  1. Corresponding move? Is it possible that Russell or Corpas injured themselves last night? Someone traded? Or Garza to the DL. That was my fear, but this was his most recent tweet 5 hours ago @Gdeuceswild: Not a great night, I'll be alright... I'm still a cubbie ... Just some cramping, crazy stuff... Getting ready for 5days from now. #gocubsgo To go from that to the DL in just a few hours, it would have to be something pretty drastic.
  2. I consider "interesting reclamation project" to be a step up from "placeholder," and I don't believe he warrants the former. If they were going to use a placeholder, I really wish they'd put a little more effort and/or resources into it and gotten one who actually was interesting and had some hope.

  4. Cramps. X-rays were negative And Russell's excuse?
  5. It's OK to reach for the stars as long as you grab and asteroid or two on the way down when you miss. For the last time, we are not dumping Reed Johnson on a team that calls to inquire about Castro. As someone who has added him to my ignore list, I encourage you to do so. If everyone ignores him, then nobody will be annoyed by him. He will be the tree falling in the woods with no one around to hear it. When I ignore somebody I ignore them. That's more the opposite of ignoring.
  6. It may be a bit optimistic, but it's at least not blind optimism with Theo doing the negotiating for us. And at this point, Dempster is probably far and away the best SP on the market (assuming Garza is out too long to be traded, Hamels really is extended, and teams have shied away from Greinke due to injury). That means if a GM like Ned Colletti gets desperate, the desperation move is made for Dempster. Or perhaps that was Theo's plan all along. The Boy Genious strikes! Theo: OK Matt, we're going to pull you in the third, and when you get to the dugout, as soon as you see the camera pointed in your direction, start to flex your wrist in an exaggerated manner."
  7. In case anyone had forgotten that Casey Coleman's bad, he gave us a nice little reminder this evening.
  8. Good to here. Now hurry up and trade Dempster before someone drops a house on his head too.

  10. Any chance that we could get a package starting with 1 of Parker/Gray/Cole/Milone and 1 of Peacock/Griffin/Ross for a package starting with Garza and Barney, and throw in Baker? (take a look at the slash lines of every infielder they've tried this year aside from Chris Carter before laughing too hard). Soto could also be involved.
  11. Why are you thinking there won't be another Paul Maholm on the market this winter? We could probably use 2 Paul Maholms on next year's team. More Paul Maholms means less Doug Davis', Rodrigo Lopezes, Justin Germanos, Casey Colemans, and other miscellaneous junk ballers. Ah, but less room for fliers. You must be flummoxed. There's room for fliers, as long as their for guys like Scott Kazmir and not Dave Bush.
  12. If this were in fact the case, the talks would not have gotten to the point where we had a guy ready to start for Dempster at a moments notice and another scratched from his AAA start just in case the 1st guy didn't make it on time. Sounds like last minute jockeying for leverage. I'm checking Twitter and F5ng MLBTR as much as anyone, but aside from injury, I can't imagine his value dropping much between now and the trade deadline, which is like a week and a half away. Jocky away boys.
  13. FFS Demp, just bunk with Lilly for a few months and we'll give you an extension in time for the Holidays. did you just completely ignore the part where brett says "I have not heard this"? No, but I also didn't ignore the part where that doesn't mean it was never said.

  16. Again, when evaluating a "change of scenery" trade, it's hard to hold the GMs responsible for the results. One trade you could compare it to was the 2005 trade which sent Jason DuBois to Cleveland for Jody Gerut. While neither were ever as highly touted as Stewart or to a lesser extent, Colvin, they were fairly well regarded in their respective organizations. However, their organizations were at the time ready to give up on them, and decided to match up on the two, who were still young enough that they were worth a shot. Neither one became much of anything. Gerut stayed with us for about a month and was promptly traded for Matt Lawton, who stayed around for another month, and I believe he became Justin Berg.
  17. Lol how? by not completing a dempster deal when he was arguably at the peak of his trade value by not selling a stock at its apparent market high Yup, that 1 shaky start inning from a guy who's been a beyond consistent front end starter for the past 4.5 years sure doomed our future. We'll be lucky to get James Loney and a 28 year old AA loogy now. Too bad he didn't throw a no hitter. Then they'd be throwing Clayton Kershaw at us.
  18. Our farm system does not possess starting pitching. Not anywhere near the upper levels anyway.
  19. Don't look now, but the A's are over .500 and 1 game back in the Wild Card. Do we have anything they could use? Offensively, they could use pretty much everything other than outfielders. Soto? Marmol? Soriano ???
  20. So he looks like an Umpa lumpa now? That would be more of a burnt sienna collision. Oh they were kinda orange weren't they. They certainly didn't have the chisseled physique and bedroom eyes of Taiwan Easterling.
  21. I like to think that we've been up against baseball's top closers for the past month.
  22. All things considered, not a bad start from Dempster. The shaky 1st inning should come as no surprise, considering the fact that as of an hour before the game, he didn't know what team he'd be on by then.
  23. Sounds like Dempster's the starter at this time, but if a deal is completed, be it before the game or middle of the game Demp will be pulled with Germano ready to take over at a moments notice.
  24. This is starting to feel very much like Garza to the Tigers/Rangers/Blue Jays/Tigers. Still, at this point other than alleviating fan angst there's little benefit to rushing the matter just yet if the right offer isn't on the table. Dempster's been consistent enough since becoming a full time starter that even if he has a rough start, it's not going to have much of an effect on the return. Only an injury would have a major impact on that.
