    Damn, Shark with 68 pitches through 6 full innings. He seems to be doing an awful lot of this type of thing. I know that the A word is one that shouldn't be used loosely for pitchers, but [expletive] if he isn't looking the part. And he downs Yonder Alonso on 3 pitches as I finish typing that last sentence.

    It was the part where he got mad and walked away in a huff when asked how the shoulder was that made the media decide to paint it that way. In any case, it was a silly thing for him to say, even if it was the media just stretching I to be more than it was. Especially coming from a guy who was still essentially a prospect himself.

    Additionally: Hawkins: racism related Bradley: racism related Jacque Jones: felt unfairly treated, might have been racism mixed in. Flames were fanned by close friend Tori Hunter. Baker: ran out of top shelf arms to wreck Silva: vocally upset that he lost his job to a more talented player(Cashner) and was strung along despite the fact that they know he would lose out. I think DeRosa, Prior, and Pierre each might have griped a bit after their respective stays.

    Havnt seen this yet, but it's somewhat moronic of a take on the situation in his part. First off, the reason for the trade was that Rizzo was the type of top shel prospect that the Cubs do desperately needed, and Cashner was what the Padres wanted in return, and it doesn't go any deeper than that Secondly, it was Theo's first offseason, pretty much everyone was a Hendry Guy at the time, aside from a handfull of low risk scrap keepers. I can assure him that there were a lot of guys that Theo would have preferred to give up instead, probably including Cashner's felllow "Hendry Guy," Jeff Samardzjia, and while at the time a lot of us would have jumped for joy had we traded Shark for a top 50 prospect, in hindsight, I don't think there are too many complaints that we kept Shark. This is the type of statement that maybe I'd expect from an upset fan, but from a professional player, one would expect him to know how it works. If you want a top prospect like Rizzo, he's going to cost something, and it's not like the Cubs were loaded with attractive trade chips.

    Is Austin Romine still considered that, or even an upgrade over Castillo? Maybe we could throw in Soto for that deal and them either trade Castillo or flip Romine. Maybe even Joba if the injury consternation and fact that he's an FA in 2014 aren't too much of a deterrence.

If there won't be any big names joining him, 2 more years of Dempster with what we have plus some bargain bin pick ups would be less useful than the pick(s) we'd get if we kept him, offered arb and he walked. Either way, even if he wins a Cy Young this season, that won't change the fact that he'll be 36 this time next season and we have a front office borrowing it's organizational philosophy from Logan's Run so it should be nice and team friendly.

    True, but there was already talk about every available free agent such as Fielder, Pujols, Darvish, and Wilson. We were going to be back on top baby.

    Nah. I'm pretty much viewing these guys like the farm teams. The end result is far less important to me than the individual performances of the relevant players. Agreed. It's why I have far more interest in this team than last years Cubs who I barely followed. Last years team only had 1-2 player worth following. By this time last year, I cared about 1 thing only: the offseason plans.

    I don't suppose the answer to the this question could be play the Padres at Wrigley and the wind howling out with Jeff Suppan on the mound for them for the next 114 games, could it?

    Eh, we've seen our share of good pitching. Today we should pretend it's not wind related and remember what a good offense feels like.

    Castro must have one of the lowest pitcher per at bat of all full time players by now.

    There's little doubt in my mind that Ole Jeff Suppan will pitch 7 shutout innings. Wood would once again be decent through 6, but not decent enough to make up for the lack of offense.

    Looking over some of the potential deadline sellers and the rent-a-player starting pitchers they can offer, there's Hamels, Greinke, Marcum, McCarthy, and Wandy. With this in mind, and knowing what we'll be doing could it be in our best interest to try to trade Dempster sooner than later?

    At least some of the other relevant Iowa prospects had decent days. Nice to see Marmol finding his grove. If love to see him back on time to build up some trade value. Judging by the options, I'd strongly suggest giving him his closer role back. Something about the evil you know being better than that which you don't. Or something.

    Theo made his objective perfectly clear: acquire good young players that can help us win now and in the future through trade and free agency. So far, he's down just that, althoug it hasn't yet paid off. So far, those he's acquired fitting that criteria are: Rizzo Stewart Wood Volstad Valbuena Cardenas Maholm Sonnesntine Sappelt Torryes Cates None of them have yet translated into big league wins, and aside from Rizzo even minor league wins, but these players deserve patience. I really don't get paying as much as he did for Johnson when he or someone similar could have been had at a much lesser price. Still, even the rest of the junk, like Mather, Camp, Corpas, Lopez, Amezaga, Tolbert, Rowand-Smith, and Robertson made some degree of sense at the minor league deals they signed. If we had managed to contend, having big league ready fill ins at spots where no real prospects were being blocked wouldnt have been a bad idea.

    Don't get me wrong, I like both the Rizzo and Marshall trades a lot but hidden talent didn't enter into either.

    The Royals will not be trading us Wil Myers for Matt Garza or anyone else we have not named Starlin Castro.
