  1. So what are the odds that Anthony Rizzo is packing for Minnesota before lunch time?
  2. I'm not sure what a high ceiling Dave Roberts would be. Willie Wilson? Rajai Davis? I'd say that would be his absolute ceiling, but Joey Gathright is a more realistic scenerio. pfft. There's no way Campana leaps a car length-wise. Ha. Another gritty little white guy that comes to mind is Ryan Freel. He had some very good years with Cincinatti, although he was rather useless by the time we got him. He took a lot more walks than Tony though. I believe he might have been mental as well but I forget the specifics.
  3. DSL Cubs 2 played something called the DSL D-Backs/Reds. Now how does that work?
  4. Them when it comes to pitching. Us when it comes to hitting. I'd say both by a pretty wide margin.
  5. Lots of good pithing today on the farm, especially Peoria. Jensen was great. Cervenkas been very good since coming over. Never heard of Felix Pena until now, but great night for him too. Speaking of PTBNL from the Red Sox, what's the deal with the 1st baseman whose name eludes me we ended up with in the Theo trade? Mesa?

  7. I think I'm quite ready to stop giving a [expletive] about how much luck does or doesn't enter into it and give Cardenas some starts. well good thing you're not managing the cubs then. We're talking about a guy who was a legit prospect a lot more recently than Stewart. I have no problem with the acquisition of Stewart, especially considering what we have up, and I have no problem keeping him around, but at what point do we give Cardenas regular playing time? Castro won't be losing playing time to him, nor will Barney, though I woudlnt be opposed to him getting starts over Barney here and there. If not, send him to AAA and let Amezaga hang out at the end of the bench.

  9. Some guy who hit his 2nd and 3rd home runs of the season today. His .844 OPS is bested by but one of our players. There was some minor buzz when the Brewers signed him out of Japan in the Winter.
  10. Not that I'm losing sleep over the matter, but it's hard not to wonder what's up with Rickie Weeks.
  11. I'm confused. Aramis isn't on our team
  12. I love when things like that happen when I step away from GD for a few minutes.
  13. Koyie Hill did something right. If suggest taking him out now, because it likely won't happen again for quite some time.
  14. Which also makes him one of our best guys to build around. Funny how that works.
  15. Do the stats back that? I know there is a pretty small sample size. I hear people say that he is a great fielder all the time, but is that just because he is fast and hustles? Or is he really a good fielder? I know what you're saying. I mean that in the sense that he's gritty and gives it his all ala Reed Johnson, Sam Fuld , and various other small white guys that managers and casual fans love.
  16. The agent could leak something to the media to try to raise offers. Other than that, we probably won't hear much right now. I'm sure we'll be hearing reports from an executive from one team and various officials over the next few days.
  17. For the Yankees I'd probably want both B and B. Not sure what else they have. With the Red Sox, again, aside from Middlebrooks who we will not be getting, I don't know what they have to offer. I'd definitely like to work Daniel Bard into the deal, but not as the top piece. There's no urgency to move Garza. If we wait until the end of July, I could see virtually every contender in the mix. Even if Hamels and/or Greinke hit the block, they're FAs after this season as opposed to Garza who has another year, so he really should be the most attractive SP on the block, unless Seattle decides to shop Felix.
  18. Not sure if this statement is sincere or facetious, but I think it's true. This season wasn't supposed to be as lost as it has been this early on. Nobody can blame Epstein, Hoyer, or even Hendry for the way that the season has panned out thus far. The bullpen issues, the 12 game L streak, the lack of run support for beyond quality starts. As long as they get decent trade returns in the next 6 weeks or so and are willing to spend a bit of money, the 2013 team should be a contender in this division, and work it's way up from there in the next 2-3 years.
  19. Know I'm late, but I thought I was the only one feeling this way. I can't imagine being happy either with any non Blue Jays or Diamondbacks trade, but seriously someone young in their current rotations would have to be included along with a top 3 prospect and a 2nd top 10 guy. If the Cubs extend Garza before the deadline, doesn't that increase Dempster's value? That would take maybe the best available pitcher off the market (except Hamels if he becomes available). Who's available that's having a better season so far than Dempster? IMHO, theres a big difference between them. Garza, Hamels, Greinke (5-7 years each?), and Marcum, McCarthy and Sanchez (3-4 years each?) which will likely end up with should all have effects on each others prices. However, Dempster is going to be 36 next season, so he'll likely appeal to teams looking for a lesser commitmant in terms of years. Big Z and Peavy could also end up with a decent 3 year deal the way they've pitched so far and Z's lack of incidents and Peavy's lack of injury. So far.
  20. Like most of the DSL guys, aside from Malave and Acosta (and even with them, all I really know is we gave them more money than the rest) I know little to nothing about Jose Paulino, but his 0/10 BB/K in 4 IP yesterday makes me want to know more. Also, is there anywhere I can find updates on the Mesa guys? It's been a while. The main guy is in Peoria now, but there are still several guys down there I'd be interested in checking up on.
  21. I always thought the same, but: Wolf vs. Cubs: 4.05 ERA, 1.321 WHIP, 6-11 Wolf Career: 4.14 ERA 1.334 WHIP So he's pretty much spot on vs. the Cubs.
  22. As long as he's cheap, he's perfectly fine for what he is. I'd certainly take him over giving Reed Johnson or a similar player another 1.25 mil. He's a great fielder and set of legs, but what it comes down to is that unless he can work on getting the OBP higher, and more complete players like Jackson, Sappelt, Szczur, and maybe Ha and Andreoli coming up behind him in the not too distant future, he'll be on borrowed time and likely be kicked around the league for the next several years between AAA and the bigs.
  23. When I look at John Andreoli's stat line, I think Tony Campana or Sam Fuld. However, the guy's 6'1 215lbs, pretty damn big for a kid with no power.
  24. Loosen was cruising through 5.2 with 6 K and 1 BB before being pulled. Anyone know if it was a PC thing or injury or what?
