  1. The thing is, I'd have to assume that other teams in on him have this same thought, Yankees and Dodgers have both been known to throw money around.
  2. What, no Haren? We'd probably have to toss in Tony Campana and Blake DeWitt to make that happen.
  3. Perhaps our current Left Fielder could end up on a other team in the not too distant future and nobody wants to see a combination of Johnson/Campana/Mather composing 2/3 of our OF no matter how lost of a season it is. Any chance it's to see Sappelt in CF even though he's been pretty awful at the plate this year? That position is one of the biggest offensive black holes on the Cubs at the moment, so they could be looking to try anything as we know what we have in the current bunch. Sappelt's ceiling is a 4th outfielder, though a good one. I don't think they'd go out of the way to bring him up, especially since I can't see him being an upgrade over what he have now. My guess is by August first 1-3 of Baker, Johnson, and Mather will be gone and he'll take one of their places.
  4. Bring back Kevin Orrie !!! How do we know he hasn't just been lucky?
  5. For years, we've been trying to get more left handed, sign players who can catch the ball and those who play the game right. All along the answer was runs. With this new found knowledge, the curse ends this year!
  6. Never heard of Yasiel Balaguert or Kevin Encarnacion, but they seem interesting. Um, you started the thread when we signed Balaguert. I would marry this post if I could. I've started a lot of threads, and they're no easier for me to keep track of than all of our pre-A ball prospects.
  7. I hate to break out old timey show tunes, but I can't think of any other way to sum it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjNJq_wnjUw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

  10. I think you're dreaming. Theo will be lucky to get much of anything for Soriano. All it takes is for Soriano to fall out of his hot streak or hurt his knee more to make him untradable and then the Cubs will be stuck with the rest of his contract. That's just it though. Regardless of what happens, we'll be stuck with the rest of the contract, perhaps sans 5 million. The question is, if we have to pay it regardless, is it better spent on 2 more years of Soriano in which he'll be 37-38 years old or some very expensive lottery tickets, or if we're lucky something from some teams top 25-30 or another Ian Stewart/Chris Volstad type of ex-prospect whose team has given up on them but aren't ready to cut for nothing or even 2 of the 3 if we're really lucky.
  11. The guys you mentioned do have a bearing on the future, each of them being potential trade chips. The only guys whose performance has no consequences on the future are Hill, Baker, Johnson, Mather, and the pen, aside from Russell and Marmol.
  12. I came across this proposal on another message board and thought people might get a laugh out of it.
  13. That's a couple of guys in the media that clearly don't know the difference between signing Soler and Cespedes. I've seen a lot of fan Tweets with that type of thing. Some similar from Dodger fans too, but not from anyone from the media. If we sign him, I'm sure there will be a lot of fans thinking that they'll see him by September. If he does sign, I just can't wait until the same goofs are once again calling for Theo's head after 20 games because he hasn't instantly turned into Mike Trout.
  14. On the plus side, through 4 IP, Burke has 5 K and goose eggs make up the rest of his line.
  15. By the way, with the Padres win today, guess whos .678 losing % gives them a 5 game lead in the Fecal Legue.
  16. After today's game, if that's what we want to call it, Soriano's OPS is at .827.
  17. I was not aware that Jeff Baker had a tough guy reputation, so at least I learned something.
  18. We should have known that the decision to be punchless punchless would be a good one.
  19. Who the hell is Shane Lindsay? Apparently a hard throwing Aussie minor league journeyman of 8 years.
  20. It depends on what you mean by overreacting. I'm under no delusion that we'll get significant value for Soriano, but it is possible that somebody like Colletti might bump up their offer a bit (or even get interested period) in Soriano because of this 1.000 OPS since the start of May. To me, giving up 2-3 low level guys (i.e. "lottery tickets") and paying any salary at all would be overreacting. I think that we could get an expired prospect ala Ian Stewart as well as a lottery ticket, depending on who and how much they want him. Also depending on their needs we can toss in Johnson, Baker, or Camp. I'd almost bet that teams are starting to have internal discussions about him, but theres no need for them to show their hand as it's no secret that we're looking to move him and eat a ton of salary to do so.
  21. Not that it matters at this point, but holy [expletive] Soriano.
  22. The Twins only had one of the worst offenses in baseball when it was highlighted by Josh Willingham. Now that M&M are back, it's far better. That doesn't change the fact that it sucked to see Shark going all Volstad in that inning though.
  23. He may not hit em much, but when he does he sure hits them hard.
  24. When it comes to Fecal League show downs of this caliber, shouldn't the losing team be the ones celebrating the walk off loss?
