  1. I bet Neely was pissed that we didn't give Juan Pierre an extension.
  2. His power will be wasted there. The little guy currently batting 2nd is doing just fine for now. The sad thing is though, Stewarts .685 OPS is good for 5th on the team as far as regulars go.
  3. The one case I could see them having interest is as a 3B plan B2. Just a guy to have available as a fallback from Stewart, who does have a history of injury. If we are rebuilding, it would be more worthwhile to give him a look than Baker who's gone after this year(unless they inexplicably re sign him) and DeWitt who the manager doesn't seem to like, mostly because he's not very good. If you're going to waste a roster spot, may as well be with a 25 year old with a modest upside. Does Bell play anything other than 3rd?
  4. He's intriguing because he's not that old (granted, 26 isn't young either), plays a position (2nd) where our starter is pedestrian (to say the least), and has had offensive success in the PCL and IL. It sure seems like some poor luck with batted balls has hurt him in his last 2 trial runs in the majors in the last 2 years (along with a surprising lack of pop). Considering that it is a rebuilding year, giving him a look at 2nd at some point (and perhaps as the number 2 hitter?) should definitely be considered if he keeps this up. It's not as if we have better options kicking down the door for the position. If the current big league team doesn't get on track in the next month or so, I understand not wanting to bring up Jackson, Rizzo, and Vitters but I wouldnt be surprised to see the likes of Valbuena, Cardenas, and Sappelt by June.
  5. So how close is Jay Jackson to the organizational tag?
  6. Very impressive. More importantly, any reason Rhee didn't start?
  7. I was trying to go as long as possible without mentioning it to avoid being accused of being over exctited about a AAAAer, but damn, Luis Valbuenas been a monster.
  8. I really wasn't expecting this team to be this much of a train wreck this early on. 100 losses might not be out of the question.
  9. You don't want to wish away a half-decade of your life like that. Somebody's never seen the major motion picture Click It had it's moments, certainly more so than the 2012 Cubs.
  10. Yeah, it looks like Reed Johnson will start today. Problem is, between Soriano, DeJesus, and Byrd, at least one of them will have to unless they go with Baker/DeWitt, Johnson, Mather across the OF.
  11. I know you are a fanboi, but there is no guarantee that Castro stays at SS. It's certainly way too early to think about moving him, but that day could come. Baez is currently a SS but it's possible he may move to 3B because of Castro. Junior Lake can play 2B even though he's got a cannon of a arm. Vitters appears to be staying at 3B but can play 1B. Marco Hernandez plays SS but can play 2B as well. Those are the options off the top of my head of prospects who can play 3B or 2B. I think Castro at SS will stay as long as the young guys develop. Perhaps either Cardenas and Valbuenas PCL number are legit. I'm not suggesting that they'll OPS in the 1.000s, but they could be decent. Does Logan Watkins project to be any thing more than Ryan Theriot II? He seems to have a touch more power. There's Hernandez, Amaya, and Alcantara, but anyone of them are likely further down the road.
  12. Actually the 2012 Cubs are making me look very accurate about my predictions for this year and it's interesting to see how many posters are starting agree about this year's team. I am optimistic about Rizzo & Brett coming up, but there's still a ton of holes to fill for this year and next. I don't think there are as many holes as you think. CF, SS, 2B, and C, are the hardest positions to fill and we seemingly have them held down long term. Yes, I'm beginning to believe that Barney is a legit starting 2B and can give us Theriots bat with competent defense. We have 1B and hopefully 3B between Stewart, Vitters, and Lake. The holes we need to fill are LF, which will quasi competently held down by Soriano until something else comes along, which will hopefully be soon, as well as a front end starter to go with Garza(let's face it, whatever Demp does the next few months, at 35 he'll only be able to do it for so much longer), and piece together a bullpen. DeJesus will hold down RF for now, but will also require a long term answer.
  13. Actually the 2012 Cubs are making me look very accurate about my predictions for this year and it's interesting to see how many posters are starting agree about this year's team. I am optimistic about Rizzo & Brett coming up, but there's still a ton of holes to fill for this year and next. You're the worst. I worked damn hard for that title and won't give it up without a fight. Castro to Peoria! Free Matt Tolbet!
  14. It's really more venting than irrationality too, and that's really one of the purposes of a message board, at least a game thread. Some just do it more than others and I doubt that Erik, Aramis Fan or whoever walk around grumbling about how awful the Cubs are all day any more than Fred walks around spouting out stats. When you watch a game at a bar or with friends, you hear the same talk if not worse when things aren't going your teams way. The difference is once something's been said it's said and not sitting on a message board waiting for the more "rational" fans to pick it apart well after the fact.
  15. I don't think I could dream up a more awful AAAA junk baller than Nate Robertson if I tried. My guess is that experiment will be over by lunch time today.
  16. hopefully he's not mentoring them on plate discipline. He'll mentor them on crashing into walls and edgy facial hair.
  17. FFS, doesn't Theo have some fat cousin Jorge can marry an become a citizen and then we can sign him.
  18. And why not let Lindsey Lohan and Bobby Brown mentor the youth of America while we're at it.
  19. Why Baker and not Mather? Because I completely forgot that Mather existed. Ty Wright can replace him for all I care.
  20. I don't know when we'll pull the plug on him. My gut tells me midseason of next year. I think that our best hope is to pick up the full remainder of his salary and hope for something like the Sosa return. If we're going to take that much of a bath, may as well get something in return. Someone would bite on that, right?
  21. I know PCL stats should be taken with a grain of salt, but how much less useful can Cardenas, Valbuena, and Campana be than DeWitt, Baker, and Johnson?
  22. It's sad when we're 11 games into the season and I'm following Cubs games in the same manner I do minor league games in which I'm more interested in the lines of select players than the final score itself. At east Dempster was spared the L. He could fetch a pretty penny if he can keep pitching like he has for another month or 2.
  23. Yeah, and Darwin Barney should never field another routine ground ball in a Cubs uniform. If not for the stupid Marlin grounding into a DP, I'm not sure Dolis would have thrown one effective strike all night. He really hasn't had much control or command in any of his appearances. Give someone else a shot. Sorry, but he has had less than ten innings in the majors. He's easily our best option to stick long-term. Let him have his growing pains and learn. Not to mention that he's one of two guys in our pen that will likely be around beyond 2013. Russell's likely the other.
