  1. David Eckstein is a championship player. Ryan Theriot.
  2. Seeing as there's no urgency, if I'm Theo/Jed I'm trying to trade LaHair for the best offer as we speak, then we bring up Rizzo. Otherwise, LaHair's sitting on the bench gradually losing any trade value he may have amassed.
  3. I hate the headline writer even more. Lots of things could've been said that would've actually been true. "Lapse costs Cubs" isn't one of them. Oh, and if you want to be pissed off at how stupid people are, read the comments on that article. Sullivan's just being Sullivan, but these comments by Sveum sound like a manager who's talking about benching him for more than a game or two. Even if it's just idle threats, it's not cool to publically ridicule your 22 year old budding superstar like that. Bone headed plays or not, we're at the point where there's little at stake, so there's no excuse to bench your most talented player. Consider it on the job training.
  4. Aside from the White Sox, when it comes to games with nothing at stake there's no team I hate losing to more than the Brewers. Let's not lose to the Brewers.
  5. After a hot start and then falling off a cliff, Michael Burgess has quietly stabalized at a respectable .269/.352/.441/.793 line. Nothing to get to excited about, but the Iowa Cubs roster has only 3 outfielders, 2 of which will likely be in Chicago by September and the 3rd is the very definition of organizational. Burgess is 23 and still has some glimmer of promise. Should he be sent to Iowa sooner than later?
  6. So i take it we shouldnt expect a ton of excitement tomorrow and beyond? I guess we can draft whoever we want, but getting them, to sign wthout the overslt money is another story.
  7. I don't think there's going to be any higher offers. I expect the Cubs to offer some crazybuckets amount of money that blows every other team out of the water, same as with Concepcion. I agree, mostly but going back to the winter pretty much every free agent was taken by someone that came out of nowhere to yank them off of someone elses plate. But yeah, that's exactly what we need to do. We need this guy, and even if we offer something crazy like 7/35 and he's a total bust it's not something that will really hurt us financially.
  8. He's in parentheses. What more do you want? But I totally believe we have a deal in place. Based on what? Many teams could be under the impression they have a deal with him, illegal, but possible. Hope the Cubs get him, but any talk of a secret deal already being done is all hypothetical speculation for now. Media reports, rumors from semi-reliable message board sources, and the Cubs' pattern of behavior in the last year. Even if a deal was in place, seeing as it was of the illegal variety theres nothing to stop Pavner from accepting a higher offer. I believe that the offer was 27 mil, which may not have been an official offer but rather a number put out there by Theo as an attempt to peacock away some of the suitors who would not have expected or been willing to invest that kind of money in such an unproven commodity, thus making a lot of them second guess their persuit.
  9. Please be a blister. All I could find through a Twitter search is that he walked off the field with the trainer prior to the 3rd inning. I'll assume it means he took a few warm up tosses before being pulled. Don't like.
  10. It's not his first brain cramp. It really won't hurt anything to bench him for a game in a meaningless season to make sure he doesn't forget how many outs there are in the future. He sounded as though he meant more than one game. Could just be the media fanning the flames though.
  11. Sure Dale, how's about you try to run the most talented player that this organization has produced since the 1950's out of town and see how it works out for you.
  12. Michael Bourn is really good If a guy ends up becoming another Micael Bourn, that's fine, but if we're talking the ceiling for a 5 tool top 10 pick, shouldn't we be aiming a touch higher? Say Shane Victorino, Austin Jackson or even vintage Grady Sizemore?
  13. Jackson + actual hit tool + better defense - a little power. Szczur + actually good at baseball Is that you Keith Law?
  14. Try not to [expletive] in me too hard for asking this, but what seperates Almora from Jackson and Szczur, other than age?
  15. If the Cardinals or Brewers get Appel, I'm going to the nearest pet store to start hurling kittens at the wall.
  16. If Appels te best in te board, we have to take him. We still have 2 comp picks, and if ER can't sign him we get an extra next year.
  17. I think I migh just like the reliever version of Casey Coleman.
  18. Kind of an ugly line for Shark, at least be his standards, though he managed to keep us in the game. Could be luck, could be the mark of a good pitcher.
  19. I definitely like him better than the other veteran relievers we've stocked the Iowa pen with.
  20. We've known for a while that the Yankees want Garza. Now we know that they really want him. Perhaps we should hold out for a pretty please, maybe even with sugar in top. With the stock of B & B each on the decline, the Yankees really don't have much that I'd really want. However, with two of baseball's top front offices on the case, they stand a good chance of working something out, perhaps a 3 way deal of some sort.
  21. He's just some purple shirt wearing dude that likes Starbucks. Ohhhh, I thought it was a Cosby Show reference. Now the connection is clear.
  22. Draftsmas Eve is upon us. Hopefully Theo Claus brings us good tidings of comfort and joy and not a stocking full of Hayden Simpson.
  23. 7 IP 3 H 1 ER 2 BB 7 K L. Such is the life of a 2012 Chicago Cubs starting pitcher.
  24. As long as that's what he wants to keep doing, I'm perfectly fine with him doing WTF he wants.
