  1. I think it's racism that makes people hate it in MLB but love it in the NBA. If Derrick Rose did something like that you guys would all pitch tents. And if Joe Montana had killed his wife and her boyfriend, everyone would have loved him.
  2. He had a nice start, but Barney has been pretty much awful for two months now. the .680 OPS isnt really a decent job.
  3. Does Darvill project to develope any kind of power?
  4. I agree with you. Kind of like the people who get hung up on Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Zambranos contracts, and come to the conclusion that since they dont live up to the money they earn, they automatically suck, despite the fact that they're both very productive players.

  6. Everyone says Matt Moore is so great, but he can't hit for crap! Im assuming your saying that Beckham is a better fielder than Vitters, but if your a #1 overall pick, you need to have a bat to go with it, even if your the 2nd coming of Ozzie Smith defensively.
  7. At least on this site there were very few people who thought he signed for too much. There might have been a handful of people saying he signed for too much, while most of the complaints were over the deal being too long (wanted 2 not 3 years) and him not being an impact player (true). There were very, very few complaints about the money in the deal. I was gonna say the same thing. Byrd was a good bargain and the signing made sense at the time considering the other options. In a couple years when Wood retires, I'm sure you'll find a couple idiots saying things like, "He's overpaid!" and "We should have never brought him back!" but that's because you can find at least a couple people that think chickens give live birth. I made the mistake of getting into a discussion with a random fan today, and I'd forgotten how awful it can be. Apparently: Garza is a No. 4/5 pitcher because he saw him in Minnesota his rookie year and he was awful. The Cubs should trade Soriano for picks Ramirez is only good in contract years. And that is why I love this site. It is unbelievably hard to find a well informed fan. Whenever I talk to friends it's always Darwin Barney is awesome, Aramis is lazy and I hope we give away that head case Zambrano. It's more than slightly irritating. Right about now, Barney is getting the same love that Theriot was at the height of his popularity. I try telling people that there are better options waiting in the minors, but they'll hear none of it. However, even the most casual of fans seem to be taking notice of Vintage Aramis. Theres also a lot of Campana love out there, but then again, Cubs fans always love their small, white players.
  8. Just out of curiosity, why are these guys lining up to [expletive] on Vitters, but the next years high school phenom, Tim Beckham, who is only a half year younger than Vitters and put up worse minor league career numbers to date not only get a pass but hes on the Futures Team?
  9. Really what it comes down to is that hes not hurting us by being there, hes not blocking anyone by any means, so theres no reason not to let him keep doing what hes doing, and hopefully make some improvements. And maybe some 1 on 1 time with out 3 million dollar hitting guru could also help him out a bit.
  10. Have they said who's replacing Tulo yet? Because Reyes missing too makes Castro the only SS. Ryan Theriot FTW!
  11. Those astros are the team to beat. The '27 Yankees of the Fecal League.
  12. He wasn't that bad. 7 IP, 4K 2BB 8H 3ER
  13. Was Austin Reed! I confuse the two. As for the Cubans, Silva was looking pretty good in the beginning, but hasn't done anything special since, especially with 3 better CFs in the system.
  14. Was your favorite player of the 90's Ron Gant? If a 27th round pick becomes Ron Gant, I don't think anyone will complain.
  15. It might be time to shut him down. Or at least send him to throw side sessions on back fields at Fitch. I'm pretty excited about Szczur, Kirk, Golden, and Wells, so even if Simpson makes Mark Pawalek look like a worthwhile pick, the 2010 draft could still be a success.
  16. Marwin just won't quit. 2-4 with a double. DJ added a double as well, and seems to be adjusting well to AAA after a slow start.
  17. At least Castro had a double and Pena a trade value home run. I really wish Aramis would waive the NTC. The way he's hitting, hed probably have no problem waiving the 2012 option, as he could be looking at a 3 year deal, and if he didn't waive it, the 16 mil 1 year option is more attractive than the 3/35 that he could command on the market.
  18. I hope Dolis is ok.
  19. Good call. And if you want to go back a bit to 2004, Hendry sold high or came very close to selling high on Hee Seop Choi and Justin Jones (Nomar trade). I don't know how much higher he could have sold on Choi considering he got a guy who was essentially the face of the franchise for the next 6 years and Choi was out of the league like a year later.
  20. nobody is going to give up anything of value for darwin barney. his minor league numbers scream utility infielder, and his ops is .668 this year... plus he's been a bad hitter aside from his .801 ops in the first month. people seem to be under the mistaken impression that winning mlb teams are led by morons who would love nothing better than to give up valuable commodities for a middle infielder who can't hit much. On his own, he wont net much. However, if packaged up with a rent-a-player like Fukudome or Pena, he could add a bit to the trade. Same goes for Blake Miles.
  21. I really would like to see Barney traded. Dont get me wrong, I like him, he seems like he could be a ryan Theriot who can field, but middle infielders who can hit s bit are always in demand, and we seem to have a lot of solid middle infielders in the system, between Gonzalez, Flaherty, DJ, Mota, and Watkins to name a few. Obviously, Castro isnt going anywhere anytime soon, so thats 1 job off the market.
  22. I think I'm up, I cant be sure since Fred stared for SPM yesterday. If Im wrong, I guess SPM can start tomorrows game. Maybe Gorz will show mercy to the team that put him on a lifeboat and sent him far, far away from this sinking mess of a ballclub. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_wVlEES5Yl1U/TQAHYpV3wBI/AAAAAAAAAMU/wI76ZIkxPlU/s320/1.jpg
  23. the tough part about projecting him is that he was so abysmal with the bat the last 3 years. he hit well in 2007 but the last 3 years posted an OPS of .632, .596 and .628. now all of a sudden he's got an OPS over .800? He's younger than Soto was when he exploded out of nowhere. i'm not saying it can't happen, but with soto you had a truckload of power showing up. the biggest change for gonzalez is that he's making more contact and his batting average is way up, maybe a few more doubles too. i have a hard time getting too excited about him because his ceiling is probably darwin barney, and we already have one of those. I don't know, I think if he were in then majors now, he'd be putting up similar numbers to Barney, and Barney is 25 years old. Gonzalez is around the age most college kids are being drafted, so you never know. If nothing else, between him, Flaherty, DJ, and Motq, we could see if we can't sell high on Barney.
