  1. I still think Castro should be hitting 2. Everytime hes in the 3 hole, he slumps. I mentioned this yesterday and asked what the splits looked like in each spot..Barney does not have to be in the 2 spot. Look how Castro thrives in the one and two compared to the three hole. 1st: 352/380/500/880 (92 PA) 2nd: 322/356/423/779 (412 PA) 3rd: 230/256/329/585 (160 PA) Exactly. Going by the way Aramis and Pena have been hitting, theyd be the closest thing to a decent 3-4 hitters weve had in 2 years.

  3. You should get your wish. Ramon Ortiz is expected to replace Z in the rotation. As long as that revolving door keeps spinning, maybe something not awful will come out of it, of course, I doubt that will be Ortiz.
  4. The only starter from the opening day roster that has not yet been on the DL this year. And it's correct. 4/5 starters, 4/8 starting position players, 2/5 bench players (with another one demoted), and 1/3 of the key relievers so far now have hit the DL. Starting to remind me of Charlie and the Chocalate Factory.
  5. Im really hoping theres some, any alterntive to Casey Coleman or James Russell.
  6. Per Bruce, Z to the DL, Wood activated. The upside is that when we need a starter next week, there's the outside chance they DFA Grabow.
  7. If Z hits the DL, I hope they at least try Jay Jackson. Yeah, hes been horrid this year, but Im sick of looking at Casey Colemans mug every few weeks, and there arent any other options.
  8. Im sure Lopez will give us plenty of awful and pathetic performances before his inevitable release in the next few weeks.
  9. Might as well hope they move them to Pluto. Hey, if Jupiter can have a team, why cant they. It would be a small consolation for losing their planetary status, but better than nothing.
  10. McGehee is a more interesting creature than guys like Fox and LaHair who were always high SLG/OPS guys in the minors. McGehee was always a mid/high .700s OPSer in the minors, sucked during his cup of coffee with The Cubs and randomly exploded for 2 years with the Brewers, and fell off a cliff. Have to wonder if he was taking some fancy vitamins.
  11. Hopefully MLB seizes them and takes them back to Brooklyn.
  12. Sweep these [expletive] so people can start to kind of sort of believe in this team. If we can't take at least 2 then its time to sell, sell, sell.
  13. I'm sure we'll find out next year when he's raking for the Brewers as Prince Fielder's replacement, a la Casey McGehee. You're right, LaHair would probably put up an OPS just under 600. McGehee OPSed .859 for MIL the year after the Cubs let him go. But I bet you knew that already. It seems too me that whenever guys have somewhat of a breakout at an older age, the success is short lived. Ryan Ludwick is another example. I'm sure there are others I'm forgettiing. In fact, the only guy I can think of who made the bigs at an older age who went on to a longer, successful career is Melvin Mora, and I think he was 27 or 28.
  14. With home run number 22, Brian LaHair is now 2nd in HRs in all of minor league baseball behind a tax attorney by the name of Paul Goldschmidt who moonlights with the D Backs AA Club. Hes also tied with Jose Bautista for 3rd in all of baseball between, Goldschmidt and Mark Teixeira. I know that PCL numbers dont tend to translate to big league success, but I refuse to believe that this guy wouldnt be able to do something in the big leagues. If nothing else, he could probably do what Fox and Colvin did when they 1st came up. Maybe we'll find out in a few weeks when we trade Pena. And no, WSR isnt getting a boner of another almost 30 AAAA player, and no WSR doesnt think that hed be an alterntive to Pujols or Fielder. Just curious to see what he could do.
  15. Im firmly in the dont trade Marmol or Marshall camp. In fact those 2, Castro, and maybe Garza and Soto are the only guys Id like the Cubs to hold on to from the active big league roster. Everyone else should be fair game for the right price.
  16. Jim Hendry: Uh....Doug....Mr. Davis....that whole unconditional release thing...April Fools!...heh heh heh. How does a 3 year extension with full NTC sound?
  17. Yet the Cubs refuse to part ways with John Grabow no matter how awful he is. As bad as Cameron has been in his time with the Red Sox, there are a lot of contenders in need of offense, so I cant see him out of work for too long at league minimum.
  18. I can understand if he didnt want to relocate for a fringe contender like Arizona, but if someone like the Phillies, Yankees, or Red Sox were interested, I cant imagine him objecting, and God knows the Phils could use some help in the pen.
  19. As long as Castro can go 2-4 or 3-4, for all I care we lose 12-3. Yup, Im viewing the Cubs the same way as I do the minor league affiliates.
