  1. Looks like the Cards are knocking around the wife beater early on. 3-0 in the top of the first with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 0 out.
  2. Aramis Ramirez is a type B but Jeff Keppinger and Placido Polanco are Type As. I still need help with that one.
  3. After all of the money pumped into the team, and all the time they spent in 1st place to spiral to where they were( a mere 90 wins, losers), they could potentially let their season lie in the hands of Bruce Chen or Rodrigo Lopez against Jeff Neiman or Matt Moore? Good luck with that.
  4. I don't think anyone on this team aside from Pena has.
  5. Since this is the last game, lets rock out the game thread. 10 pages or bust. OK, how about 5. is 3 too much to ask for?
  6. "Are you watching, Milwaukee?! Did you just see that?!" Yeah, bet they're real worried about Ryan Roberts and some of the other names that appear to receive regular playing time for the D'backs. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/20110927_Dodgers_Diamondbacks_0_2011092803848_lbig_.png That is one weak offense. 2 regulars with an OPS over .800.
  7. props for taking the high road, tree [expletive] that, the guy has been made a pariah for going after a foul ball that other people had their hands out to catch as well with his team up big and an outfielder that probably wouldn't have caught it anyway. Its high time the kid cashes in. I say on opening day, let him ride onto the field on a goat and throw out the first pitch.
  8. Sure Kenny, why not let someone else drown in Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, and Jake Peavy while you get a promotion.
  9. But that would require him not being a lazy latino who's only thinking about what club to go to after the game.
  10. It's great to have a guy who takes a lot of walks, but it helps if they can hit the ball once in a while.
  11. A few weeks ago, I had a moler extracted. I'm no more torn on wanting to watch this as I am having on that procedure done again.
  12. If Paul Sullivan said it, it must be true. If the White Sox got the Marlins 4&5 prospects for their head case of a manager, hopefully they'll send us something good for our headcase of a pitcher.
  13. Neither of these 2 seem particularly impressive, but giving up your 4&5 prospects for a manager with 1 year on his contract seems a bit excessive.
  14. Stoney for GM Sandberg for manager Maddux for pitching coach Woody for bullpen coach Sammy for hitting coach Dawson for bench coach Gracey for 1st base coach Dunston for 3rd base coach Prior for strength and conditioning coach Can't by better PR than that baby!
  15. "Yes, yes. Please take this man who took a crap minor league to the playoffs away from us". Without looking it up, can you name the managers of the Tennessee Smokies or Daytona Cubs? Me neither.
  16. Well, this may be true. However, Ricketts is a business man and a Cubs fan to boot. He loves Sandberg and he knows the fans love him. He has an angry fan base and he knows a move like this will appease 80% of them. Add Prince to this and he sells out every game. If you're going to hire a guy as a PR move, you don't hire him as a manager, you hire him as a special assistant or ambassador.
  17. I think signing Albert Pujols or Prince Fielder would be a better PR move, and it would also make the team better.
  18. Anyone who thinks that a team would get any player of value for 1 year of a questionable manager is also out of their [expletive] mind.
  19. I have no problem with a reconciliation with one of the best Cubs players of my life time. That doesn't mean he should be our manager.
  20. Yeah, but usually it's a relativeley minor player with little to nothing left on a contract with a few weeks left to play. Not a guy whose owed 18 mil with a 9 mil buyout for the next year with 2 games left. Again, it makes sense if they want him for next year, not for 1 starter this year.
  21. I was thinking something like that. Say the Red Sox do pick Z off the waiver wire, and the Cubs let them have him and his contract. Next thing you know, Epstein signs with the Cubs. Won't someone call shennanigans?
  22. Because Montanez isn't a kid and has little to no future with the organization? Not the point. They were basically giving all the vets the day off and letting the callups play, as well as Castro and Barney, so why not just give Pena the night off too?
  23. it's not the first time. Remember Lou Piniella to Tampa Bay? Hell there were rumors about Guillen being traded to the Marlins last season. I think Mike Stanton was the name rumored to go to Chicago. According to who, Joe Cowley or White Sox Interactive? That was last offseason. No GM in their right mind would trade a talent like Stanton or Morrison for 1 year of a manager, whose had a very up and down stint with his last team. They say anything the White Sox get will be relatively minor.
