitching will probably take him, like the Brewers or the Brewers.
  24. Oh yeah. That guys a bad ass and a half.
